I recently had one of my most pleasing moments ever in tarkov: a pistol run on reserve where I met another pistol runner and, with the janky voice lines, we communicated our intent not to fight but to team up. We ran around the map together looting and took down a geared PMC in the process. It was epic. Having voip and a karma system, as described here, would make these moment so much more common. So I'm all for it.

I feel like tarkovs movement system is pretty good though, its just that everyone who complains about it tries to play the game unrealistically, like fighting on steep slopes and expecting not to slip, shooting while sprinting, trying to aim higher than your spine should allow while proned especially when you have a mechanism or trizip bag on your back, trying to stand on very thin metal rails on the stairs of the 2nd floor of big red in reserve, trying to hold your gun at ADS for far longer than should be allowed with low ergo, trying to carry 2 times your body weight expecting to be completely unaffected by it, trying to hug the hard cover and then complain about the gun aiming up instead of forward when the length of the barrel is clearly trying to avoid clipping issues with the surface in front of you (which is why running with smg's is far better due to the shorter barrel) instead of just blind corner firing like the game intended you to play it. @@chloekaftan I'm pretty sure that insurgency will kick your gun away if you try to aim right in front of an obstacle, you can't sprint for long periods either, because you will be slowed down and for a period of time your aim will be fucked, you can ADS forever but you already have your gun at the ready position. insurgency while retaining realistic characteristics simply does away with the bars which I think it would benefit tarkov. @@mammedthn What I mean is that technically things like dropshots are realistic, even if they're not good in video games because of the way animations work (not good as in, not balanced) also ADAD is NOT realistic because it would mean you have no momentum. But IRL if you come upon someone around a corner your best bet if you're not already on target is to do some kind of sudden movement that places your center of mass far far away from where you were just a second ago, which might give you time to aim and shoot while the other guy might miss.

The best part about these "the game's not made to be easy" people is that you found the response... under a video instructing people about ammo They aren't learning it the hard way Nobody has learned ammo in this the hard way, because it is impossible to do so We all looked at a chart on the wiki, or other information provided by no food after midnight, and watched some videos on youtube. Ya know, we went through abstract "training" that our PMC would presumably already know most of if it was ever relevant. Considering BEAR and USEC are literally both meant to operate undercover doing shady shit in the streets with presumably often smuggled and locally procured equipment, it's not irrational to think they would already understand what gear is and isn't worth using.

The issue with the realism argument that makes me disregard people who make it, is that people only use realism as an argument when its convenient and supports something they support. They never apply it consistently. Also thank you, the people against VOIP drive me nuts, cause long story short, don't like it? Don't use it. Other players shouldn't have to curtail there ability to have fun with a feature just cause you don't wish to utilize it. Also to the people who say, "Oh it ruins my immersion!" And? How is people spamming voice coms over and over again yelling obscenities and blasting their rifles while spamming the middle finger not the same? Don't see people demanding to remove that.

Adding an option to disable VOIP is a must, there, no more people complaining about VOIP
@p4nnus
@p4nnus 3 года назад
I disagree. I use the argument in certain regards, for example the ballistics and movement, weapon handling should be quite realistic. Not "The Matrix" realistic but way more realistic than what we have now. And were gonna get way more realistic features in these matters, for example the inertia system to prevent ADAD movement and the armor plate mechanic to make armor way less tanky. I can also understand that there are gameisms. Those are needed too for balance. Its just the fact that BSG promised combat simulation in EFT, even with very strong words like "uncompromising realism", "as realistic as possible" and later on changed to "as realistic as playable". This is why theres so many people who use realism in their arguments: it was literally promised. Anyways, for example the argument Veritas has about how its unrealistically hard to distinguish enemies from friendlies kinda has a point, but its almost like saying that we should have killcam to combat cheaters! Even as we dont have enough ways to make ourselves stand out from enemies (YET), ways like clothing options, voip, etc, doesnt mean that we need to implement something that immediately makes the game way easier and less realistic, less immersive too. Here he forgets the intention of BSG: it is completely intended that you need to communicate all the time to keep track of where your friendlies are. So yeah, it can feel like the realism argument is only brought up when its convenient and Im sure that people do that too, but IMO its more about people understanding that certain things are not as realistic as possible, for example not having to take a shit or not having problems with ones teeth, because thats not a part of the game, nor was ever meant to be.

Veritas, the spreader of truth and giver of perspective. Keep up the great work and don't let yourself be discouraged by certain comments. It's important to bring the point across and give adequate examples, even if that makes your explanation lengthy. In the hope that this reaches someone who is interested, I would like to add something in regard to cognitive dissonance. I'm not a psychologist or therapist, it's just my experience having to work with this type of thing on daily basis. As a quality engineer for a major software company, it's my task to understand what is going on with our customers in the field, our internal R&D and production processes, sales and aftermarket support. Then to provide feedback and direction on all levels of the company. Logical reduction ( even to the point of absurdity) is what people do as a ( defensive ) reaction to cognitive dissonance. I would argue that reduction is a consequence of cognitive dissonance. An extremely simplified example would be: "I'm so great, I deserve to have a girlfriend. It must be due to my greatness that girls think they don't deserve me." In relation to video games and movies, people tend to simplify and reduce the aspect of what causes them cognitive dissonance to a simple argument. "It's too realistic" or "It's not realistic enough". In reality, people don't really know what "reality" is. In fact, most of the time they are discussing "hyperreality". ( I'm referring to " Simulacra and Simulation", "Hyperreality" and Jean Baudrillard ). An example of that would be: We can all picture an alien, or what it would like to be in a plane crash. Even people that have never seen an alien, or been in a plane crash. This hyperreal representation is what is presented to us, and this "bleeds" into our our belief of what "real" actually is. In movies and video games, these hyperreal representations are sometimes there intentionally, to avoid giving people the unpleasant feeling of cognitive dissonance. They are addressing our common belief and expectations. In a sense, I believe this is why pure fantasy or pure fiction are appealing to so many people. Mixing real and hyperreal elements, causes inconsistencies, which cause unpleasant user experience and feelings, in term caused by this cognitive dissonance. Not only in general terms, but this happens in very specific aspects as well, as pointed out by Veritas. From design ( f.e missing features ) to development ( bugs ) to .... Cognitive dissonance is in fact very important. Just like pain ( that signals you there is something wrong physically ), this dissonance tells you there is something wrong with our understanding, interpretation or expectation. Instead of ignoring it or "reducing" it, we should try to understand what is causing it and fix the root of the problem. Big respect for your work. Thanks Veritas.

I could imagine VOIP making an even more immersive experience. It could actually help with identifying your teammates. Imagine you're walking around in raid together, talking with each other via VOIP. You can hear each other's voice directionally, and based on distance. If you're constantly communicating in game, you would better be able to understand where each other are. And a little UI element to identify each other is a nice suggestion. It could be something as simple as a white dot, like what you see when you're looking at loot. That absolutely has to be in the game because you often can't distinguish between actually lootable items and props. The same goes for PMCs. Not everyone would have the exact same gear on, and even if they did they'd all be of different stature. Just like you said, maybe it doesn't appear at a certain distance because you can't identify them from that far.

I'm not really good at trying to express my self so i might just sound confusing , and if that will be the case, just know that know that thanks to what you said and explained , helped me find a way out of a big personal issue i had IRL in the last few months, so reguardless of the game or whatever people might think or say to and about you, THANK YOU SO MUCH for indirectly helping me shift my point of view and in what ways i could resolve and confront the issue . A random guy thanking you for helpoing in unrelated problems that don't really concern you probably won't mean much , but i still wanted to let you know that this video helped me immensly both in game and with a heavy irl issue. Hope your eyes are better. Love from Italy ♡

Hey bro, i really appreciate the juxtaposition between the virtual firefights of tarkov vs the ones in real life. while one tries to replicate the other, you did an amazing job while not having any combat experience, explaining the harsh reality of what combat really is. great content my man!

Every single one of these bring me a sense of elation. You and your mind are beautiful blessings upon the EFT community and you are my favorite content creator. Amazing work as usual, you had me cracking up with the astigmatism and gingivitis comments. Using the memory skill for a small center of mass marker might be a cool addition. If your friend swaps his gear during a raid and you haven't made contact yet you could lose the marker and so many more intricacies like that.

I think one of the most interesting themes you're touching on here is the balance Tarkov has to strike between predictability and unpredictability. Part of the brilliance of Tarkov is that when you hear a step it could be a scav with a pm, a 5 stack of mega-chads, or anywhere in between. The ability to put you in unpredictable situations keeps each raid feeling like a new story that's worth experiencing and even sharing. BUT just like you've mentioned in many of your videos, there are plenty of instances where you expect things to go one way, they don't, and you end up frustrated. So how do we separate unpredictability from inconsistency? How do we remove all the Norman doors without making Tarkov a stale and predictable experience? Which systems need to be simplified and which truly add to the core of the experience? There's so much to explore with the future of Tarkov and what it means for the future of gaming. Each of your videos helps us get a bit closer to appreciating the complexity of the task BSG has undertaken and the importance of what they're trying to create, so thanks for that.

A subtle indicator for that friend that likes to push too far ahead of the group would be beautiful. Late wipe when it’s either altyn or doesn’t matter, we’ve run untar helmets with new players so that quick identifying of a teammate is easy and can change the whole outcome of a firefight. Great video as always!

Duuuude when you brought up negative karma giving you stats to make you more like the cultists was my favorite idea. That would not only give some amazing features that would add endless amounts of hours of gameplay, but also really increase the world’s lore. Fantastic video man keep it up
@HPG45
@HPG45 3 года назад
Keep up with this video series, all these criticisms are valid and, given how BSG has been listening to you and others, will only make Tarkov better. Above all else, I hope the netcode is altered to diminish desync, sound is GREATLY improved, and we're given an FOF ID system. Cant count how many times peakers' advantage got me (holding angles IRL is advantageous), how many times I've given position away simply by ADS (even in full battle rattle does no one make that much noise), and can't count how many times I've accidentally wasted teammates.

Well I like these longer video essays, they are thought provoking and interesting. As a long time tarkov player I've seen it change substantially from when I started playing with new maps and guns, new game mechanics and biggest of all the flea market and I still enjoy it. I've allways enjoyed the hard core experience of Tarkov and the points you touched on would be a cool addition to the current game and if you don't like it turn it off simple. I could go on but this series has touched one some excellent ideas on how to better the game as a hole, unfortunately the Tarkov community has a loud minority of people who make them selfs heard weather you want to hear them or not. Out of the group of people I regularly play with most of them agree with the points you've touched on in this series and think they would be great for not only actually playing the game and not playing shopping simulator but also creating more interesting in counters during raids. Great vid and looking forward to the next Churr

I've only just started playing Tarkov, and Veritas is already my favourite content creator. The amount of detail and well considered thought in every video is beyond impressive. I absolutely agree with all of the points made here. The most annoying aspect of Tarkov at this moment for me is the inability to positively ID a friendly player. This has lead me to only play solo after getting TK'd so many fucking times. The VOIP and karma score ideas are beautiful. The chance of betrayal and prospects of success when working together is what made DayZ in it's early life so good. Thanks for such a killer video man. Nice work.

Great video and very thorough, especially your argumentation about VOIP changed my mind on this topic to some degree. I always thought that a good middle ground would be to create some kind of voice recognition which then fires the respective in-game voice-lines depending of which keywords you say into microphone would be a good solution in keeping with the atmosphere of the game (also this would make those voice-lines much easier to use during firefights and thus they would occur much more often in player to player interaction) would've been a good middle ground, but your arguments about VOIP also definitely make sense. Maybe we could have both and depending on each players preferences they could decide what they want to use.

One thing I've seen from a VR game of all things to indicate teamates is that they have special markings on their gear. (From Ghosts of Tabor) A blue markers on their vests, and a blue glowstick on their belt. It does still leave decerning friend from foe to YOU, but it still gives a way to tell it is/isn't your buddy that you yourself need to notice in game. It's entirely ingame, no special floating markers or set delays and the like, but it still feels like a HUGE deal especially since EVERY character model is identical aside from gear.
