Smug Kane uses the word 'confusion' twice in her weird 'explanation'. I think the only person confused is her. You can't run 10 meters over the mark if the umpire hasn't called play-on. It isn't a complicated rule.

You can also hear the umpire call "hold" after paying the mark, then he didn't have the guts to enforce the 50 metre penalty rule. Then this condescending justification which is blatantly wrong! Contrary to what the thumbnail says, Laura Kane is not there to serve the fans. She is there to shoehown her politics into every aspect of the sport. The first and most noticeable things she has implemented been to remove players weights and police player and coach language on field. Both entirely unrelated to the sport and are ideologically motivated.

The problem is there's too many rules that can contradict other rules. They've literally made the game an umpires call, which is ridiculous. Rules like if it's the push in the back or 'protecting space', it's up to the umpire to decide what he wants to pay! Stupid game now.

The big problem is that umpires will not pay free kicks against Collingwood in front of their goal. They allow Collingwood to play as they like when they are close to goal. This occurs over and over again in the crucial parts of close games.

The AFL has ruined the sport.

The officiating or over-officiating is making the game difficult to watch. It’s fine to say that mistakes are made, but games are being decided by horrendous calls every week it seems. And the AFL’s refusal to ever admit any wrongdoing or a mistake creates further division and frustration. The amount of influence umpires are having on the game makes it extremely unpalatable to viewers. Remove the stand rule, remove the 6-6-6 rule, understand that tackles are “dangerous” by intent and accidents/injuries will happen.

The real issue here is that the stand rule sucks and let's get rid of it.

this season is actually atrocious , if you told someone 10 years ago this is how controversial the game would be and how stupid the umpiring system would be , they’d think you was on the gear.

The problem is that they justify bad decisions with absolutely crap excuses that then makes the umpires think “so my bosses think that’s a good call, I’ll keep doing it”. They bring in the damn insufficient intent rule which NONE of the umpires have enough game awareness to properly understand. A guy trying his best to keep the ball in going forward will be penalised then a minute later someone will stand over the ball and let it roll across the line or just run it straight over to avoid holding the ball and that’s fine. The game has been shocking to watch for years. Umpires, players and fans have no idea what has happened to thr game in the last ten or so years..

Why is Damo running cover so hard for the touched goal? Its clear as day even on grainy footage it was touched and hes still pretending theres not enough evidence to overturn the decision. So if that isnt enough evidence then what is? Does his hand have to bend back? His forarm? Does he have to smother the ball?!

Ross is wrong about umpiring clarification. Not all decisions and mistakes are equal. AFL needs to explain howlers, and own the ones they got wrong. His comments came after the Suns match, where his side won because of the howler paid against Mac Andrew in the final minute. Of course he didn't want the AFL to admit they got that one wrong lol

The cameras are pathetic. The frame rate and clarity are poor for such a wealthy league with access to the worlds best technology. Having said that, even with shitty cameras, you can see fingers going back.

Eddie your assessment is wrong on the 50m, it is going to lead to player undermining the whistle and it's going to be another club that feels the over correction. The game is 360 degree game, the player momentum into the mark led to him being off the line, when the player is unsure they are going to be paid the mark, they need to be prepared to play-on. Its not "it should of been play-on" , the mark is to reward the player with an unimpeded kick, similiarly the rules of stand is about speeding up the movement of the football and the defensive players ran over the mark!! Knowingly, It not a tacky to player ran back from the mark when told to stand So the next who is running with the flight of the football or come in from the side and marks, because there momentum takes them off the line, it's play on? So players are supposed to anticipate and guess what the umpire might do, and put all their attention to the umpires. As opposed to the game itself, the ball and the opposing players. And players are told to play to the whistle and do what the umpire says. Well what happens when the umpires don't know what to do, second guess and do nothing? Bartel always complaining about decisions that didn't go North's way. Complains about North player touching Crisp's kick for a goal. Nick Larkey took a mark over the goals/points line in the 1st quarter that led to a goal from 5 metres out. Review showed it. Decision wasn't overturned.

Absolutely no point in asking for an opinion from Eddie that involves Collingwood. If it was the same situation reversed he would have seen it as a categorical mistake against Collingwood, hysterical it cost Collingwood the game, asking for umpire heads. Umpire gets to call play on, not opposition players. So from now on Eddie is ok with players making the decision to ignore the umpire, decide for themselves what they think and there should be no penalties.

So on two occasions shown here Collingwood benefited from umpiring mistakes. Hmmmmm.

Umpiring has cost the Crows 8 points ( vs Essendon 24 , vs Sydney 23 ) and a finals appearance. There is no accountability despite admissions of wrong doing.

The game is played to the whistle. Like an Offside in the NFL, if you guess right it looks great but if you anticipate incorrectly, well you get penalised.

When the AFL says they are "not changing a rule, they are reinterperating" mid season (as with holding the ball) that tells you all you need to know. They will just go with the loudest voices on an issue, not necissarily the right ones.

With the Brisbane tackle, had the opposition player done something silly and thrown out his head and hit his head people would say that it was a sling and a bad tackle. I don't think there's that much between that tackle and the Harley Reid tackle in execution, though the outcomes were different. Just to be clear I think it's a good fair tackle, and I think the opposition player did the correct safe thing as well.

Ross Lyon nails it perfectly. Why is one free kick different to another where there are bad calls during a game. Everyone cries about it only if its at the end of a close game and only when it involves collingwood, yet you never hear a whimper when collingwood get rolled by bad calls. There is a lot of problems with all this. TOO many umpires. Since they brought in 4 umpires they dont know if they are coming or going and they always look at each other to say to pay this and that. Its almost like they rely on the senior umpire to make the hard calls. Mass producing umpires is like mass producing volks wagons or mass producing pretty much anything. The quality diminishes. If you all want better umpiring, first the rules have to be fixed as the rules over the last 5 yrs alone are some of the most stupid rules to exist and not even umpired properly. The stand rule is so broken. Players with the ball dont even kick over the mark. They can be standing 5-10mtrs off the mark and there is no play on, yet the man on the mark cant move. This is the AFLs answer to speeding up the game. AFL footy has the worst rules in any global sport with so many grey areas and rules with clauses within clauses and it needs to go back to 2 or maybe 3 umpires. The more umpires, the more interpretations of the same rule will be played out. Even goal umpires dont even make solid calls as they rely on the video when its clear to see and boundary umpires are no better half the time, when all they have to do is run up and down and throw a ball now and then. The afl mass producing umpires and this is the end result. Glenn James is still one of the best umpires the game has had and he pretty much umpired games on his own. If ppl really want to be pedantic with the rules then you can take a really close look at running before bouncing. Seeing that 15m is required for both running without a bounce and kicking to a teammate to be paid a mark. How many ppl can honestly say that players are mostly running too far as when you see a kick paid with pissy little 10m kicks yet players run much further than the kicks that are paid marks. If you pay a mark that barely goes 15m then players should be penalized for running that same distance without a bounce, but they never are unless they are running about 30m. Not to mention players allowed to run off the mark outside the boundary when having a shot on goal, yet called play on when they barely move off the mark when having a set shot in front. Even hitting the post is a point when the rules stipulate that the ball has to cross the line. WHY. If it hits the post then its technically play on if it bounces back in play as it clearly hasnt crossed the line. I could pick out so many more. The whole system is now broken. And dont anyone go crying and complaining about Laura. You were all kissing her ass when she had Maynard front the tribunal last year and wanted him suspended when the MRO cleared the matter but she brought it forward and now you all turn on her and many still go on about even to last week. My god footy followers are a fickle lot. But after following this game for 50yrs, ppl need to get their head out of their ass as bad calls in umpiring is and always has been part of the game. It happens with every team every week, so dont you all go crying that its collingwood because your own team gets its fair share of good and bad calls. It is what it is, you win some, you lose some. What needs to be done is reduce the interpretations of each rule on the field and having more umpires just makes it worse. They were called white maggots in the 80s for a reason.
