Polite Correction: The quality of their tops starts at Core, then up to a 10 Top, then Artist Package, and the Private Stock is at the top tier, in that order. Wood Library tops are chosen by select dealers, and can vary.

I always appreciate separate volume and tone, BUT I CANNOT STAND the toggle switch on the horn of a double-cut. On very select occasions you see some 594 double-cuts with the toggle down by the knobs like an LP Special DC (my favorite layout btw)

Gregory T Rupp I think his dislike of the wood binding is more specific to this instrument and its color choices/combination of the top and sides. Myself, I love both versions of binding. My wife was also watching this video and immediately agreed about the color choices vibe when the image of Ronald McDonald flashed on the screen!

Which is perfect if you want to end NOT playing your guitar you left one year of a working man's salary in... Then, as about anything trying to do both the job of a Strat and the job of a LesPaul, it ends failing in both roles... Nope : same stuff : over-expensive for what they are and overrated. I wouldn't barter any of my 80's/90's Vigier's (2 1984 Arpège-I, one 1987 Arpège-II, two 1991-1993 Passion III-90/10; two 1993 Excalibur) as well as Leduc's (one Masterpiece custom, one U-guitar, two Aliens, one U-bass-5/FL, one Pad-5), Xavier Petit's (one 'San Dimas' and one 'PRS', both made of 100+ years old Honduras mahogany) or Patrice Blanc's (one Stoker) for any PRS, Fender or Gibson. The only PRS I own is a PRS SE Single Cut Korina because I wanted to give a try to the Limba wood and, hadn't Epiphone been using the 24.75" scale which is too short for me, I'd probably have chosen an Explore RI-57. The PRS-SE SCK went for €250 on the 2nd hand market, OK, for €250, PRS are good guitars if you change the PUs, and actually a good investment since... a SCK now sales for €1000 on the 2nd hand market!!! I must say that Korean company WMIC did really great job : frankly, it's hard to believe, looking at how the SCK is crafted, that these were sold for only €499 as new!
@lespaul6550
@lespaul6550 3 года назад
Exactly! Their attention to detail and superb craftsmanship puts the big guys to shame. That's what you get when you have the same guitar nerd guiding the company all these years. However much I like my Les Paul, Gibson has been, for a long while, a company. And "managers" are always looking at ways of increasing their end-of-year bonuses, which usually means screwing customers.

One of the main differences between a Custom 24 or similar PRS and the 594s is scale length. The scale length on most PRS models is 25", but the 594s are 24.594" (hence "594"). Also, while that tailpiece is really cool (the quick change bit), Ibanez came out with a similar design back in the 70s.

As you could have noticed it is not splitting the humbucker. Neck humbucker was 7ish KOhm and activation of the switch would result in over 4KOhm. So not a split but coil tap. Plus they include resistors to balance pot in coil tap mode. They have made it so that pickup keeps some volume when in the coil tap mode. Pretty good solution. I do not feel a need to use coil split on my 594 while even clean pickups are sounding very nice. And those pickups are LT variations meaning not normal 58/15 but vintage low turn versions that are very PAF inspired.

three things to note. When you split the coils, there is almost no drop in volume. The top is thicker so you get much lower distortion than a typical hollow body. Also, the feel of the neck is amazing, really rolled over and comfortable.
@brandonthompson8413
@brandonthompson8413 3 года назад
Scale length is also different to a traditional PRS. A traditional PRS will have a 25" scale. The 594 is in reference to the "true" gibson scale length which is 24.594" not 24.75. That is where the "594" name comes from.

I could be wrong but you may be getting confused by the mccarty name. It was its own model since the 90s, but from what I have seen when the name is attached to other models like a starla, singlecut, custom 22 or whatever it usually refers to the finish or the wiring

I'm actually like in love with the knobs those are the most beautiful knobs I've ever seen not only on a guitar but quite literally anything that exists. I once saw a movie where a guy falls in love with his phone Siri thingy and I though that was pretty down bad and just hella sad until my eyes landed on those knobs now I understand how someone can fall in love with an inanimate object, wanna marry it, cherish it, adopt kids with it and raise them together.

Thanks for reviewing this model, I was very impressed by everything about it, save for the pickups. The 58/15LT pickups from 3-4 years ago sounded like the heavenly choir compared to these latest tuned capacitance and inductance (TCI) versions. These new ones sound souless to my ears. I hope you will review a 594 single cut one day.
