In this video I demonstrate how I grind lathe tools on my "QUORN Universal Tool and Cutter Grinder". At the end of the video there are some still pictures of setups that I used when making some of the QUORN parts.
Respect for completing the Quorn. Home Shop Machining is definitely a journey with huge restrictions on Time/Space/Money At least for me :/ Would love to 'find' one of these in a flea market for £10. I was always the dreamer ! :)
Thanks for sharing this video, I am just about to start machining my Tool Holder so it is great to see the close up use of a finely made one! Much appreciated!
Hi Miguel, It all depends on how much time you have and how soon you want to finish it. The construction notes that were printed in Model Engineer required only a lathe, a drill press., hand tools and precision measuring tools. I used a lathe, drill press, horizontal-Vertical milling machine w helix milling attachment, small surface plate and basic precision measuring tools. I hope that helps. Cheers, F.C.
Thanks for sharing this, so few videos available on these amazing little grinders. Did you make all the castings or get them as a kit? How happy are you with the power on it, any issues with it wanting to bog down when taking a cut?
Hi John Prosser, I bought the kit of rough, unmachined castings, springs, round bars and diamond nib from Model Engineering Supply (I think) in England in 1979. M.E.S. is long out of business now I imagine. I put a 1/7 HP Bodine Electric motor on mine. As long as you keep the the feed low (
The last I heard you could get the complete kit from Hemingway Kits in England for about 700 pounds. They have drawings and construction notes available tool. Cheers F.C.
