I bought a home in Southern Oregon in 1986. Really happy that it is in an unincorporated part of the county (not part of any city or township). The nearest traffic signal is 10 miles away. Josephine county says that since it was built before 1970 (built in 1946, before inspections were required) means that it is grandfathered in-exempted from building inspections for most repairs I make myself. I paid $17,500 cash for the 1-1/2 acres view lot and improvements in '86, have done just a few repairs: new roof and electrical wiring. The assessor says it is now worth close to 200k. (at least that's how much they tax me for on it...). I plan to die here, and the county even issues a permit allowing me to be buried on the property! Don't overlook existing older properties in Josephine county, if you are coming here.
