I loved Laverne and Shirley watched every episode while it aired..I actually had the opportunity to meet Cindy Williams at a Comic-Con years back in Novi, Michigan and she was one of the nicest and sweetest people that I have ever met..It was my first Comic-Con attending my friend and I were in another part of the building watching an anime film..When it had ended we were walking down this isle headed back and I felt someone close behind me..I stopped then turned around to see who it was and it was Cindy Williams..I was able to chat with her for a minute, she was eating a sandwich and was able to get a couple of pictures in before she went back to signing autographs..Like I said, she was very kind and considerate and it was an honor and a privilege to have actually met her..🌹❤️😁👍
My brother and I watched it Happy days also. My brother passed away not long after in a car accident. 😢 He was barely 20. Those sitcoms bring back good memories from our youth.
My sincere sympathies on the loss of your brother. No amount of time can lessen the pain, but I hope you can cherish the memory of the time the two of you were able to enjoy this show together.
The producers could have saved the show if they had moved the cast to Indianapolis, Kalamazoo, Green Bay, ANYWHERE but Hollywood (where sitcoms go to die).
I agree with you it was one of the best shows of the seventies, another favourite of mine was policewoman with Angie Dickinson, still watch episodes on RU-vid.😊
Fascinating interesting video on the reason why Cindy Williams left the Show in season eight Laverne and Shirley is still a classic comedy Sitcom to watch
I remember seeing Laverne without Shirley, with a bunch of kids singing the intro in front of a solitary Laverne. It was one of the saddest things I'd ever seen.
Yeah not only that but Betty Garrett and Michael McKean left the show so it was only Laverne, Squiggy, Laverne's father, Carmine and Rhonda, but some episodes only featured Laverne and whatever guest star was on that week. It was a very much diluted show in the final season
I had always heard that the reason Cindy left the show was that she and Penny didn't get along. I did see Cindy say after Penny's death that they would get together at Penny's home, and watch movies or just hang out. It is nice that they were able to mend fences, if that were needed. I always watched L&S, as back in those days, only 3 channels, but I've never been a fan of physical comedy.
Why MUST PEOPLE ALWAYS TRY AND STIR TROUBLE??? Do your research before you comment!!! Cindy left because she was PREGNANT and during negotiations, they were trying to pin her down to an exact date that should would give birth SMH 🤦🤦 they were friends until the sad passing of Penny Marshall... TROUBLEMAKERS!!!
Cindy's last episode was season 8, episode 3... show ended at the end of season 8!! GET A CLUE!!! lolol and I wasn't even born, yet I actually watch their interviews, reunions, etc and that's how you find out THE TRUTH! NOT BECAUSE YOU "HEARD" 😂😂😂
This was a great show. They were hilarious. My favorite episode was when Lenny had a crush Laverne. It was very touching. I love the way she let him down easy and they remained friends.
I loved that episode too i thought laverne and lenny had great chemistry and i loved the episode when laverne thought she was pregnant and lenny was willing to marry her to save her reputation i thought that was a sweet episode too
I’m not sure I understand why they couldn’t film around Cindy’s pregnancy that doesn’t seem really fair to me. I pretty much lost interest after they split them up! In my mind it was like splitting up Starsky & Hutch. Both of the actresses were irreplaceable for the series. I hope Cindy got a new agent because it seems to me he was instigating their arguments.
jade blues, I agree with you that when the producers split them up, the show lost some of its charm. Although this isn’t an excuse, I have a feeling it boiled down to production costs: rewriting the scripts, redoing the camera blocking, rebuilding parts of the set(s), and bringing in new props.
Just heard that Cindy Williams has past away today ...Thank-you Cindy for the great memories of my youth watching such great and clean shows . God Bless you and keep you in his Love, Grace, and Compassion... You will be missed ...Love ya ...
LOLLLLLL!!! I was just about to write about this episode!!! My sister and I say "Please don't harass Betty" in the voice that Laverne said it on that mike....we crack each other up every time!!!🤣😂🤣😂🤣
I think they did physical comedy the best... I can remember a few episodes that made me really laugh out loud. One was the candy stripers when the girl's were to change the bed sheets for 300lb patient that is asleep. They end up sliding under the hospital bed trying to move the man. The other episode was the girls go on vacation to a tropical resort that is less than what the brochure said then to top it off a hurricane hits and the room their in starts to collapse around them, their writers were the best. One of the best tv shows ever made.
Loved them all x both ladies wow could we not have them shows back PLEASE .good family fun .WHERE DID THE FUN DISAPPEAR TO ,BRING IT BACK .THE WORLD NEEDS LAUGHTER. 😂😂😂😂😂
Never really got into this show, but I got to say the theme song is something that has stayed with me all these years, and is one of the best theme songs ever.
I agree with you Tom, my piano player Ed and I had a tiff or two over a couple of points, I argued that the Lennon sisters at one time sang a cut of the opening song that was used for a few shows maybe more but I cant confirm that anywhere and I have looked. The other thing is Ed says the song was written in the key of Eflat and I argued that it was written, sung, and recorded in the key of F. None of this is earth shattering its just some thoughts, anyone with real skinny chime in here OK?
@@tomb8430 Did you know that singer Cyndi Grecco recorded a full length version of the theme song and it was issued as a single and was on the charts!😉🙏👍👊
@@patrickrichardson1036 I swear there was a theme song for Scooby-Doo that never gets mentioned. It was the first one but there's always a different song that comes up as the first but it's not the one I remember.
I would have also mentioned that Cindy Williams appeared in “American Graffiti” (1973), alongside Ron Howard, who went on to play Richie Cunningham in “Happy Days” (1974-1984).
I can't remember my favorite episode, but the most memorable and saddest episode is when Lavern's boyfriend(Ted Danson) got killed in the line of duty as a firefighter. I was a young kid at the time and it made me sad the rest of the day. Still think about it from time to time especially when the movie Backdraft came out.
I just adored Cindy Williams. She was soooooo freaking cute to me. There was two episodes that I liked. One is the Christmas episode with the late Howard Hessman and Carol Ann Williams staring. The other episode is the one that ends with "Milwaukee Moon".
Loved Laverne & Shirley. To me, the entire cast were more or less equal because they all added a special something to the show. If one was removed, it would be noticeable to the point of it not being the same show. Example to this is Milwaukee, once the setting from there was changed to California, it became noticeable to the extent of ruining the personality of the show. I have to admit, though, that the removal of one of my favorite characters, Big Rosie Greenbaum, was heartbreaking for me. 😢
Penny Marshall in addition to be a good actress was also a good director. One of the movies she directed was "The Preacher's Wife" which starred Denzel Washington, Whitney Houston, Courtney Vance and Gregory Hines.
I loved the episode with Fabian and "Turn Me Loose." That one has me laughing on the floor every time. Brilliant. RIP Penny and Cindy. Much love. 🧡🧡🙏🙏 PS Another one of my favorites was when the girls tried to get extra money by participating in a sleep study and a food study. Then they went to a swanky event, Laverne sleep deprived and Shirley starving. Hilarious.
I used to handle insurance claims and had a very large one with one of the producers of the Laverne and Shirly Show. This guy was a World Class @ss Hole, and I mean World Class. So when they here talk about the fighting on the set and how immature the cast were I can't help but wonder if at least some of that came from the producers of the show and not the cast.
I watched every week for years - love it! Man we had some great TV shows in the 70s!! --- Have you guys seen Cindy Williams in a film named The Conversation? Gene Hackman, Cindy Williams, Harrison Ford, Teri Garr, Robert Duvall and others. If you haven't seen it - do it!! Tip: watch the film with the CC turned on because sometimes it's hard to heard all the recordings in the film of The Conversation.
The episode where they were candy stripers at a hospital and had to change the bedding from under a HUGE unconscious patient is some of the most hilarious physical comedy ever put on film. And i don’t know why but to this day i still find myself saying “It’s loouuunsh time. LOOOuunsh time!” I adored this show.
My favorite episode is when they had backstage passes to an Alice Cooper's concert, but still took time to play around at the bottle company with the theme song playing.
Thank You for all the research and work that you put into making this video! I love Laverne and Shirley growing up! But I was so young when the show was on television that I was not aware of things going wrong behind the scenes as maybe older children or adults would have been able to pick up on. Although being young the one thing that I will never ever forget and it will take me back to Laverne and Shirley until the day I die... 5,6,7,8....❤️
I watched it as a kid. I remember when 2 and 1/2 men came out and they showed Charlies house, I was like HEY that was the place they used to film Lavern and Shirley once they moved to California!
Awww ,I literally loved this show ,& used to always watch every episode & idk why but something maybe w their character's & that easier simpler time in life just always put a smile on my face & still watch a rerun any day of the week where was so Authentic & truly Classic
The episode when Lavern's portrait got shot, leaving a hole in a suspect location. Sqiggy stuck his finger through the hole, from the back of the portrait. Wiggling his finger, with THAT look on his face? Absolutely, hilarious!!! 😂😅🤣😆!
Great stuff. Remember the episode where they had to work a diner by themselves and Laverne kept using the pa to call Shirley by going “Betty Please…..”
I loved this show so much! Really great casting for Laverne and Shirley and Lenny and Swiggy. I love the episode where Lenny and Swiggy try out for a singing contest and Laverne and Shirley were the judges… it was very well written!
It's funny I come on here watching your channel then I go looking for the sitcom. I'm so glad I found Laverne & Shirley on prime!! So funny their chemistry is great. Sad to hear that it was so tumultuous onset though. You can't disagree with the results.
I love this show I love both of the ladies they'll never be another show like it my favorite episode which was very heartwarming and very devastating is when Laverne was going to get married to the fireman and the incident happened where he was killed that episode just tore my heart they'll never ever be another great show like this ever again
You know it never really occurred to me until watching this video that Laverne and Shirley was a lot like the Lucy Ball show! Loved them both growing up in the 70's.
I LOVED Laverne and Shirley . Their was one actor that should have been on more episodes that is ROSEY GREENBAUM .SHE WAS GREAT .only wish they had used her more
It was a wonderful to watch . Mom loved the ❤️👍🏻🥰the show Lavene& Shirley. , the Fonz show. All the show from 70 ‘s thru 80’s. My mom n I really 🥰 that show. The mom lol. When the girl went to California an earthquake started oh! My gosh. It was halariously funny 😄. I really do miss those shows n those 2 decades between show & Music. It Awesome 😎.
It doesn't matter about her pregnancy, she was still played her part well. They could have worked something out and her up and leave. She could have made out that she went on a trip for awhile to get away from everything, and she would be back in few months. It has been 35 years now so it doesn't matter. Some of the cast has passed , and they will be remembered.🤗
My favorite episode is where the girls (Shirley’s idea) take a modeling course throughs the mail and of course it doesn’t quite work out the way Shirley imagined it would. It was a hilarious episode as well as a sweet one. Love this show!
My favorite episode was when the Big Ragu got drunk and crashed his motorcycle into a news stand. I also liked the one where Squiggy and Ponyboy went on the run and then won the big rumble. Also the one where Arnold got kidnapped.
i liked the show as a kid, but dont remember many specifics, one episode that had me howling was when they were doing some sort of robbery with a truck. another episode was the first time i heard the word flirt, and my dad told me what it meant. for years after i thought flirting meant sticking your thumbs in your armpits and waggling your fingers
When I saw the movie, Spinal Tap, I recognized 'Lenny' -Michael McKean, right away. And since you pointed it out, I can see the Lucille Ball influence. This was a really funny show, sometimes we'd watch Buck Rogers, but only the first season of that, mostly it was Laverne & Shirley.
Hasenpfeffer is a traditional Dutch and German stew made from marinated rabbit or hare, cut into stewing-meat sized pieces and braised with onions and a marinade made from wine and vinegar.
Even as a kid, I noticed (when I first seen Laverne and Shirley on Happy Days) they were completely different people when they got their show. Laverne kinda stayed the same but Shirley was very different almost Nun like. My favorite episode was when they kept going back and forth asking if each other went all the way on their dates. They called it "Do-di-O Do!" "How dare you think I Do-di-O-Do'd! LOL!
@Lordcron True that's because it was hard for Cindy Williams to talk with that accent which she hated and wanted it changed! Garry Marshall agreed and he softned Shirley and she spoke without that Brooklyn accent soon after! 😉🤔😜👍
To be honest, they were only two episodes of Happy days before they were spun off. Their first appearance which introduced them and their second appearance which aired the same night as L&S premiered.
One episode that comes to mind is the one they are on the train and someone dies. Somehow they get mixed up in it. One very sad episode is when Laverne's boyfriend, Ted Danson, the firefighter dies. Laverne sits up all night waiting for him. He was going to propose.
Love lavern and shirley i remember watching it in the 70s great tv back then we put on the vhf or uhf then adjust the other knob at bottom to get good picture along with the giant rabbitt ear antenas of course
Sadly Michael’s the only one left. My 2 favorites are “the right to light “ & “ bachelor mothers.” Thank you for this. Cindy was my favorite & I’ll miss her always 😢
I always thought Laverne & Shirley was one of the dumbest shows of it's time. It was just stupid. I felt my intelligence was being insulted. Cindy Williams was really cute, Penny Marshall looked much older than she was.
It was what it was. Entertaining. There were "smart" sitcoms of the day, Mary Tyler Moore, All in the Family and then there were goofball sitcoms just to make you laugh, L&S, Mork & Mindy, Three's company. That being said L&S and Happy Days helped make ABC #1 in the ratings back then
Thank you so much for the informative and snack-sized video! I was too young to watch this when it first aired, but my parents talked about it all the time. They were always doing the “HELLO!” that, er, well, one of Lenny and Squiggy did. I have only seen a couple episodes but I stumbled on a compilation of the openings and season 8 shocked me. Cindy Williams leaving was one thing, but why in gods name didn’t they change the title of the show! “Laverne” or “The Adventures of Laverne” or “Laverne and Squiggy” or something! Audiences would have figured it out! Also I do want to laugh at the idea of Buck Rogers affecting ANY show’s ratings, because that show is one I HAVE seen and it’s dreadful… but what can ya do.
The series really went of the rails when the characters leap nearly a decade into the future having Laverne&Shirley swept up in Beatle Mania moving to the California of the 1960s. When this occurred at the start of the 6th Season both it and Happy Days were already over staying its welcome and what kept them on the air was watching more out of habit mostly. Happy Days ran for 11years and when its ragged end came even the actors were just hitting their marks for years just for a paycheck not much else. There might have been a 9th Season with Penny Marshall but part of her character go to New York so she would return and fortunately that debacle never helped because the well had gone dry as they say years before....
@@susand.3540 agree, but they hate to kill the cash cow. Seinfeld said, "Always leave them wanting more." Nobody, from politicians to showrunners, takes that advice.
I stropped watch after they had them move to California. It just wasn't good anymore. I liked Happy Days before they made Fonzie a main character. I watched it for awhile after that because I was a teen yet.
It is funny because Laverne and Shirley and Happy Days were originally on the same time line but when they moved to California they moved up like 2 years ahead of HD's timeline and there were no more crossovers. In their final season it was 1967 on L&S but 1965 on HD
