I love PDH! It offers a far more level playing field, the lows and the highs are not as extreme as that of EDH, it's less sudden and less swingy. Put another way: it is truly a multiplayer experience, rarely is a game decided by the actions of a single player but rather of the group as a whole, interacting with eachother. Just letting you know, it's WAY easier of a format to show new players also, interaction do not give a headache and common are just simpler to explain, I've shown way more people MTG with this format that any other.

The low cost of entry is one of the best things about the format! You can easily build a deck for like 30 bucks and even cheaper when you do the fabled "Floor Meta" Pals style Pick up a random stack of cards and throw them together. BAM

Absolutely love this format! It recently got lots of love, especially in New Capenna (actually useful 3c commanders), and I'm really looking forward to how it will evolve. It seems to be a healthier alternative to regular EDH, where the difference between power levels is overwhelming.

My Grumgully PDH deck is my favorite deck I've ever built. The process of building a pdh deck is amazing, as there are seemingly endless viable options to fit your theme! With every new set, my attention is always on what new commons could be amazing in pauper. Awesome to see you doing a vid on this Prof, have been playing Minthara in PDH for a while now and really enjoy the deckbuilding restriction, really stops me from going into the endless, 'this should run [staple]'. Plus if the commander is powerful enough, you can even hang with regular EDH (if you chose an uncommon legend that is). Hope your video inspires others to try it out as well. I found the experience very freeing, tho I do miss my uncommon removal.

Pauper commander is really fun. I like the challenge of having to dig a little deeper for the common gems, rather than just taking the popular rares like in EDH. And it seems less likely that any one card will completely alter the game.

A lot of people are either intimidated by the large number of uncommons or are just trying to make PDH more similar to EDH because it's what they're familiar with. The differences are what really helps PDH stand apart as a separate format worth playing, though!

I was just talking to a friend about whether or not you were going to cover this format. It's a ton of fun and SUPER interactive. I also once heard it described as "the format where you can play your favorite draft or limited deck as a commander deck". Because so many signpost cards in draft are uncommon and commons often make up the bulk of a draft or limited deck, you can easily turn them into a PDH deck! Thanks for showcasing all these variants for commander! I recently watched the "Pre-edh" Shuffle Up and Play and built a deck for that variant and had a TON of fun digging in Scryfall to figure out what I could use.

I've been playing pauper commander for years! Happy to see it get some love. My Drove of Elves PDH deck is one of the best constructed and most fun decks i've ever made. I will say it doesn't always make games shorter than regular EDH though. The lack of board wipes means complicated board states and standoffs can happen more often.

@@wademiller2376 Izzet Guildmage is even good in competitive cEDH, as it is a combo piece. Mayhem Devil is also nuts as a commander, you can just fill your deck up with “each player sacrifices a creature” effects, and all of a sudden you’re casting a free Pyrokinesis every turn.

It's the best way to learn! Common powerlevel means no insanely complicated rares, Uncommon unique commander gives it some more life, and seeing how all the commons interact with each other is a constant blast

Risen Reef's challenge is having trouble ending the game. Be sure to pack stuff like Spectral Hunt-Caller, Strength in Numbers, and You Meet in a Tavern to help finish people off!

As mostly a Johnny player, this is easily my favorite format to build for. I already have decks for almost every legal color combination (no great wedge options yet 😑), and it makes spoiler season that much more engaging. On top of that it's the perfect format for introducing new players to magic, as it gets them playing a variant of the most popular format in a cheap ecosystem, plus you can almost always just give the new player the deck to keep without a second thought. With all the money you'll save with the format, be sure to pick up one of my Command Clickers when sales start later this year!

I’ve played a bit of PDH and already love it, glad to see you give it some coverage! A friend I play commander with introduced me to the format last summer and I built an Abdel Adrian/Candlekeep Sage blink deck that built awesome value. I immediately started brewing more decks and built four more for about the price of the sleeves I got for them, but I have limited chances to play. My Gut, True Soul Zealot/Inspiring Leader deck hasn’t even gotten a real test yet. If enough people get into the format, it makes a great secondary thing for a commander night. Pauper EDH feels to me like an idealized version of the kitchen table Magic I played as a kid, and it’s a good time.

I made a Zada, Hedron Grinder pdh deck a few years back when the group wanted to try a new approach to our usual games. It was pretty OP.

This is quickly becoming my favorite format! My friends and I love to impose deckbuilding restrictions on ourselves and I personally love the idea of taking a creature that was never meant to lead and giving it all the support I can muster. I'm currently building a Murasa Rootgrazer Landfall deck, my wife will have an Ethersworn Sphinx Affinity deck and my friend is going for a Ruthless Deathfang Sac deck. I also really like the idea of an Azra Oddsmaker Madness/Burn deck but brewing in this format is SO FUN that I just don't know what build first 😂
