Today we’re going to talk about the top cause of artery calcification.
The body becomes more calcified with age. But, our goal is to keep the bones calcified and the other tissues from becoming calcified. A CAC test is a great way to determine if you have calcium in your arteries.
There are two types of cells in your bones. Osteoblasts are cells that build bone, and osteoclasts break down bones. If there are too many osteoblasts in your arteries, the arteries can start turning to bone.
There are stem cells in the inner tissue of the arteries that have the potential to turn into a certain type of cell, depending on what the body needs. If someone is developing bone tissue in their arteries, there is a problem with the differentiation of these stem cells-they’re turning into the wrong thing.
Sufficient amounts of vitamin K2 may help inhibit calcification. Vitamin K2 helps keep calcium out of the arteries and in the bones, making the bones strong. Your good bacteria make vitamin K2.
Causes of a vitamin K2 deficiency:
• A fatty liver
• Gallbladder issues
• Gut problems
• Not consuming enough fermented foods
• A low-fat diet
Foods rich in vitamin K2:
• Natto
• Sauerkraut
• Cheese
• Butter
• Kefir
• Egg yolk
• Liver
• Sausage
If you take vitamin K2 as a supplement, consider taking the natural form called MK7 and take it with vitamin D.

Over 8 months ago I had a CT scan for my heart and my results were terrible. Calcium over 250%, 99% stenosis etc.. I was morbidly obese at 280lbs. Have been struggling with autoimmune condition called Grave’s diseases. Had crazy palpitations that made me think I was having a heart attack. Had an angioplasty done and decided to take it seriously and look for ways to loose weight. I’ve been following Dr Bergs for the last 8 months and practicing most of what he’s been posting here. I’ve lost 80 lbs in 8 months and still loosing weight. Feel and look younger. I got to say thank you Dr Berg you have saved my life. It takes discipline to follow through but anyone who wants to live can do it. I’m now able to do OMAD multiple times a week along with keto and feel pretty awesome! Keep up saving lives! I know many doctors including cardiologist don’t have any idea of any of this and are clueless on how to really help their patients. They just pump you full of drugs and tell you not to eat red meats. They frown at Keto diets and even fasting yet I’ve lost 80lbs. I’ve lost my respect for most doctors.

My dad was diagnosed with calcified arteries and given statins and pain medications. After doing research I realised statins would kill him in the long run. So further research led me to studies where K2 was able to reduce up to 25% of arterial calcification in a short period time. So that's what we did. My dad started taking K2 supplements for many months and today he is perfectly fine and still working at his advanced age.

Regardless of what anyone says...he saved my life early this year when I was so ill, I didn't realise I was close to organ failure. I came out of bed every few days, feeling fit ,as a fiddle, ate my normal well balanced meals always topped of with a jar of home stewed concentrated fruit spread, made only from friut cooked in its own juice and the water drops from washing the home grown plums, apples etc not a crystal of sugar in anything. I'd top of these delights ,with semi frozen Greek yoghurt and next day, I'd be back in bed for 2 or 3 days. While up, on my good day, I'd watch a hallmark Xmas video or 2 and over a period of a month I noticed a particular video jumping out at me. I took no notice, as I felt it didn't apply to me...until one day I was a tad clearer headed and thought...I think my Guardian Angel is trying to get me to watch this jolly video. So I did,and immediately realized I had glucose problem from all the overdosing on those beautiful fruits I'd condensed down to such a degree, I reckon there were about 100 plums in each jar I consumed every day. I immediately emptied my freezer and did a walk around my village, giving away my second freezer full of those goodies...plus I began keto experiments over the next 4 month, went to an endocrine specialist, over 500 miles away n early May and had every test under the sun. She found to her horror my glucose tolerance test was off the charts...and was headed for pancreas and liver probs, followed by diabetes if we couldn't head it off. 6 months later, I've just come back from my checkup and she was shocked again. This time, I barely made the low end of normal for blood sugars and just crept into normal, on the low side for insulin levels, an hour after eating. She said whatever you are eating, keep on with keto, and doing your mowing, gardening, house repairs, chopping etc.It helps your muscle density and is good for your bones. And I'm over 80 yrs old...and am really very fit, and starting back jogging in Nov, after collapsing and being knocked unconscious for over an hour, with bad concussion in Mid August from sunstroke. His vids saved my life early this year...and I'm very thankful. Xx

I feel normal, had no problems, but see no reason not to continue eating keto for the rest of my life. The only thing is I need my bald spots to grow back! Wonder how much of this bullying of patients is caused by insurance companies. Does this affect the ability of the patient to obtain insurance and the cost? Just Thoughts....

I heard Co-enzyme Q10 supplementation whilst on statins can help if you feel you must take it. But there is little proof in the literature that statins help anyone. I spent 9 years as a cardiology research coordinator. There is a high chance of developing diabetes, brain fog, severe muscle problems like rhabdomyolysis etc. Doctors tend not to mention this. And a recent study showed there was a higher incidence of developing breast cancer from being on statins for several years. Everyone should make their own decisions but the research is out there to discover. Dr Berg's nutrition advice is good for many medical conditions.

I was prescribed a statin several years ago because I had high triglycerides. After 2 days, my muscles started spasming, I couldn't sleep, and was constantly nervous. I quit it after 2 days. It took over a year for my spasming to stop. Once there was no real evidence that statins prevent heart attacks or strokes, I decided I'd rather die of natural causes rather than have my muscles disintegrate and have massive kidney failure.

My CAC score was 1600 and that’s why I caved and started taking it. After 4 weeks of taking it, My total cholesterol went from 228 to 159! I eat clean most of the time, organic, grass fed, very little sugar and processed foods. At that appointment I asked if I can go off of the statin, the cardiologist answered me sarcastically, of course you can, but if get any pain in your heart, you need to go to emergency immediately. This scared me, thus I didn’t stop the statin until recently. I met with my PCP last month and told her what I was doing and can I get an order to do blood work. She resisted some but gave the order, said to wait 3 months after stopping the statin to do the blood work. Also asked about getting another CAC test, she said, oh no you don’t need it, it will stay the same. But then added, try to loose more weight and that may help. I’m saying to myself all this time, this is BS and have been continuously following you and a few other RU-vid doctors. Of course this story is much longer, but wanted to say how much you are appreciated. BTW, I’m 5’3” and 150 lbs and started getting back to exercising and doing the intermittent fasting.

Hi Dr. Berg.. I'm so glad i came across this information. I have a terrible combination of health issues that create a seemingly impossible situation for me to lose any weight to improve my heart or even health overall. Im 50 now and, aside from having lifelong chronic depression, anxiety and ptsd my constant stress/grief manifested itself about 3 years ago when i was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, degenerative disc disease/osteoarthritis in my whole spine, neck, shoulders, hips, elbows etc., atrial fibrillation (had an ablation after suffering a year which helped hugely), esophogitis from 25+ years of acid reflux disease then GERD which created a stricture and herniation of part of my stomach into my esophagus (I had two endocscopies: one which broke that up, and an exploratory for signs of cancer. Thankfully none.) Recently I had stomache pain and was told I have a fatty liver, and now, (because i have lung concerns with nodes) I had a chest scan which showed signs of calcification starting in my arteries. I made huge changes to my diet at the start.. no carbs/pasta/potatoes, only lean meat/fruit/veges, no dairy, more eggs etc, but I also have an eating disorder (which likes to beat me up along with my depression at the unfairness of it all) so I have still gained around 50lbs in the last 2 years alone. Not good. So now I am at a scary 250lbs. All I can really do, due to the amount of whole body pain and heart strain at even the slightest exertion, is try to go for slow walks every day. I started taking alot of vitamins (theraputic levels) years ago at the onset.. E for my heart, D3, B12 (doc recommended from the start), C, Calcium/Mag/Zinc. After learning of this recent calcification in my arteries I have been trying to find the right info for vitamins to change/add /suppliment my regimin. It all feels so hopeless and the whole thing about Vitamin D has been really confusing to me, but you have explained things in terms I think i can understand and trust. It has been really helpful so thank you.

Thank you for sharing, as all people's experiences are helpful to learn about. The couple things I see as a potential cause of your continued health/body weight issues is probably eating the fruits (too much fructose in your diet), and also eating lean meats. You need the animal fats! Eating the natural fats that occur with the meat is the way to go. ☺️ Bu sure to watch Dr Berg's videos on the ketogenic diet. Those videos will introduce you to it and important tips also. Take notes and read people's great positive comments about how they lost weight and greatly improved their health!

You are in a desperate place. I would suggest emphasizing intermittent fasting. Also in your eating window eat a meal lasting no more than one hour with an hour and a half in between. If you could limit yourself to 3 meals a day and no snacking things might start to turn around. For two of the three meals eat no carbs only fats, protein, and non starchy vegetables. Then for one meal, lasting only an hour, eat as you wish. Try to limit the meat/animal foods as they raise insulin. The other suggestion I have would be to go completely starch based vegan with no oil and no animal at all along with at least 12 hours of not eating at night. Dr. Jason Fung is another resource for the first method and Dr. John McDougall is the resource for the second. If you could just not eat at all for a few days at a time it would kick start your efforts! I love and recommend Dr. Berg but his way of eating might be too difficult for you until you get some of your emotional and physical problems under control. Then you can switch to Dr. Berg entirely.

At 67, my calcium score was 0. I am grateful for my father's genes. Yes, he had a HA but not premature at 86, and he also neglected himself all his life, drink and smoked heavily. Regardless of his bad life style, he tended to look younger, dr said his organs were in decent shape with a bit of cirrhosis, but at 86 and drinking? My grandmother, dad's mom, pass in her late 90s f rom a fall. I do not remember she ever visiting a dr and taking any medications, only OTC for headaches. She also smoked heavily and drank black/unsweetened coffee all day. She was active until her fall. His sister was 99 at time of death from lung cancer; she also smoked. Her death, however, was a peaceful one. The issue of diabetes comes from my mom's side. Luckily I was on time to reverse pre diabetes, and that's what I did. Otherwise, I have been extremely healthy all my life. No, I do not drink/smoke, I hated it since my childhood; that bad habit almost got us kids killed. Be proactive with your health, blessings!

Bruce Prigge that’s great to hear, well done and may you live a long and happy life. My husband not yet 60 has had two aortic valves replaced for a congenital bicuspid aortic valve problem. The first was a biological valve in July 2010, he became winded by 2012 and coughing (unproductive). His second valve (same reason) was done end of August 2020, only 2 yrs end of August he chose mechanical & they have him on warfarin, his surgery was done in England he’s already feeling out of breathe using the stairs. I’m concerned warfarin is causing a problem, he believes he needs it, I can’t find any information which doesn’t go with the pharmacological narrative. May I please ask if your valve is mechanical or biological? If you prefer not to answer that’s okay, thank you for reading my comment. Mia.
@bruceprigge5212
@bruceprigge5212 Год назад
@@msheart2 Hello Mia, mine is biological, it’s made from a cows pericardium. When I was doing research around the time I had the valve changed I read an article that stated anticoagulants advance calcification, that’s why I refuse to take them. I spoke to the medical people at the hospital were I had the valve changed, they said they had never heard of such a thing. Not surprising, they only know what the drug companies tell them. My aerobic capacity is below normal and has been since before the valve was changed but I don’t run any more so it doesn’t create much of a problem. I go to ‘Silver Sneakers’ a couple times a week and walk a mile a few times a week, the exercise part is very important, for me anyway. I live in Minnesota, USA, where the winters are very harsh. I have discovered that NOT doing aerobic exercise over the winter takes a very noticeable toll on my aerobic capacity. When I got back out walking this spring I could NOT walk a mile without a break. I stuck with it and within a month I was breezing through a mile without stopping. Body weight is also very important; any extra body weight really noticeably shows up as a low aerobic capacity. (Getting winded easily). Going low carb and now full on carnivore has really helped with the body weight. My surgeon, a lady with an Irish name, said that anticoagulants are very important with metal valves, not so much with biological valves.

Great video! You mentioned statins causing issues with k2, but also some blood thinners will too. It’s sad that the medicines that are prescribed to help prevent heart disease and stroke are actually setting people up for worse events in the future, as my father discovered.

Hey doc! Just got my first CAC. Only had a 2 in 1 artery....but I have calcified lymph’s in the mediastinum area. Will K2 help clean out lymph’s too? Hopefully. Thanks for your answer!

I am beginning to like you more and more. I have been critical of some of your videos although i find when I piece all of yours together we seem to be on the same page. Remember how important K2 is for your detal health. Perhaps they might want a video on that, too! CHEERS! :)

I am so grateful for your videos Dr Berg. I have learned so much from you. I have made a lot of changes in my life in the last few years and you have been such a huge influence. Your ability to explain the functions of the various systems of our bodies is second to none. Keep up the good work my friend. So many golden nuggets in everything you say and your calm laid back voice is easy on the ears as well lol.

Good info, thanks. Boron should also be considered as it regulates the parathyroid gland which in turn regulates the levels of calcium & phosphorus in the blood. Also, don't forget the importance of magnesium in affecting bone (& teeth) density.

Okay two questions. I have a "benign incidental" shadow which doctors think is a calcification in my liver. I had my gallbladder removed 9 years ago when we learned it was basically all stone. 1. Besides the vascular system, does k2 also help remove calcium from organs, like the liver for instance? 2. Is there any way to 'decalcify' your organs and arteries, or is treatment only preventative?

What about eating food with calcium in it ,yogurt for instance? Do they contribute to harding of the arteries? What similar food should not be eaten?

Dr Berg is there a relationship between calcification and vericose veins/chronic venous insufficiency?

A few weeks ago I started to follow the keto diet and stopped unhealthy snacking. I must watching this video makes me realize how unhealthy I am. I have all the symptoms which suggest calcification of arteries. Since I started doing 4 exercise 2 times a week I feel a little better. But the symptoms of calcification are still present as you can guess. I eat only 2 times a day now and I try to avoid sugar as much as possible. Olive oil is part of my diet daily and 2 or 3 times a week I use lemon juice or apple cider vinegar. Vegetables are also part of my new life style. Fennel tomato cucumber are regularly in a small salad next to proteins either from sardines eggs or salmon. Cheese is also part of my new diet. I'm actually in doubt about raw honeycomb and raw milk. What's your advice on those 2 foods? Also is royal jelly good or bad it has many nutrients but for some reason causes bleeding in the colon. Could you make a video if you have the time about these last mentioned food items: raw milk, royal jelly and honey comb with the honey still in it. Would appreciate it very much. Anyway thx for all the tips and good advice you're a life saver.

If you can have access to A2 raw milk, its best. It has the enzymes to digest the milk. Heating milk kills the live enzymes.
