The PSA vending machine news just keeps getting worse. The optics were already not great but now the internet has done some digging and found out who might be pulling the strings on the machine itself and the people involved are on a lot of peoples avoid at all costs lists.

I actually asked PSA Customer Service if their logo could be used on items like team bags to show they are designed for PSA holders. They told be absolutely not. Then they allowed a company to do THIS. Haha

To take it a little further. I'm surprised that a casino would put this onto their floor. Couldn't this put their gaming license in jeopardy? I bet the Nevada Gaming Commission has regulations concerning this type of machine.

Sports card content creaters cluching thier pearls over Gambling, while they rip boxes several hundred boxes of hobby boxes looking for those hits, while getting a 10th or less back in value box after box is funny to me.

I’m with you Larry. Guys like Neo and the like think that just because they know what they could win, that ripping wax isn’t gambling. How about this, when I play roulette I know I’m gonna get red, black, 0, or 00. I know the EXACT odds before I put money on the table. Still think ripping wax isn’t gambling? It’s all moral relativism and cognitive dissonance.

Very well said, I can come up with so many analogies in addition to your roulette example that apply to ripping boxes as well. It’s all a gamble, checklist/odds or not.

@@NEO_Cards_Comics Oh, I agree with you 100% that this thing needs to have the contents displayed somewhere, I won’t fight you on that, not one bit. But, they put up the checklist and I put it on par with an automated version of a repack…which the hobby is apparently fine with. None of this is my cup of tea, but there is a segment of this hobby that loves the thrill of the gamble, and god bless them…they drive up the price on my wax that I’m sitting on.

I think to make it run well and correctly, you’d almost have to do a “deal or no deal” approach. Show all the cards available like a red box movie machine. Dark the cards that have been hit. Then have a randomizer to random when a card is bought. Then to keep it more fair, the deal or no deal approach would allow different price points based on the cards remaining. If your “top” cards are all available it’s a higher value. Once all your chasers are hit the value gets lower and lower to sell out inventory. Don’t know if that made any sense. But I’ve been pondering how it could be safe and yet fun and affective.

Hey I found something interesting yesterday and I think you will find this interesting as well. So there are Jackson Holliday fun face errors. They have the fun face back and they have random base cards on the front. I spoke with the guy selling it and he said they opened 32 of them out of a hobby box.

You could post a QR code on the box that details what’s inside still perhaps, so you could keep stocking it, but people would also know what their odds are

This is no different than eBay sellers out there posting "mystery boxes" and all that. I see nothing wrong with this. People in the hobby whine about everything possible. It's not directed towards hobbyists. It's a way for the gambling public in Vegas to...gamble. And since it's not giving out cash it's no different than a claw machine or some other chance machine that gives out prizes.

The de-activated cards on the machine is probably the best thing about this vending machine. There's really no reason to advertise 'hits' using a good serial number that a counterfeiter could use over and over again.

If there was a digital checklist with each card you could scroll to see (point in time). Spin and get your card (with barcode on the box for the inventory), if it shows your card no longer on the checklist for the vending machine, THEN I might find this a bit more ethical and less scammy.

I actually love this idea IF they work out the kinks. Similar to Arena club and how they post EXACTLY what’s in here and what’s already been hit, etc. with improvements made I think it’s good for the hobby

First, what have people been pulling from the machine? How much per? Are all slabs PSA? What is the average grade? Overall I couldn't care less about who put up the machine. Most walk away from a casino with nothing to show for it. At least you would go home with a slab.

U circled the wagon on whether there will be more to being none quick! I dont see how the pics on the wrap are relevant- assuming they are just marketing the most famous sports and non sportscard cant imagine they are in the machine (they arent going to change the wrap everytime they load)- just another way of buying $2 cards and selling for $50 but sportcard hobby people will just keep buying

Like you said, the repack machine is an interesting idea if done well. I am sucker for this stuff too lol. The checklist is key. It needs to be relevant to every single machine. You can imagine how messy it would get if they have 100 machines with the same checklist applied to all. Easy to manipulate and is why PSA should avoid it like the plague. Big conflict of interest on their part of its their own cards making its way into the machines.

Don't feel like it's a huge deal IMO because as said there is no checklist and anybody putting their money in it already have to know this and if not obviously didn't care to start with. That said any controversy that brings PSA down a notch or two in the hobby is fine by me.
