The POWER of PREDICTION // It will be hard. ED will lash back. You won't always feel certain.

In this video I talk about utilising the power of prediction in recovery. Predicting that things will be hard/challenging. Predicting that ED will lash back and disapprove of everything you do that is recovery aligned. Predicting that you won't always feel connected with your core recovering self. Predicting these things won't make them go away but it will put you in a position of power when you come to face them.
I hope that you find this helpful and please let me know in the comments below any ideas for fun vlogs that you'd like to see. Thank you!! xx
Please note: everyone's recovery journey is unique and it may be that the points I make in this video are not accessible and/or relevant to you so please, as always, take what helps and leave the rest.

Thank you for this video! ❤ I feel so confused when after some good days when recovery feels like an absolutely right thing to do, intrusive thoughts about food and the feeling of being lost and unsure are coming back. I used to blame myself for this mindset change, but now I understand that we, human beings, aren’t stable, and our feelings are affected by a real world like thousand times a day, so it’s totally okay. The most important thing, however, is whether I allow my thoughts and feelings to impact my actions. And if no, then everything should be fine..

Thank YOU for sharing as you have here: practicing self-compassion is SO important in recovery, and in life, as is holding onto the power that you have to choose which actions you take in the now. Thank you again for sharing and here's to the realness of recovery and human life

Thank you for this video Emily! I wondered if you had any advice on tackling the feeling of guilt after good days? When I have days full of good food and have challenged the ED, whilst also feeling relaxed and happy, I often end with a huge sense of guilt for this enjoyment - like I'm not worthy of living without the ED, for putting myself first and for being happy. It's so tough sometimes and makes me wonder if I'll ever fully allow myself to recover. Thank you!

Hi Hannah, thank you for sharing: I encourage you to get curious about what lies behind that guilt and to ground yourself in the person you want to be and life you want to live. To challenge that judgement about your worth head on and to recognise where ED is showing up in this. It is right and proper and normal and natural that giving your body what it desperately needs, and doing what your core self knows you need to be doing, feels good. Yes there are lots of times in recovery where this is not the case, where its hard and where ED is loud in backlash, but these good days you describe are normal and brilliant. Speak back to the ED, shine a light on that judgement and march firmly in the opposite direction. You deserve to be fully ED free and that is the life that you need to march towards head first

Hi Emily, thank you for this reminder. I try and say to myself that I'd there wasn't a resistance I would've been better years ago. Can I ask though, how do I work out what intrusive thoughts or 'ideas', suggestions in my head/wants are not true or trustworthy? Sometimes the thoughts I get or reasons I hear for changing things or making a certain choice feel very 'true' and non ED, but afterwards I can then Sometimes recognise they were actually NOT helping me towards the future life I want to live? It can be so confusing. I get blindsided. The thoughts can feel so sensible/unharmful.

For me it is so helpful to do the meditations of dr. Joe Dispenza. It is all about letting go of the past ( behaviours, thoughts) and stepping into your new future and make a clear vision of that . Reminding yourself over and over again : who you want to be. Thank you Emily for your wise support ❤

It is like I was meant to see this video today. I have had a pretty rough week and the only thing calming me is excessive exercise which is no use when my calorie intake is not sufficient, so ED noise is going to be when I sit still not moving. thanks
