Thank you for not leaving us out of the fun lol. I had other types of headaches when I had to do the subframe on my E46 M3. But After it was all done I no longer had the nightmares of the whole car cracking in two and tearing apart. Plus the new Bushings are sweet. The only problem I still have is the "Jack Rabbiting" when I'm over stimulated and take off from a light in a straight line. My "11's" look more like "Follow the Dots" and it shakes the car like King Kong is walking beside me. Unless I'm drifting and have the car going sideways or do an intentional burnout starting in second gear. Then the wheels are spinning so fast it's smooth. Keep the content coming gentlemen. I go into D.T.'s if it's too many days between videos. LOL.

Great to see you are getting the rear end on the M5 sorted Dave. We need to see it back at roll racing. It will be interesting to see how much NVH you get from these bushings. I had a bad experience in the past when I had all of the bushings in the rear end replaced with Superpro bushings. The noises that came from the rear end were unbelievable. I thought Fulcrum had destroyed my diff with the noises and whining it made but it was just the bushings transferring the noise into the car. Fulcrum tried different rated bushings without success so I replaced the rear subframe with another which only had nolathane subframe to body bushings and M3 front diff bushings. All of the noises disappeared. I hope your experience is better.

Great to see some content on this again Dave, I also installed those poly subframe inserts but on my E60 535d, which granted probably has much softer bushes than an M car, but made a huge difference without affecting the comfort at all. Where it used to feel really disconnected from the car the back end just feels nice and stable now.

I'm thinking the solid mount might be a mistake. Given that mount is a known weakness, to then re-enforce it is a good idea. But then stuff a solid mount in and you just push all the forces into the subframe mount rather than letting the bush do its job and deflect. Hopefully it works out but I fear that'll do more harm than good.

Generally from what I have been told any movement in it leads to an issue. I don’t like solid mounts which is why I went poly in the back. But let’s see how it goes.

The only job the bush has is to absorb the NVH, not the forces...any slack you remove from the driveline and the suspension is excellent but the car becomes less comfortable

Yeah correct. And I don’t know how, but the man that makes these mounts says if you only install this on a stock car and leave OEM rear mounts it is a not noticeable increase in nvh 🤷‍♂️ and will also stop the front mount from braking (as I’ve got more power than stock I didn’t want to risk it) and people do say putting the poly rears in does make it worse but again, I’m going to be driving this thing so happy to loose some plushness for extra strength with the rear polys

I ended up braking the rear diff mount on my e39 M5 also. But the rear subframe is NOT model specific. I used one from a 530 and its the exact same thing. Had it reinforced as well and installed the same solid metal diff mount bushing too.

You can use a non M5, however, The M5 has one extra alignment adjuster.

The regular E39 subframe can easily be used in a M5 and the only difference between the 2 is the M5 uses 14mm lower rear Control arm bolts and the regular E39 uses 12mm bolts . The 14 mm holes are elongated for alignment adjustment but 10 mins with 14 mm drill bit and you can use a regular E39 subframe in a M5.and only 2 holes need to be drilled out . The unicorn egg I am not a big fan of because i broke 2 subframes with a unicorn egg and one subframe was reinforced . With the unicorn egg you have the weakest point of the subframe the front mount that is solid mounted but the rear of the diff is still going to flex up and down especially with the stock bushings . I ended up purchasing a bn subframe from Bmw and getting it reinforced and used powerflex black bushing for the front and rear of the diff and the 4 subframe mounts ,zero issues with a hundred launches using Nitto drag radials

Was aware you can fit them. But they are different. And heavens for bid if these get much more valuable I’d hate to not have “right” one. Probably should have used a normal one and put this one on the shelf in hindsight. Keen to see how it lasts with this setup. Spoken to a few owners running it which is why I went that way.

My concern is mixing a solid diff mount with poly ones. One has no deflection and the other two has some. Very little. But some.

My thinking is the solid blunt mount had less chance of snapping or cranking the mount. Not just to build momentum in the front and snap if, but still have some give in the back to absorb the energy. We’ll see how it goes. I don’t like solid mounts for a daily.

@@ZeroTo60Tube I mean that the solid front mount will have no deflection meaning that the slight rear deflection will transmit to the front mount which is solid at this point and thus putting pressure on the new welds. I'd go solid on the diff and soft on the subframe for less NVH. But I don't want to be the armchair mechanic lol. BTW I have solid motor and transmission mounts from turner motorsport on my daily N54 135i. The Vibration isn't bad but it is louder as the whole car basically becomes a speaker for the engine as it's now become fixed to the body.

I thought about it but a few people said they’re too stiff and too much nvh (especially combined with solid front mount ) so I’m hoping this is still stiff to drive with but doesn’t add too much extra vibration and harshness

I would be a little worried with mixing mounts like that, it will create bending force on the front mount when the rear mounts (tries to) flex?

@@ZeroTo60Tube I only used delrin mounts, so i don't have any experience of my own with mixing mounts with different stiffness really, but it just feels wrong. I'm using delrin in my E82 both for the subframe and diff, same on the E30. We are three guys in DKGEcu, I'm one of them yes :)

@@nissejarnet Ahhhh man you are a legend, figured you had something to do with it. The DCT is on the cards for this M5 when the manual is finished. With 310,000k's on it, im not expecting it to forever and i love the DCTs. Have you linked one of your controllers to a S62 stock DME by any chance? I am assuming torque reduction and throttle blips on downshifts are going to be an issue.

@@ZeroTo60Tube Sorry i missed this replay. Not to a S62 stock DME, but a few E46 stock DME cars. Yes there are a few issues with stock ECU cars, but there are a few workarounds we tried that work decent :)

The standard e39 subframe can be used. Don't overthink it. The M mystique is largely marketing.

I can’t remember exactly now but it’s one of the adjustments. The m5 has it and the 535/540 were non adjustable
