Moral of the fable: If you need help or want to improve your life, go to a certify psychologist, not to those scammers life coaches, etc.

@Psychology In Seattle A new follower here. You earned my sub for showing serious concern and compassion for what I deem the shame of our generation; homelessness. I think a hundred years from now people will look back at this age and ask, "how could they have let that happen", just as we look back at slavery and ask the same. There is absolutely no need of rich, Western, G7 countries allowing people to live in the streets, it's an abomination and completely inhumane. Let's hope that a serious public housing initiative along with Basic Income will soon solve the problem. Greetings from Toronto, Ontario.

Love the (close to the end) part where one wants to jump to conclusions ... and how that practice is a lazy way to just "close the subject and not hold ongoing questions in one's head " and ultimately know that you don't yet know

Sat here on my own, watching this podcast on my iPad, phone not buzzing with texts due to distancing of friends over the years, feeling anxious over my own self-image, all while listening to these guys discuss loneliness in today’s society and it’s implications. They’re so spot on because 15/10/5 years ago I didn’t feel as lonely as I do now. I don’t use Facebook/Instagram/Twitter and I feel that makes me an outcast, you could almost equate social media to a cult. My only option to make more friends is to portray a fake life on social media, this won’t solve loneliness in the long run, actually I’m convinced it will cause further self-image problems within the next generation. I don’t remember these issues when I was a child/teen, we all used to play outside together and the closest thing to social media was Neopets.

I don't think so. By eight years old, I knew religion was bunk - and I've only become more suspicious of mass self delusions.

Why not try church instead. Mabe stop trying to be hip with the newest thing and try church. Not so cool but no slavery or sex involved.

In the mid / late 1980s, there was a pyramid scheme called the Airplane Game. You started at the bottom, as a passenger, paying 1.5k for a seat. You paid this money to the 'pilot' who is at the top of the scheme. Below the pilot are 2 copilots and 4 cabin crew. Once all seats were sold, the 'pilot' would fly off (out of the game) and the plane would now split into two planes. Everyone would go up a rank: the passengers would become cabin crew, the cabin crew became co-pilots and the co-pilots would become the pilot of their own plane. This scheme started in New York City and was popular amongst people interested in the New Age and Personal Development. Meetings were held in peoples' homes/apartments/condos. You would see ads for it in alternative weeklies such as the Village Voice. I never got involved in it, but I knew people who did. I tried to talk them out of it, explaining to them how a pyramid scheme works--it will crash when it can no longer recruit new members. I heard a lot of "that can't happen to me..." When it really got going, you had ringleaders who 'piloted out' of multiple 'airplanes before it finally crashed.

This is such a fascinating podcast episode. It got me thinking about self esteem. How can you increase self esteem? How do you know if you are suffering from low self esteem? Is it possible to be too low on the narcissism spectrum? How can you become more narcissistic, to a degree that is beneficial?

Great podcast.... totally wish you had one on the leader of Buddhafield cult (holy hell movie) Also Y’all talking about question marks.... kinda like American horror story cult so many people thought it was as simple as it seemed and he was in charge and the leader of it all but were shocked to see it was more complicated than that and someone else really was the puppeteer. For all we know she could have been part of why nxivm went to a whole new level with everything he’d never been that crazy before maybe he just needed more.... or maybe it was her or someone else’s influence. It’s too bad more of them aren’t talking more about it all.

Most people are sheep who just want to be led. They'll submit, do whatever you want if you use the right words and emotions. Step one size them up step two pull strings too easy. Liz Holmes from Theranos knew this. There's a bit of Liz in all of us, our inner Liz.

Do a podcast explaining the difference between the Catholic Church and cults like NXIVM. Would be good. Sans Jordan Peterson digs if possible.
@RightSideNews
@RightSideNews 5 лет назад
Jordan Peterson actually does the opposite of what you claim here. Archetypal stories have been around for longer than we know. To be told to get your act together is encouraging and while it seems like common sense, it is very specific and practical advice and encouragement and based upon extensive amount research. Just because he is extremely popular doesn’t mean he’s some amazing guru that can be easily explained but I can’t help but lower my view of someone on a psychology podcast calling Jordan Peterson a cold reader who layers generalities into an interwoven ball of bs that he’s selling to people. He tells you what you don’t want to hear from the get-go. Just be smarter man... the other guy is good.
@RightSideNews
@RightSideNews 5 лет назад
Jordan Peterson would give a much better analysis than this, saying much more insightful bs than ya’ll. That was weird throwing him in there.
