#sneaker #sneakerheads #sneakers the problem with backdooring! wow, what an episode. follow the IG: / sneakernomicz TikTok: / sneakernomics link to daejin parks vid. • I Asked Ex-Managers Ho...
Do people want the shoe? There will be a market regardless... it just sucks Nike won't do something about it. But their stock just dropped 18%. SNKRS App is Worthless.
The only reason i have is because i got into shoes way after release. I got my lost n founds, sb4s and firev red 3s but honestly i got such great deals via ebay for one reason or another- i ended up paying $200 for the lost n founds, $300 for the sb4s and the fire reds under retail. I can’t really complain but if it’s not reach back I agree no one should do resale
The resell market is dying. All these resale stores popping up in malls and Nike flooding the market with lackluster Jordan releases is killing the resell game
The problem is the sneaker brands. Making exclusives and releasing it in limited quantities. And those jokers can't even be bothered that the resellers are the ones making the most dough. And until now, those hype sneakers are still selling out. While the plain janes are left to be bricks because of over production. I wouldn't be surprise if the new soon to be released travis scotts, or ama maniere, olympics would be unreachable for those who really wants it. It will still end up selling out. So stop buying from resellers. Let them feel the tons of shoes they have on hold.
sneaker companies could completely eliminate all of this in one simple way: preorders. Two months before a sneaker comes out you can just add it to cart at retail, and if 100,000 pairs sell they just make more. Then they ship you the sneakers when they are made. It would eliminate 99% of backdooring and destroy the reseller market. But too many people make too much money from the system that exists, and the sneaker companies do not give a shit as long as their retailers are happy. and the retailers are happiest when they get a piece of the resale market. so nothing will change.
I don’t get why that’s not an option. We already know what’s coming out and waiting anyhow. I’d have no issue. Majority of sneakerheads do not care about exclusivity if the show is dope
Exactly, companies would make so much more, assuming a Travis only has 60k stock and the demand is way more than that, they could sell for that demand and get 200k+ worth of sales
@@dylanfernandez4830 the thing is that nike and others rely on scarcity to drive up prices. they think (and they are probably right) a shoe that you could easily get, is less desirable. they have built their business around this concept and the problem is it is not sustainable in the long term.
My solution: don't pay resale and don't shop with known backdoorers. I've got way too many shoes to try and justify supporting people that live off making my enjoyment of this hobby more difficult. You will never see me give a penny of my money to Trophy Room or any Whitaker Group store, and if I can't get it a shoe at or below retail, it's on to the next one.
Used to be a foot locker manager in AUS 20 years ago. That was when sneakers was more niche hobby... resell wasn't as big in those days and really hype Jordans would sit on shelves for atleast half a day. However even back then we would still constantly get approched by Hong Kong or Japan resellers try to approch me to back door on some releases for them to sell back in Asia. I never really did it as i love the game too much. however i do know another manager who did. However the little something extra wasn't enticing enough to consider risking my dream job over at the time. I would only do "back door" and hold 1 pair in a certain sizes for my regulars for nothing extra but a hand shake and a long conversation about kicks. Some i would call to let them know something was about to drop soon. And usually for customers i considered as sneaker nerd friends i may sell them a pair in their size a few days early. But that was the days when it was a underground hobby. I had my hookups a Nike stores and other retailers. We hook each other up not to resell but to enjoy the hobby...
24 hour Pre-order window to keep hype on a shoe if you miss it too bad. In person pick up on raffle wins. And if in person pick up isn't possible proof of purchase with I.D. or finally, just make more pairs flood the market on hyped releases like they did the reimagined Breds and Military Blues to the point that resale isn't worth it.
What if Nike/shoe companies started doing Pre-orders. They make a certain amount +pre-orders and gage demand. Make less retros, so shoes feel more like a once an alife time opportunity/special.
Nike should just make these kicks based on orders. You have all month to place an order. If you place an order within that month, you get it. Period. I think this will still have that exclusive feel because instead of limiting pairs in production, you can limit the time of availability. Just a thought. I love sneakers but stopped buying over the last couple years because you can never find anything good in stores.
Stop getting confused about whitaker : he is not backdooring shoes to pay rent , he is helping Chinese criminals to launder their crime money . He is an awful guy, not a pitiful shop owner….
The pepperoni J1s AND the moldy foam J1s never even made it to retailers in my city, on release they were already in the resellers windows when the mall opened. Was shameless
They should make Regional Codes on Sneakers that every Batch to a Retailer can be traced down to the store who sells them so they can see exactly who sold those pairs backdoor and kick them out of their tier 0 program following with a lawsuit
@@kiLLinEmSoFTly And that's why I say F em! Why pay resell when rep and UAs are 98% to better quality these day if you know where to buy, plus original customs nike would never make like the AE86 dunks or Travis Scott fantasy colorways.
I honestly get all my shoes through the foot locker app, the only way I lose out is either I don’t get picked through the raffle or I take too long because I’m at stuck at work I don’t hit the the button when I win the raffle.
Yea it turned off a lot of true sneaker collections from even trying for releases..I.e footlocker giving its sneakers to goat before releasing them at their stores ....
Do not contribute to this trade , so stop paying resale by choosing other models or brands. It’s only a sneaker, no one cares if you wear a Travis Scott or not.
Some people saw those and actually wanted to wear them but thanks to resellers the value skyrocketed making it impossible to obtain and it makes the average consumer feel like dog shit
Ways to tell someone is backdooring: 1) as long as youre not blind use common sense. If some 16yo has 60 pairs of a brand new shoe ITS NOT LEGITIMATE! 2)these clowns love to self snitch so they will post talking about "the plug", or they will come out and say they got it through backdoor. Or post a video doing it lol
In my mind, people who use bots are in the same category as those who facilitate backdooring; the outcome for the average sneaker enjoyer is exactly the same. Furthermore, with resale prices seemingly boundless, we forget about the already sizeable markups on retail values. If I was filthy rich, I feel I still wouldn't be able to justify spending that kind of cash on a pair of sneakers that were made on the cheap, by greedy corporations who brazenly exploit both their employees and their customers.
The allocation process with nike is so corrupt its a joke they need to start handling the releases themselves or at least most the pairs and give the stores or collaborators some of the shoes.
@@sneakernomics5547absolutely there’s no reason in this day and age you cant serialize an expensive low quantity product. If apple can let you track a $100 pair of headphones with unique numbers, you’re telling me Nike can’t?
@@marcokalion7293Yeah you can, reduce shipping his full stock to him and make him sign a contract detailing to him if he backdoors like that again suits and business between them is void and null hince forward. That's how.
Great video, thanks for making it. I've been accused of buying backdoor pairs when I get an exclusive from my local who only does FCFS, but haters gonna hate i guess 😅
You're right we don't have to but people want to. I know I am not going to stop paying resale within reason. I wouldn't get anything I want if it wasn't for paying resale.
BD'n kicks is for people who doesn't care about the sneaker community...just a profit opportunity and to increase followers on social media! It sucks and it could be easily eliminated if the sneaker community comes together and refuses to purchase aftermarket kicks! Retail or bust!!
Ultimately it’s the root of the supply chain that can minimise back dooring & that ends up with Nike. Big releases should only come directly from a Nike outlet or the website. Yes there is an issue with bots but that can be curbed easy enough with AI integration. Agreed it’s a big loss for the independent stores but if they want to be in the game, then Nike should have some SLA’s and KPI’s in place - which merit fair competition and nukes little fucks, that spoil the industry.
Stop doing the raffles, sweepstakes and waiting in long lines. As a sneakerhead, that have been collecting for years, sneakers always be on rotation...
Easy way to fix it is to make this punishable by law. The only way to truly combat backdooring any shoes is to have an agreement saying any backdooring or early sales of any shoe release will be fined or arrested for up to 2-5 years. Simple
Retail stores, Big Brands, and even collaborators don’t care! They are all going to get paid regardless! Yeah a few of us could stop buying and advise others to do the same, but that won’t do jack S#it! The only thing Brands truly care about is their IP being taken, because that could eventually impact their bottom line! That’s why they are going so hard at the rep market! As long as there’s people in the process and extra money to gain the back door will be wide open!
Just had a Nike Unite near me gatekeep a pair of returned CPFM AF1’s that were returned. Were in my size sitting behind the counter , they said oh we can’t sell those just got returned then hid them under the counter.. have literally bought items returned minutes before there.. it’s ridiculous. Employees should not be able to hold stuff for themselves and get them at 50% off only to be able to resell them
Within the last 5 years I’ve been more concerned with the latch to, materialism possessions/selfishness for money in this industry. the actually care for a clear standpoint of why a collector does have interest in a specific pair. (Story’s, and history seems out the window) Now it seems whatever hype is a gathering of religious sheep.
A good solution is to buy reps. If everyone that couldn’t buy at retail buys reps, then those greedy resellers would be sitting on shoes that are made from cheap glue, rubber and leather and lose a TON of money and then have to get a real job. Problem solved. 🤣
Predating this …Mom n Pops and skate shops had to alleviate excess inventory based on how Nike structured accounts. Example… Jordan Line… in order to stock the J3 Cements you had to take a gaggle of size L-5X tees that you didn’t order… Reps you’ll tell you that you can return them… but you had to return the shoes as well… Nike SB… Get the Ferris Bueller Dunk Highs and guarantee a Sell Out … but also have to take all of the weird FC stuff and all the other oddball models…. This is how shops stayed in business and met Nike’s obnoxious minimums… From here it grew into today’s insanity.
Last shoe I purchased from reseller is the A MA Maniere 3 OG on EBay when they first came out. WHAT WAS YOU LAST Sneaker you purchased from Resellers platform??
Install rfid chips on the box or shoe for tracking. If the shoes don't get scanned, then tracking doesn't turn off. This could lead to authorities learning who backdoored shoes, eventually leading to loss of tier status and/or jail time for participating in illegal distribution of shoes before scheduled release date.
The sneaker game is all about who and how many units can a reseller get. It’s really a shame for us average joes that keep taking L’s. But really not a way to fix the issue… am very new to the game but did this still happened in the 2000s?
Back in the day, before apps and online raffles. When you had to physically campout for kicks, I had a bunch of plugs through family and friends who worked at sneakershops, I would get stacks of sneakers backdoored. Was a good time but the profits werent as crazy as today.
There is no incentive for anyone to stop back dooring as long as people like me pay resale. I want what I want and call me stupid but I’ll pay. There would need to be a control structure and penalties for people to stop and I doubt that will happen. Did you see Nike’s quarterly report the other day? Stock is at an all time low so they won’t spend to fix this.
This is BS, Nike employees getting their pairs first and back door them. Nike factory in Memphis is worst them employees reserve for families and friends with 50 percent off.
Most of them are to ugly and copies of Nike or Adidas or New Balance silhouettes anyways. Why not just get those instead? Luxury brand shoes is for grown man shit like, loafers,Beatle boots and gators and red bottoms,me personally.
