Can’t believe I finally found it. That scene of the kids going into the mountain and the young boy screaming to be let in. That had such a huge impact on me as a child. Thank you so much for uploading, didn’t think I’d ever see this again

Van's earnest and righteous affect served him well here and in the Caine Muitiny. His portrayal of the Piper shows he really could act.

True, same goes for Claude Rains as the mayor. His physical appearance, the facial expressions he can make and his way of speaking makes him fit perfectly as the mayor of Hamelin.

I loved this movie when I was young so much so that I looked for it for months, but sadly I kept thinking Danny Kaye was the Pied Piper which made it almost impossible to find but I finally found it, yay. I was so happy to find it I actually joined Yahoo Premium so I could download it legally. I am officially a happy camper.

I was about 2-3 years old and never forgot the impact it had on me. My beloved brother suffered from Cerebral Palsy...,this just cut me to the core...all emotion no literary context at that age.

This was produced for television I believe, but also received a theatrical release. It is lit for televised broadcast. Amusing to see Claude Rains AND Doodles Weaver playing together side-by-side! Quite a juxtaposition! (Weaver hosted a children's program, I think, around the same time as this film was made, which maybe helps explain why he was cast in this children's story.)

I got to see Van Johnson for " That's Entertainment Live". I do love violence and smut, but I enjoy Van and all better. I saw Lori Nelson, too. I once saw Ben, but that's a rat of another story.

I read that this was the first TV movie ever made. In 1957, NBC produced this for Thanksgiving. Now for the Holidays, Hollywood produces Santa, Inc, with elves that use the F word. I weep for my nation.

All the tunes are supposedly based on pieces by Edvard Grieg, and most are recognizable, except 'Prestige,' the one sung by Claude Rains and the councilmen. Does anybody know what that song is based on? The IMDB page lists it as based on a piano piece, but there is no way it can be the one listed there. It's nothing like the 'Prestige' song here, not even close.

It was very popular in this time period to have a general ditty of that nature. In "The Court Jester" there is a number called "Outfox the Fox" that follows the same basic pattern.
