In this video, I review The Powertec Multipress. I have had 3 Multipress machines over the last 15 years and each model has been an improvement over the last. I also compare the Multipress to the Levergym.

Good to see the Levergym back! The multipress looks like a good option. The height of the lever arms are definitely better positioned for pressing. I wish Powertec didn't make their benches wider at the low back support area. It doesn't make sense to me, plus it is uncomfortable when doing chest supported rows. Good to see you used the sticker numbers (thanks for the shout out!) and I hope you didn't hurt your head too bad.

Thanks so much, Carter! I’m glad you caught the mention! For purely pressing and rows, I would also prefer for a “normal shaped” pad. I see the wide bottom as being advantageous for lumbar support for leg extensions and leg presses.

Hey, this was a great review and actually what pushed me to buy the machine. I really enjoy it! I was hoping to bug you with a quick question if you get around to it. 1) How have you found your workouts convert to free weights? On the PowerTec I'm up to 205 lbs for bench for 3 sets of 5 (so 184 effective weight using their calc). Have you found that converts well to actual bench? I finally have the opportunity to mix in some gym workouts again and want to give myself some reasonable targets.

I own a Multi press workbench (MP-16) as it’s a 2016 model. The one I have does not come with the plate that attaches to the upright tube to give you many options to set and fine tune the placement of the lever arms for bench and shoulder pressing. I wish I waited for the current model but I’m happy with what I have. Nice review.

With the workbench you cant detach the bench so if you lower the bench to its lowest postion ,is it the same for squatting as the levergym ? Great review. I kind of wish I had bought the multipress over the levergym. I don't really use the pulley system at all on it after buying a dedicated lat/low pulley tower. Fantastic that you have brought the powertec back. I agree with an relate to your intro in the video. A will look forward to seeing more content on the multi press and levergym. I have recently taken delivery and set up the GLS jammer arms from primal strength as they finally arrived here in the UK after a long back-order wait... Yet I still love the powertec leverage systems! If you ever get a 3x3 racking system I could recommend the Gls for a review as they have a converge option, acting almost like a pendulum to bring the arms closer together as you press. It was also great to hear you mention the prone row variation on the multi-press/multi-system lever arms with the one that hits the upper back (and rear delts). This is one I worked out and is a go to exercise when I am not deadlifting in a cycle. Keep up the good informative work buddy!

Thanks so much! The Levergym was greatly missed and I’m glad to have it back! Also, really good to hear you are liking the jammer arms. A lot of companies are just starting to make converging jammer arms and arms that adjust more easily on the rack. Up until the converging arms and easily adjustable arms, I have not been impressed with any rack-mounted lever arms…they seemed like way more trouble than what they’re worth.
@johnpain8380
@johnpain8380 Год назад
@@HomeGymHacksandReviews I thought you would miss the levergym mate. In a time I had to downsize temporarily and the gyms were closed in 2020, I got the lever gym set up in the living room and It is testimony to how little space it takes, yet offers so much in functionality. For this reason I would never want to part with the 'little' gem, and occasionally re live a lever gym only workout back from the living room days, so to speak. Much like you did that very enjoyable mini series you filmed. Legend! Oh really? I was not aware that other companies were working on the converge option, though I figured that they will not be far behind as they want to close the gap on hammer strength and the like being involved in home use gym equipment. Like you I was not interested by rack lever arms for sure, but the converge option and ability to seated chest press, knowing It would not take up any additional floor space for the sake of several hundred pounds/dollars ended up being the deal makers. I definitely agree with how awkward the arms can be to move. I have worked on some techniques to lower the inconvenience, but If it is ease of use and adjustability we are taking about, Powertec's lever gym definitely wins on that front. It is just nice to have the options in order to find the best possible variations of the classic exercises at home i feel.

@@johnpain8380 thanks so much! I was on the fence about making that Push / Pull / Legs routine for the LG, so it’s really great to hear it was and still is well received. I’ve said it many times, if I could only have one machine, it would be the LG and great to hear you think it’s as good as I do. I’m not sure I’ll ever get Jammer Arms. I do so little barbell work that I sold my Power Rack because it took up way too much space for how little it got used.

@@HomeGymHacksandReviews 100% with you in the lever gym buddy. I am happy for you that you have acquired a new one and enjoy using it, despite of all the other great gear you have. I had been meaning to ask you, as being 41 now myself, I have had issues from 'heavy' freeweight training over years. I have had to retire the barbell bench press due to a long running shoulder issue (one of the reasons I find the seated chest press of good value as it bothers me less). I still have never had a problem with my knees or squatting in general, but the deadlifts had taken a toll on my lower back. I have successfully spent several months working back in the deadlift cycles, gradually and my lower back still feels fresh after years away from it. So, do you feel you could bring back the king of exercises in the barbell from ever? Or is it like my bench press, where aggravation awaits no matter what?
@HomeGymHacksandReviews
@HomeGymHacksandReviews Год назад
@@johnpain8380 sorry to hear about your shoulder issue. The deadlift (even the hex bar version), T bar rows, and barbell bent over rows always caused me trouble after my initial lower back injury. To me, the risk is not worth the reward. I have the Body Masters Low Back Machine and a few other exercises I do to take the place of it. The straight bar bench press is another exercise that I never plan to perform again; I’d much rather use dumbbells or machines.

As always, nice review. I'm glad your experience was better than mine. I have several Powertec pieces that I have been very happy with, Powertec rack, leg sled, leverage squat. But unfortunately this piece is not one of them due to a problem you mentioned that some people had reported. I had an old model that wasn't centered. Got rid of the old model and bought a new model. (You are right very easy to put together). But to my dismay the new model was off center as well! I tried taking it apart and putting back together several times but no luck. I think the back piece on mine is defective causing the issue. I asked for a replacement part but they sent me the wrong part which did not fix the problem. I need to go back to them again. Since the bench is attached being off centered destroys the usability/value of this machine.

@HomeGymHacksandReviews

I think it’s starting to happen. Kaizen / Gym Pin and Crandall are two companies who are making it happen with rack-mounted lever arm options. However, I have yet to see any rack-mounted lever arms (even ones that converge) that look as natural as Powertec’s lever arms or that adjust as quickly and easily as Powertec’s. I don’t see the lack of converging arms as a deal breaker (although it would take it to the next level). For example, the barbell bench press (don’t care for) and push ups (which I love) are not converging exercises.

I was wondering why the bench slide slopes down towards the pivot. I realised it’s an attempt to keep the range of lever motion during shoulder press close to the horizontal to minimise the variation in load across the exercise range of motion. However the slope isn’t enough to completely offset the difference in the user’s shoulder height between flat bench and shoulder press - so the press will always suffer from a big load variation since the lever is angled way above horizontal. So while flat bench is good I think the shoulder press will be compromised as the load will vary by ~50% across the ROM.
@HomeGymHacksandReviews
@HomeGymHacksandReviews 8 месяцев назад
I think the weight feels consistent throughout the entire range of motion of the exercise.
@brickmissing8295
@brickmissing8295 8 месяцев назад
@@HomeGymHacksandReviewsIf I remember my high school physics correctly - the downward force is max when the lever is horizontal, 50% at 45 degrees, and zero when the lever is completely vertical. So the sweet spot is +-10 degrees around the horizontal. However, it’s possible that a variable load may still feel good if it meshes well with your own strength variation across the ROM.
