Konami made my MSX experience complete. Thank you very much for sharing all of this and you are right about the music. I can actually blindly remember the Konami game from the music.

Hey !! I forgot to mention a keyboard shortcut to get *_INFINITY INVISIBLE_* to our Knightmare hero !! In sequence and keeping pressing, left, right, y and then *_select._* The game will start with a count down at the bottom of screen with the invisibility time !! When reaches zero (alarm sound when next) just press select again !! This is native to the game and all versions (Knightmare Gold MSX2 version) will work !! This video make me remember from my MSX Brasil childhood. Pure nostalgia juice !! Super thanks !!!

Great series. I really like that you use original machines, and original games. Even if many retro folks did definitely _not_ use original games most of the time (I did have some, but 10x more pirated stuff). I knew some people with MSX, but much more with C64 or even Atari 8 bit. One had an MSX2 with Metal Gear and Thexder. That was pretty impressive. Even if the Z80 was not a very good CPU at that time (1990), the smooth scrolling and same color and resolution as the Atari ST made it quite good.

That's correct, the principal idea behind this channel is to use everything original, software AND hardware (meaning no emulation).

Great video! Really enjoyed it. The MSX has really impressive games! Games i wish i had on my system that time. The game-music really stands out. Great review :)

I remember finishing Kings Valley 2 when I was a kid (I don't remember how or whom I got the cartridge from, it wasn't mine, like all my MSX games back then lol), what a wonderful game, thank GOD Konami added a password to jump to levels. It would have been impossible to finish a very long 60 levels in one setting. Level 60 spans 6 screens if I recall correctly. The Castle and Castle Excellent took me years to finish it (very hard puzzles), in fact, I couldn't finish them on the MSX, I had to use an emulator on dos called BrMSX back in the 90s, before BlueMSX or OpenMSX on my trusty Pentium II computer. :)

It looks like you loved puzzle games :) Yes those 2 were very good ones. Obviously the password procedure was a must-have, just like for the Maze of Galious.

@@RetroDream One day I am gonna play Maze of Galious. I am restraining myself from watching walkthroughs on RU-vid. It is a great game. Thanks for the great video btw.

There is Konami controller specifically made for Hyper Sports, Track & Field and Hyper Sports games. No need to destroy keyboard when playing those games.

Nice video !! Cause this video i took MSX out from store closet !! I only noticed that the speed of gradius (nemesis) is a bit slower... Do you have a PAL model ?? The music sound slowly than mine here !! This is good !! Cause this game is very hard to play !!
@RetroDream

Yes!!! It's European PAL. Glad it made you play again

I always thought the MSX version of Nemesis was more playable than the NES version. The sprites on the NES were too big. Many of the early Konami sports games like Soccer, Tennis, Golf, Baseball were attempts to clone Nintendo's Famicom range of sports games

17:13 “Help! My bakery is infested with raccoons!” Of course, another in the long line of games inspired by phrases from foreign-language tourist phrasebooks ...
@RetroDream
@RetroDream 9 месяцев назад
Sounds like so! That said, the MSX version of Comic Bakery is WAY better than the C64 one, if you've tested it. It's ugly all the way, even with music which you wouldn't expect for sure. A disaster

The Salamander music (Operation Seedleek) didn't sound the way you've shown on an MSX. SCC was not capable of such sounds.

@@RetroDream Then it was a good deal. It's games look like C64 ones to me. However, business software wouldn't be any better than the C64's because of that 40 columns. Business software requires 80 columns (i.e. MS-DOS or something like that) if you as me.
@timoheinonen9570
@timoheinonen9570 Год назад
@@meneerjansen00 80 columns text mode was supported from MSX2 onwards. For MSX there is MSX-DOS, that is pretty similar to MS-DOS.
@meneerjansen00
@meneerjansen00 Год назад
@@timoheinonen9570 MXS2 (still 8 bit) in 1985 would indeed be a good competitor to MS-DOS back in the day. In my opinion that depends on the price and what the competitors could do. The Atari XT also came out in 1985 and it was 16 bit... If an MSX2 machine was much cheaper than that machine it would be a good deal.
@JesterEric

Microsoft withdrew support after MSX 2 because it was likely to become a competitor to the cheap IBM PC clone they were making so much more money out of
