There's one hole in your theory: Lapras states that he came to wigglytuff because he couldn't watch end not help the wounded chatot. Lapras is always waiting at Brine Cave, waiting for someone to use the fragment. But it doesn't mean that Lapras only comes out when you use the fragment. He has a mind of his own after all.

Actually, from what I've read, there are many Pokemon fans that like this series. They say that it has the best soundtracks, stories of the franchise, and enjoy the gameplay.

The ending of Sky made me tear up. It is by far my favorite Pokémon game. Even when I spawned in those monster houses and died to a bs crit. It was nice relive the storyline. Thank you.

I find it more likely that Bidoof's wish caused the Relic Fragment to be found by the partner. Because we know for a fact that the wish was the reason that the player and partner joined the guild. That way Bidoof would be the true savior of the story. And the only way Wigglytuff would have known about the partner needing the fragment was if he traveled trough time himself, which is never hinted at in the game.

Explorers of Sky truly was and is the masterpiece of the phenomenal sub-franchise that is Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. Also, my thoughts about this game's deeper plot are almost identical to your theory. I've always believed in this string of ideas so firmly that I practically view it as assumed canon.

I don't think you're doing Pokemon justice by suggesting that the story writers wasted their time on the series. Pokemon may have predictable story lines, but Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2 was exactly what the franchise needed to keep it fresh, and the trio of games added a new element to Pokemon as a whole.

Here's a thought: What if Wigglytuff is Darkrai, but reformed? What if, like you, Darkrai got transformed into a different species, and then ended up as a genius child, who "saw the light" in that being nice to people is better than hurting them? What if the reason Wigglytuff knows Lapras is because he is really Darkrai? Am I the only one who thought this?

so many mistakes in the storyline you told: 1st: Dusknior knows that Dialga is crazy. He just don't want to disappear together with the future since he wouldn't just die but completely cease to ever exist so he wouldn't ever have lived. In the future he finally realized thanks to Grovile telling him that it is right to save the past since saving the past would show that he existed even if nobody would remember him. 2nd: your character never sees Grovile in his dreams. They are cutscenes that shows what happens while you are sleeping at that time. The main character never saw Crovile before seeing his wanted letter in the guild since he doesn't remember the face of Grovile at all (He would at least react with: Oh I've seen him in my dreams) 3rd: you forgot the dimensional screams that are the only hints he gets about Grovile and the main character's search for the time gears (but never sees Grovile or the human self in the dimensional scream) 4th: The reveal that Grovile's partner is a human (and his name revealing that it is actually you) happens after meeting Celibi as Dusknior and Dialga tries to stop you from getting back to the present. 5th: Temporal Tower is not hidden between worlds. It's still within this world but can't be reached since he hid the place in between a split second and thus is unreachable if you don't have the relic fragment 6th: The distortion after saving time isn't in time but only in space. 7th: The disquised Darkrai saysthat the time travel you made causes a disturbance in space since the balance between time and space is now disturbed because of your existance because of the time travel. It's not a crack in time but a crack in the balance between time and space that causes the disturbance (or at least it's what Darkrai tells you because in truth he causes the distortion in space. You and your partner cause a distortion too that is true but it is just minor and Palkia could handle that easily like you said) 8th: He didn't drove Dialga insane but messed with the temporal tower (which Dialga uses to manage time) so time would be disturbed what is also the reason why you need the time gears because they would repair the tower.

I grew up with this game and I loved it to bits, played it out at least 12 times and played every other of the mystery dungeon games. (we do not talk about super mystery dungeon, it doesn't exist.) Up until this day, I still say it is the absolute best game I have ever played.

Wait... Dunno if you've already considered this possibility but: Darkrai jumped back in time when cornered and Polkia destroyed it- isn't it possible that the destruction of the portal disturbed it and caused Darkrai to fly out (in he same way as we did at the beginning of the game) and transform into a different Pokemon. (He could've turned into a human, but the only human of note in the series is you- and it wouldn't make sense that you were Darkrai as surely you'd be a Darkrai when you "returned" to your Pokemon form at the start of the game in what would be the second time this happens). But then he could be a different Pokemon. One who saw his wrongs and wants to make the most of his second chance by helping others as much as he can. One who is hiding a secret past and concealing his true intelligence and knowledge. I think Darkrai IS Wigglytuff.

If you like good stories in games I'd recommend the Zero Escape games the first one is 999 the second is Virtue's Last Reward and the third is Zero Time Dilemma.

I know I'm 4 years late but amazing video. Theres only one thing I would add that really develops Dusknoir's character even more. That is to say, Dusknoir is not loyal to Primal Dialga but instead they have mutual interest. You learn at temporal tower that if you change the future that you will all dissappear. Dusknoir uses this as a guilt trip because it is the sole reason why he wants to stop you; not because he is malicious or evil but because he wants to keep surviving. Having Dialga as an ally would surely guarantee this motive, right? However, during the special episode and traveling beside Grovyle and learning more about him and his dream to save the world. Dusknoir realizes that SURVIVING is not the same as LIVING and therefore helps Grovyle and Celebi defeat Primal Dialga in the future and in a beautiful twist is rewarded for his heroic actions and can now go on living in a beautiful world that is now the future. 😢

I know this video is getting old as hell, but saying that the writers "wasted their effort" writing a good story for a Pokémon game instead of a "real" piece of media like a film or a Zelda game is probably one of the most reductive things I've heard in a long while

There's actually a plot hole. When your character uses the dimensional scream on the crystal, the crystal was never there to experience the theft of the time gear. So... How did the crystal dimensional time scream to view that space during the theft if it was taken and held by Bidoof?

I'm pretty sure Wigglytuff always knew Team Skull were evil. It is implied several times when he says "When a friend asks that I have to wonder why?" and when he throws the perfect apple in front of Team Skull just before they knock you out at the Groudon statue. Then he acts all dumb and tells you and your partner to go on ahead then he tells Team Skull to stay because he "Didn't want to bother them" but I'm pretty sure he was just helping you and your partner out by sending you on ahead and keeping Team Skull where they are. Then Skuntank stares Wigglytuff down and then he figures it out when he cried "BAH! This guy is TOUGH! REALLY TOUGH!" Then Wigglytuff just destroys them. Absolutely genius, it would be good if Wigglytuff explained this to you and your partner because it was only when I replayed it as a teen that I recognised this.

BUT THAT'S JUST A THEORY A POKÉ THEORY but in all seriousness this was incredible! seeing my first pokémon game theorised was absolutely amazing. i love this game more than any main series game honestly. thank you for covering it :D

The Primal Dialga fight music has been my ring tone for 6 or 7 years, when it started to play in your video I thought I was getting a call

I'm absolutely in love with these games, story and all. Both red rescue and explorers of time were some of my first games ever, and also both in my top ten games.

Pretty interesting theory. Mystery Dungeon is very... Mysterious. Unsurprisingly. If you get the chance, here's a couple of mysteries I'd like to ask you to figure out: 1)Time Gears. They're crucial to the plot, and kind of unknown elements in many ways. We know they came from Temporal Tower, and basing off the fact that when they are replaced, the surface they were placed into becomes smooth, with no hint that they were Time Gears inserted into the surface, I would infer that Darkrai cut the Gears out, or something similar to that, from the surface. Now, based off your partner's reactions, the Gears have been hanging out in the world for long enough that it's almost as if they've been there forever, it's surprising that they don't exist. So, here's my question: how long have those Gears been at their resting places outside of the Temporal Tower? Why didn't Dialga recover the Gears himself? I don't know how much of interest there is to find here, but if you can find some satisfactory explanation for this seeming possible plot hole that makes it not a plot hole, that'd be amazing. 2)This is a little out there, so stick with me a second. Based off evidence in this video (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PjnPyGFYKrI.html), humans are Pokemon. The evidence is pretty solid, so moving forward with that, why is it then that, in the PMD games, Pokemon can talk to each other no problem at all, no matter what they are, but in more standard Pokemon games, where you are a trainer who captures Pokemon, you can't understand your Pokemon at all. NEW QUESTIONS: 3)Time Gears... Again... There is a lot to figure out about them. I replayed Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky, and I realized, based off the way that Lapras reacts, the Time Gears seem like they were SUPPOSED to be where they were. So what are the Time Gears? Magic repair kit for Temporal Tower? Also, it seems to be one-time use if it is a repair kit, so maybe it would keep Temporal Tower protected forever. I mean, if it wouldn't keep TT (Temporal Tower) safe, then why doesn't Darkrai just destabilize it again? Seems like that would be an easy win. Or not, who knows? Maybe Darkrai's first attempt to destabilize TT was in place for millennia or tens of millennia, and he was out of patience to try it again. I don't know. This game is complex and confusing... 4)That brings up another question that we don't have a good answer to: is this Lapras unique? The only one that can act as the transporter to the Hidden Land? Or is he part of line of Laprases (Lapri?) that are the transporters to the Hidden Land? If he's unique, does he have an expiration date? If he does, that seems like a pretty stupid way for things to work, as it would cut off the Hidden Land forever without Dialga's intervention, so I would assume Lapras is either part of a line of transporters, or is unique, and won't die of age. 5)So, your character is the one that was attacked by Darkrai and affected by his attack, causing you to get amnesia, turn into a Pokemon, and teleport to the beach, while Grovyle teleports somewhere near Treeshroud Forest. But when you go back to the future via Dusknoir's abducting you, and then return to the past with Celebi's help, landing you, the partner, and Grovyle on the beach. Wait a second, though, why did you all get sent to the beach? You never told Celebi to send you, as far as we know, and based off the fact that you were attacked by Darkrai and Grovyle ends up in Treeshroud Forest, Treeshroud Forest should be the true destination - why wouldn't Celebi send you there again? I guess maybe Celebi's time travel/teleportation sends you to a random/semi-random location in the time you want to go to, but the odds of you ending up at the beach randomly the first time, then showing up there the second time, again randomly, is unlikely. I guess Occam's Razor would tell us that the solution is probably that our characters requested to be sent there off screen or during the dungeon when characters don't usually have dialogue. But why would Grovyle ask to go there? He doesn't have a good reason to, and in fact, he believes that the Pokemon of Treasure Town won't trust him, and will still fight against him, so Grovyle would probably want to be as far away from there as possible, and the exact mechanism of the time travel wasn't explained to our characters, so they wouldn't have reason to specifically request they be sent there, they wouldn't know that they could. C1)This one is actually a comment, denoted by the "C" notation absent in the previous questions. Dusknoir did/does understand that Primal Dialga is trying to prevent the changing of history, that Primal Dialga is trying to maintain the history that causes the planet's paralysis. He is loyal to Dialga, but more than that, he is motivated by fear of the dreamless sleep that would be the non-existence caused by the changing of history. He decides to help Grovyle because of his sharing of his ideology that a life as hollow as their lives in the future, barely scraping by, living in despair, isn't worth living, and that he'd rather give himself for the betterment of the world, to escape that vicious life so that others might not have lives so vile and fraught with hatred and fear. He convinces Dusknoir that his life is well spent, regardless of being cut short, if he can cause such a great, beneficial change for the world. I'm still interested in seeing something about Wigglytuff, of course, but these are just some other weird things that would be cool to get an answer to.

Its 2020 and i still come back to explorers of sky to play it again. One of the most masterfully written stories I’ve ever played through.

I liked purely because of how you explained the game, I could never have said it better myself. Every aspect of this game is amazing.

Dusknoir knows Dialga is insane. He's fighting for self-preservation, not out of any loyalty. What he chooses to do is legitimately evil and self serving, which is why I think his redemption works so well.

It's also highly implied that that Darkrai is the same Darkrai from the pokemon movie staring him. In the flashback of how the girl found him, Darkrai seemed scared and like it didn't even know about it's own powers and didn't know how to control them, getting upset that his powers caused pokemon to hate and attack him. When Darkrai tried to run away through time and Palkia stopped him, he did say that they didn't know where Darkrai was headed, but that he would very likely lose his memory. Things get scary though when the movie implies that Darkrai regained his memory at the end of the movie and cuts off, as you don't know how Darkrai reacted or what he did next. He might have returned to his evil ways and tried to wreck havoc on the world again, or he might have valued being a hero too much and forsook his evil ways.

this game made me cry more than once, and i can't say that for most movies and games i've consumed these days.

I love this game because: - Pokemons can actually talk and don’t repeat saying what species they are - They are shown to be capable of building society much like how humans do - IVs aren’t a thing and you don’t need to worry about it - All Stats can be maxed out - Some moves work differently and (such as Mirror Move)

I like the theory, but there is one huge problem with it. You say that when Wigglytuff first met Lapras it was when he used the Relic Fragment to summon it to help Chatot. Disregarding the facts that if it happened just like when they went back with the hero and partner that Wigglytuff wouldn't have been near enough to activate the wall markings, and the unlikely situation where he somehow knows exactly what the thing does and how to use it, what on earth would make him think to do that? Wigglytuff was apparently panicking as he says to the other Guildmembers, but even if that was a lie, he could have easily carried Chatot back to town, there was no need to summon Lapras in the first place. I was always under the impression that the beam of light is the actual key to unlocking the gateway to the Hidden Land, and going back to that part in the game where Lapras meets the Hero and Partner I see it's stated as a signal to gaining entry. However, it takes Lapras no time at all to show up which means Lapras must have been nearby already, so that beam probably doesn't necessarily summon Lapras, but rather serves as an alert that there are those who wish to go to the Hidden Land that have been proven worthy of access. I believe the Relic Fragment is what chose the partner, it's the only way Dialga could be sure it wouldn't fall into the wrong hands without picking someone himself. It's really not that hard to believe, considering it reacts with the cave markings without actually touching it, and when placed in the tower of the Rainbow Stoneship it causes the stoneship to levitate and shoot rainbows from behind. Those key facts prove it has some otherworldly, or rather, otherdmensionally powers. Since the Hidden Land is hidden within a gap in time, that probably means it exists within a sort of pocket dimension, and my theory is that in order to gain access to another dimension, you need an object from that dimension to open the gate.

I love how perceptive and intelligent Wigglytuff is. In many cases, like how you were accused for doing things, he just glares at you, and says, "let's move on." Like if he can see through your character. He's shown amazing leadership skills, and great vocabulary and maturity. Wigglytuff, for the longest time, has been my favorite Pokémon related character of all time.

I remember this being the first Pokemon game I owned. I got it because I couldn't read at that time and I just picked this game and asked my parents to buy it. When I got home I was surprised to see that this was a different Pokemon game but never the less, I actually enjoyed it and played it for awhile. Time passes and I don't know what happened to this game until I find my Ds again so I decided to try and play this game once again. I picked up where I last left off not remembering what happened before, but I instantly loved this game again so I kept playing it and went through with the story.Anyways for reminding me of this wonderful game and my childhood.

When I first watched this video, I didn't play the game yet so I was spoiled BUT even with spoilers I found the story amazing and the (main-story) finale heart-breaking and I cried. The game is so good, not even spoilers can ruin it !

Lapras appeared before Wigglytuff at Brine Cave because he was afraid he might piece together the secret of the Relic Fragment. Chatot had been mortally wounded by Kabutops, so Lapras (somehow) saved Chatot in exchange for he and Wigglytuff promising not to investigate the pattern. Lapras allowed the Guild to later explore Brine Cave as he and Wigglytuff both accepted that it would be foolish to keep to that promise anymore, as the destruction of the world was fast-coming. I think the reason Wigglytuff was able to speak again with Lapras was because of the unique circumstances set in place by their history and by Wigglytuff's promise. Wigglytuff, in my opinion, is an exception to the rules. I don't think he ever had anything to do with the Relic Fragment itself before returning to Brine Cave years later. I always liked to imagine that Dialga himself, before Darkrai even set his sights on Temporal Tower, removed the Relic Fragment from the Rainbow Stoneship and sent it somewhere outside the Hidden Land as a contingency. Perhaps he hoped that if something were to go wrong someone may find the Relic Fragment, trace it back to the Hidden Land with the Time Gears in hand and save him. Kind of conflicts with the Relic Fragment _choosing_ the partner, and its not very realistic, but its still an interesting thought to me. Christ, I love this game so much.

I kinda have a minor theory about the PMD series. It’s probably wrong, but I might as well put it here. Gengar from the first game, Darkrai from the second, the Everfrost from the 3rd, Dark Matter from the 4th, they’re all the same person. Now, I haven’t gotten to the part of the remake where Gengar is revealed to be the evil human that grabbed Ninetails’ tail (it got spoiled for me so I know that happened), but I do know what happens in every other game. Darkrai goes into the portal through time, it gets shattered, and he gets reincarnated as an embodiment of cold despair and hatred, the Everfrost. After the Everfrost is defeated, it is shattered, but it melts down, and reforms into an amorphous blob of negative emotion, Dark Matter, even stronger than before. Now, you’re probably wondering how we then don’t see any consistent characters. Simple, every mystery dungeon game takes place on a different island/archipelago, and they’re years apart. There’s probably a lot of holes in this theory, but I’m not really intimate enough with the series to recognize them, so... yeah.

HOLD IT! +The Theorizer , you say that Wigglytuff already possessed the Relic Fragment, and but you did not specify how he acquired the fragment. Its only use is to make the platform fly, so it should have been intact to it. And yet, that piece of stone is far from there. This brings up two questions: A) How was it removed from the platform, or who did so. B) How was it found by the partner. Which brings up a flaw to your theory. Only a Pokemon from within that island could have gotten the fragment, or Darkrai. So, that completely erases Wigglytuff from the list, as he could have not summoned Lapras in the first place to get there. And there you have it. The prosecution's case is blown up. (Much Wright style many wow)

So after I saw "Pokémon Mystery Dungeon and the Deathly Swalot" in the video I decided to make names if Pokémon had Harry Potter names Pokémon Mystery Dungeon and the Relic Fragment Pokémon and uh... **runs**

I liked the first two, rescue teams and explorers, the third one was ok but the forth was not the best. i would have rather waited for an extra year and have gotten a better one. I'm still waiting for another pokemon rangers game as well.

I recently beat the new game, Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon, and the twist is just stupid. You find out that your partner is actually mew and then he talks about all the good times you had then transforms into a big ball of light and fly's away. Then the credits happen. Its a really weird ending.

Loved the video!! I have a theory too: in his special episode, Bidoof wished to have some one to instruct on explorations' stuffs. Some time after that, you and your companion joined the guild (boom, wish granted). Your companion's motivation to join was to become a cool explorer and unveil the mistery around his ancient fragment. So, he joined because of the ancient fragment...aka bidoof's wish was made a reality thanks to the fragment. So, it was jirachi that gave the companion the fragment in order to make the wish a reality.

So, here's a tinfoil theory. We know that there are two universes in pokemon- one with mega evolution, and one without. Where did the timeline split? I propose that the events in this game happened before any of the other pokemon games- in fact, quite some time before them, and that these events are what resulted in the timeline splitting. For starters, there are very few humans in the world at this time and it's canonical that pokemon existed before humans. Arceus created the universe and pokemon and humans came to be sometime after that. So building off that, we know that there was initially one timeline and that the planet was completely paralyzed until a human and his grovyle (with the aid of Celebi) returned to the past to mend it. Darkrai, however, interfered and made the human also become a pokemon. For the sake of clarity, we'll say the pokemon was a pikachu and the partner was a vulpix. After the story- which is summarized in the video- Pikachu and Vulplix manage to save time, and erased the future Pikachu came from. Pikachu, however, is restored- and when we play the special episode with Grovyle, we see that the entire future that was erased was resurrected by Arceus- but how is that possible? That future should have been erased by the actions of Pikachu and Vulpix, and a new one created in the process! A new one was created, but the old one was preserved via Arceus' intervention. This is where the timelines split. One of these leads to the traditional stories of Red/Green-Black/White 2. The other is the one in which mega evolution was discovered. To further tie into an interesting part of this theory- what becomes of Darkrai after Palkia shatters the dimensional wormhole? Well, a few things. We first know that humans and pokemon cannot communicate with one another directly- Pikachu is shocked that Vulpix can talk to him. Keep that in mind as we continue. Pikachu was a human when he traveled in time and became a Pokemon and lost all of his memories, barring his name and that he was once human. So, if we assume a similar thing would happen when Darkrai's dimensional wormhole got attacked- then Darkrai would be sent to another time, as a human without any memory except that he used to be a pokemon and his name- but consider this. Darkrai is considerably weaker than Dialga and Palkia, hence why he doesn't confront them directly. He works through careful schemes and manipulation, relying on dreams, illusions and henchmen to do his dirty work rather than fighting. In the end, he tries to escape because he is a coward (and he had six strong pokemon defending him at that). So, if his attack on the portal could cause that, Palkia's would probably cause considerably more- Darkrai would have no memory at all if he even survived the experience. What we do know, though, is that a human was found alone in the Unova wilderness by Ghetsis- a human with no explanation of where he came from and that lacks a human heart. A human that can speak to Pokemon, but has no explanation as to why he can- a human implied to have maybe once been or actively is a Pokemon in disguise (or something of the sort. So, Darkrai becomes trainer N after Palkia's assault on the portal.

I like how your partner Pokémon actually have personality like in pmd explorers your partner Pokémon starts out as a wimp and throughout the game they become more confident but there still respectful there character always feels like there the same person

This is UNSATISFACTORY. Dusknoirs motive was pure self preservation. The corruption of time caused indifference to all within it possibly caused by Darkrai intervening further. Darkrai I personally believe in this game's world the deity of pure darkness. Dialga and palkia are deities of space and time obviously but to manipulate eternal deities he MUST have EXTREME power. Darkrai is not guaranteed to be vanquished and our characters have power equal or greater than that of ALL three Gods. I theorize as a stretch that Wigglytuff is the power of Arceus, You are the mind and will.

This game had me feeling all sorts of feels on my first run. I cried when my character disappeared. This game is one of my all time favorites. The soundtrack, the story, and the game mechanics were all amazing. And this review/theory had me feeling all sorts of nostalgia.

The fact that we can have such in depth theories about a pokemon game shows just how good Pokemon Mystery Dungeon really is
