I know this is late but my schnoodle also looks very confused whenever she got picked up, unlike my terrier who hated being picked up.

Most big dogs I have been around have been more lap dogs than the small dogs, so this is something I am unfamiliar with, I am however very familiar with large dogs wanting to be held like babies.

My dog is about collie size, and she just licks and gives me murderous looks.

They behave well because you train them well. You can't get a dog and expect it to be perfect. You have to TRAIN IT.
