Check out the DALI Rotary Dimmer from Zen Control as a mini stand alone system to contol stand alone lighting setups. It should be possible to also intergrate a DALI system into other automation system like Home Assistant.
Also see an Installation of a single room stand alone dimmer with some Unios Downlights fitted with Tridonic one4all 10w Constant Current Drivers which are DALI compatible.

Sir how much watt we have to control from this rotry dimmer

hi Jimmy, interesting. Would be good to see how this would integrate with Home Assistant - cheers! What is the technology if not "cut phase"?

Yes it would be, it is currently my main project at the moment, trying to figure out how to get them to work together, without too much cost. Dali devices send a digital signal that tells the driver how much power to put out, in this case it is a constant current driver so the current and voltage are reduced on the DC side as opposed to phase cut which cuts the AC side. So there is no flicker ever, mind you it does cost a little more.

Hi Jimmy. This is pretty cool. Would the DALI system be able to control with 0-10V dimmable commercial lights?

Yeah there are converters from Dali to 0-10 volts but you lose features that a Dali driver has if your just sending a 0-10v signal to a light fitting

I noticed you had to turn the rotary encoder a lot to make a impact on the dimming. Can this be adjusted? Also when you turn the rotary encoder quicker does it dim quicker? Or is it just looking at the direction of the dimming?

Yes your right, you have to turn the dimmer alot I believe that each increment is only 1 step so 85 - 255 in my case. Having used it for a week it's not something that I have found annoying at all. As a stand alone you can't change it. And turning the encoder faster doesn't increase the dim rate.

Jimmy James ah that’s a real shame. The benefit of traditional rotary dimmers is that you have direct control of speed of the dimming. This is something the misses keeps getting annoyed about after replacing the Clipsal rotary dimmers with zwave push button dimmers. She wants the rotary control back. But I haven’t found anything so far that can do it (not for Australian wall plates / standards anyway). I have tried Zigbee rotary dimmers which don’t connect to the circuit, just control the zwave dimmers via Home Assistant, but all these rotary devices do is tell home assistant which direction you are turning then knob. It’s like essentially having two buttons just in a knob. If you come across anything that has true rotary dimming but also integrates with HA, please share. Thanks for sharing.

You have it exactly right there is nothing quite like a rotary dimmer, I've installed quite a few push button smart dimmers and everyone want to know if they can get a rotary control for it. I went and tried the dimmer again just know to work out why I haven't found turning the dimmer alot annoying, and if you turn it slower it dims faster, so it actually works just like a normal old analog dimmer, turning less than 1 rotation will take it from lowest to highest if you turn it at normal speed, which is interesting.
