Japan has been a developed country longer than Korea and their men are still on average shorter than Koreans. So I think genetics definitely has a large role in this. It's not just the change in diet or increased nutrition.
japanese people had a surge in height a few years ago because they have been eating meat and the new generation are short again because doctors tell pregnant mothers not to eat much to stay thin. So yeah more diet (especially pregnant mothers' diet) are more important than genetics when it comes to height.
I’m Korean but grew up in the States. My family in the States are taller than my older relatives in Korea so I think potential growth can be stunted by lack of meat or what not. My teenage Korean cousins are all tall though.

Koreans did get taller over time because of better nutrition and better living environments since the Korean War and Japanese colonial times. I think way back before all that Koreans were known as the taller Asian race
Koreans were only shorter than the Japanese during colonisation. Prior to that we were always taller than them on average. I wonder if being from a hit climate affects one's height? Japan does have a much larger area with warm to tropical weathers.
@@sara.cbc92 Exact it all nutrition. We can't say truly who is the tallest Asian because majority of Asian countries are still developing. I'm Vietnamese American, I'm 6 feet tall. Why? Better nutrition compared to my Vietnamese counterpart in Vietnam.

@@user-to6mh8hh5e5’7 is not tall. There are going to be plenty of people taller than that. No lie, but we have multiple women here in the US taller than that. My old friend was 5’7 when we were in 8th grade (13 years old) and she’s a girl. My brother is 5’7 and I call him short (mind you I’m tiny at 5’1 😭😭). I’m not hating or anything. It’s just to be considered tall by others in the West, you have to be 6’ and over for men. I don’t know the height we consider tall for women though. But it might be 5’9 and over because 5’6 is average for women here. So it really is no surprise for Westerners to think Asians, particularly those in the East to be short. But they do have plenty of tall people the same way hundreds of years ago we had tall presidents when our average used to be around 5’6-5’8 like George Washington and Abraham Lincoln (but they were tall even by today’s standards so they were giants to people back then lol). Another thing I’d like to add is that most people we see would probably be around 5’8-5’10 for men and probably 5’2-5’4 for women. It’s usually tall people, not average people, who hike the average height up. So even if we see a lot of tall people in the US, most of us aren’t really that tall anyway. We’d be matching with a lot of people around the world unless we actually meet people whose heights are really small or really big. Our perspective on “tall” has to do with how often we see the height. 6’0, despite not being average for us, is still very common and for someone like me in the black community, I don’t really see it as very tall myself despite my short stature. I see it as average. Sorry for the long talk 😭
It is not just in Korea but around the world that height is considered an important factor in appearance. It is true that Korea is particularly sensitive to height, but not all short people are crazy enough to perform the costly surgery, which takes more than a year to rehabilitate. It is very, very rare to find someone around who has performed such a surgery.
I’ve been living in Japan for 5 years now, and I recently visited 3 cities in South Korea and I was blown away at how tall the men were compared to Japanese men.
@@MK-hw2irdoctor. They start young at 8 ish. They do a lot of that in Korea. They have it in the Us too. I was concerned about my tiny toddler and his doc said we can do hormone growth at 10 ish. But she does not recommend it.
Northeast Asians tend to be taller than Southeast Asians because of genes. But nutrition determines whether or not you reach your height potential. Genes explain Koreans being taller than Vietnamese even if they grow up in the same environment. But at the same time, nutrition explains why South Koreans are taller than North Koreans. China's height average is dragged down by their southern provinces.
You can't forget the effect of artificial selection. Whereby Korean women may choose taller men because of the perceived economic and social advantage. There may also be factors such as a less rigidly stratified society and more social mobility where marriage age young people have a wider pool of potential mates. As single women gain economic independence, they may not be limited to a certain clan, village, class or ethnicity for their partners. Casting a wider net in search of other desirable characteristics.
When I lived in South Korea, I saw a friend who was in elementary school getting injections of growth hormone. The procedure was performed for therapeutic purposes because the friend was too short, and because it is useless once the growth plate is closed, very few people do it starting from high school students. And, except for cases of short boys, most South Korean men do not receive growth hormone injections, and in most cases, parents who are worried about the future of short boys try to do whatever they can. Living in South Korea, I have never seen a single person around me who has had surgery to increase their height. It is difficult for most people to attempt because it costs tens of thousands of dollars and puts them out of work for at least a year.
It depends, can be a lot more. But it can only be done when growth plates are open, so basically only on young kids. And doctors are reluctant to let parents experiment on kids out if vanity, it is actually done to address problems doctors agree with. E.g. in northern Europe a boy that is projected to be shorter than 155 can get medical treatment from the government.
I am tour guide from spain, and yes! South koreans are tall compared to other asians, I would say similar to us spanish or italians, at 175 cm average men, young ones at 177 cm. Greetings from barcelona!
I live in California, with a great deal of various Asians where I am, and Korean men very much stand out as being very tall. It's hard not to notice. I have been to multiple Asian countries found a lot of Japanese men to be quite tall there as well, so it just might depend on where you are specifically. Most of the asian women are very short here. I wonder if you are more likely to get oppurtunities abroad if you are taller as a male, but it doesn't matter so much as a female. I suspect that korean woman have selected the taller men over such a long time, that those genes are now more prominent in the general population. Also the "Jesus Christ Korea, C'mon! 😂 he has the voice of a comedian!!
That's weird. I'm in California, as well, and the Korean men are, on average, 5'9". That isn't tall, for men. Chinese, Japanese, Filipino and Vietnamese men are about the same.

yeah I Believe they are breeding out their short men by the ladies choosing taller men to procreate with. Also the society emphasizes so much on looks and outward appearances so they will weed out the undesirable traits that their society don't like. Koreans protest over GMOS and are conscious of processed food. They use a lot of beans, which help people grow without getting fat. Heavy meat diet but balanced with so many vegetables.
@@xgfreedom Of course there are processed and GMOS foods, but its not staple. And the few whose staple foods are unnatural also look unnatural and are considered ugly. American people were beautiful before the GMO processed takeover. And taller. Americans are getting shorter these days. There are some really tiny American dudes. American women complaining that the men are too short is actually founded on something.
I honestly don’t get the hype over GMOs. All our food has been genetically modified. I mean, we aren’t eating the same corn Natives used to eat. And other countries have their own versions to adapt to their ecosystems. And foods naturally change over time, for the better or worse. Processed foods have been proven to be bad for health but GMOs have no proof whatsoever. Eating a watermelon without seeds ain’t gonna kill you. Also, “before GMOs” as you say, Americans were significantly shorter. So this is irrelevant to the conversation about diet and height. This is a better discussion for diet and health. Not height
@@lavoniaholloway1245 We're not eating the same corns as past Native Americans. Their corn was multi-colored or white. Corn was the first GMO produced, starting in the 70's. There is a nice documentary about it called 'King Corn' (2007). There are plenty of instances where GMO food has lead to sickness. The 'golden rice' that corporate groups tried to infest the Philippines with is a good example. It didn't just get farm animals sick, it killed them. But this won't ever be presented by corporations as 'proof' or 'evidence'. So people like you who depend on command words will just believe what you're told. The body is a whole. You have to consider any whole if you are going to assess anything. It is established in records that Americans were taller. 6'0 was very normal in the last century for men. 24" waists were common for women. You can find these government records if you're curious enough. You're thoroughly manipulated and don't know it. It's enough to look at any media from the 70's and earlier and even see differences in facial structure, as well as the rest of the skeleton. I won't bother trying to convince you any more than this. In the end, this is good for my future children. They won't have much competition. I'm all for everything being legalized and people free to partake of it. This creates an environment where the strongest and smartest come out on top. I'm Gen X and wasn't raised on GMO's and processed. And I've witnessed with my own eyes the de evolution of Americans over the decades. It's very sad. But hey, if they don't care I don't care either. But I do try a little to spread awareness. Sean's voice is so beautiful. Just saying. I'm 5'11". I was told I would stand out cause of my height in addition to, well being Black. I was so not the tall one. Well amongst women yeah but a lot of the men were my height and taller.
As a 181cm (5'11) South Korean, I'm tired of hearing people in the US say they thought Asians were short. East Asia is the region with the highest average height in all of Asia. My grandmother and grandfather tell me I'm tall, but most South Koreans don't recognize me as a 'tall person' even though I am above S.Korean average height. When I was in high school, I was the 5th tallest out of 28 students in my class (at that time, classes were separated for girls and boys), and there were one friend in my class who was over 190cm (6'3) tall. Whenever I belong to a group in South Korea, there is always at least one man taller than me. Japan has created a good image of East Asians in the West, including craftsmanship, diligence, work ethics, and law-abiding spirit. As a fellow East Asian, I think I have benefited a lot from the image Japan has created. But if there's one thing I resent Japan for, it's that one of the few negative Asian stereotypes they've created is that "Asians are short." Japan has been recognized by China and Korea for thousands of years as an exceptionally short country in East Asia. However, this bias appears to have been created because Japanese people were the first East Asian introduced to Westerners.
The men in my family are around your height and taller to 6" 2. Japanese were indeed relatively shorter than Chinese and S.Koreans. This was due to lack of dairy and red meat only consuming fish. It's less to do with genetics. Now many Japanese are tall.

Caffeine and what else? My guess is that you didn't grow to 6ft tall while barely having enough food to eat or while eating scraps. Sure genetics plays a role but there's a reason that wealthier people tend to be taller and it's not just genetics.
Koreans have racially different origins from the Chinese, Japanese, and Mongolians. The ancestors of Koreans originated in the Maritime Province, where Vladivostok is located in Russia, and moved to Manchuria and then south to the Korean Peninsula. They are called the Yemaek people. The Yemaek people lived in the cold Siberian environment and inherited the DNA of being tall due to the influence of the environment. This is the same principle as why Scandinavians are tall. Today's Koreans are a mixed race of the Yemaek people, who migrated south from Manchuria, and the Samhan people, the indigenous people of the Korean Peninsula. According to historical records, the average height of the original Yemaek people was around 180, but today, as people become mixed-race, their height has actually decreased. The Zhonghua people originated from the central part of the Chinese continent, and the Yamato people originated from the archipelago, so the origins of the three kingdoms of Korea, China, and Japan are different. According to historical records, Chinese people are of medium height, have a convex back of the head, and have many hand gestures and showy movements, while Koreans are tall with a slender body and walk around with their hands in their sleeves with hunched movements. In addition, it is written that Japanese people are short, have sharp eyes, and have restrained movements, while Mongolians have thick bodies and look strong. There is no difference between what it actually looks like today and historical records. Therefore, the tallness of Koreans is due to the genetic influence of the Yemaek race.
Goguryo is Chinese and Buyue territory. It has nothing to do with Korea. Stop spreading lies on your travel brochures. Korea only 2 kingdoms Baekje and Shiet-La lol. Both were conquered by China. Cry more ^^
@@sara.cbc92 Goguryeo and Buyeo used the Altai language. The Chinese are originally a southern people who speak Thai-Austronesian. These are the 中華 people. When Emperor Qin Shi Huang unified China, the Northern Han Chinese emerged as the mainstream of China. 漢族 and 中華族 are actually is not same ethnic. 中華族 are more close to southeast asian. and 漢族 are more close to northern asian as like mongolian and korean. So, Han chinese are branch of yemaec or mongolian. Buyeo-Goguryeo was mostly absorbed into the Korean people as it moved south throughout its history. And, some Yemaek people migrated to Shandong Province after the fall of Goguryeo and clearly formed part of the Chinese people. The Chinese boast that the people of Shandong Province are tall, but in fact, their origins are Yemaek Koreans.
0. The average height of Koreans is similar to that of people from Southern Europe (e.g., Spain, Portugal, Bulgaria), Western Asia (e.g., Iran, Turkey, Israel), and African Americans.
1. While the average height in South Korea has rapidly increased, it has stabilized around 175 cm. Currently, it seems that 175 cm is the average height for South Korean men due to genetic factors. Historically, North Koreans have had a taller average height than South Koreans, suggesting that with adequate nutrition, North Koreans might potentially have an even taller average height than that of South Koreans. 2. Growth hormone therapy is not commonly used. It is effective and covered by insurance only for patients with growth hormone deficiency. If someone has normal growth hormone levels, the treatment is not covered by insurance and is not medically effective. Typically, growth hormone therapy requires a treatment period of at least one year, during which outdoor activities, such as school physical education, are significantly restricted. Additionally, for children with normal growth hormone levels, this treatment could weaken their bones, potentially leading to scoliosis and thyroid dysfunction, which is why doctors generally do not recommend it. The cost of growth hormone injections is approximately 20,000 KRW per kilogram of body weight per month. For a child weighing 25 kg, the monthly cost would be around 500,000 KRW. The total cost for one year is around 10 to 12 million KRW, which means about 20 to 24 million KRW for two years. For elementary school children weighing around 40 to 60 kg, the cost would be double (40 to 70 million KRW). Considering South Korea's per capita GDP of about 44 million KRW, growth hormone therapy is not economically feasible for most families unless they are very wealthy. 3. The average height is simply the sum of the heights of all individuals in a group divided by the number of people in that group. My height is about 183 cm (6'), and I often see people around me or on the streets who are as tall or taller than I am. This is true in any country. The average height in the Netherlands is 182 cm, and while my height would be average there, I still saw many people taller than me when I visited. 4. Many South Korean women believe that the average height for men should be at least 175 to 177 cm. In other words, heights below the average are generally not preferred. 5. The average height of the younger generation in China is 169.7 cm. This data is the only reliable source directly measured by the Chinese government, whereas other data are either not directly measured or have unclear sources, making them unreliable.

They have always been different when it came to height, males and females in North and South Korea are taller than the average in Asia. But if you look at newer generations in other parts of Asia, they got taller than the previous generations. Same in Africa, especially in the North (Egypt, Morroco, Algeria and Tunisia) they're way taller than their ancestors. I think with new medications and nutrition have affected human growth overall.
North Africans aren't Africans but Berber (Amazigh) and Arabs with their ancestry from the Levant. I am of Southern Ethiopian ancestry and was born in Norway, which is probably the richest country in the world in terms of GDP per capita, boasting the best and most convenient lifestyle in human history. All the native Norwegian males I grew up with were all above 6 feet tall by the age of 16. As an African, we often mature early. I reached my full height of 6'3" at the age of 17 and haven't grown any taller since while most my Norwegian friends are taller than me; I am now 35. The Gen Z's in Norway are probably even taller, with heights of 6'5" and 6'6" built like Erling Haaland is very common However, this hypothesis doesn’t hold in Africa, where most countries are developing countries. While some of these economies are now among the fastest-growing in the world, the vast majority of Africa is still far below the socioeconomic standard for a decent life. Yet, Africa has some of the tallest people in the world. In South Sudan, one of the world’s youngest and very poor countries, males are often 7 feet tall, and every woman is above 6 feet. In Rwanda and parts of Uganda, you have ethnic groups like the Tutsi and Hima, who also exhibit extraordinary height 6,,3 to 7,2. These countries, especially Rwanda, are becoming wealthier, but these groups have had this crazy height throughout history. The main factor that influences a person's height is their DNA. However, other factors can influence how tall a person grows during development, including hormones, medical conditions, nutrition, and more. Scientists believe that DNA is responsible for about 80% of a person's height.
@@nassergabriel4778 North Africans are Africans. Even the name "Africa" is of North African origin and originally applied only to a specific region in North Africa, the Roman province of "Africa", which roughly comprised the territory of modern-day Tunisia, the northeast of Algeria, and the coast of western Libya. Only much, much later in history was the meaning of the name "Africa" expanded to cover the entire continent. The Neolithic Middle Eastern ancestry of Berbers, and even the Medieval Middle Eastern ancestry of African Arabs doesn't make them any less African. Even the ancestors of modern Europeans didn't arrive in Europe until the Neolithic. Does that make them not European? Also the fact that most African countries are still developing countries doesn't mean that people didn't grow up eating nutritionally replete diets. Traditional African cuisines tend to be quite nutrient dense. Genes certainly play an important role, but so do diet and sleep.
It's geography and nutrition, Northern countries have taller people. Northern China also taller than their counterpart from the South. South Korea economy has contributed to it.
Getting surgery to increase their height is a ridiculous rumor. Probably by Americans. Northern Chinese and Koreans are taller. After occupation and post warthe people were tremendously malnutritioned. But if you look into its history, Koreans are just adjusting to their normal height.
Height is directly related to consumption of red meat like pork, beef and lamb, other "nutrients" have little impact on height. Red meat consumption has increased drastically in Korea for the last 30 years. Japanese are much shorter because their diet contains mainly fish and chicken. You can see this playing out in China too, were people in wealthy urban areas tend to be taller than in rural areas where their red meat consumption isn't as high.

@@starfox300 Nomadic lifestyles often involve mobility and physical activity, such as herding animals and traversing varied terrains. Regular physical activity during childhood and adolescence can contribute to overall health and potentially influence height. Also, there's a common observation known as the "Bergmann's rule" that suggests animals (including humans) tend to be larger in colder climates and smaller in warmer climates. This concept is often attributed to the idea that larger bodies retain heat better and are thus advantageous in colder environments. So, yes, Mongols were taller Asian people.

There is a comment saying that the average height in China is taller than in South Korea, but that is incorrect. It is true that the average height of regions in Northern China, such as Huabei, Dongbei and Inner Mongolia is similar to or slightly taller than Korea. For example, the average height in Beijing is 176cm, which is 1cm taller than in South Korean average. However, Souther China such as Huanan, the average height is less than 170cm. For example, the average height in Hong Kong is 169cm, and in Guangdong Province it is 168cm. So, the overall average height in China is around 170~173cm, which is definitely shorter than in South Korea. In some RU-vid videos, it is said that the average height of all of China is 176cm, which is taller than South Korea, but this is incorrect information because it is the average height including only Beijing. Average height varies depending on latitude, and China is so large that average height is meaningless in the first place.
Id reckon that it’s their fluffy hair that adds an inch or two to height, so they appear taller than they actually are. Also, they have a much more meat heavy diet than the Japanese. In particular, mothers had an average of 158 at the time, but given that they were 167 or higher, I think they are more likely to receive key genes from their mothers. For example, my friend who is 188 is mother 173 father 168. My sister is 178 years old. Anyway, if it's nutritional, if it's at least a small part of it It's hereditary. Especially my mom has to grow up.
stoping polishing korean image,,korean are not the tallest in east asia,,chinese are,,, accroding to the world renowned medical magazin "lancet" , they did a study of height of people in the world aged 19 in 2018, chinese has achived the biggest growth, more than 8cm, at 175.6cm, the highest nation in east asia...
Excluding the region around the far north-east in China, which used to be part of the old Manchurian territory and also the territory of Korean Goguryeo, it's necessary to discuss. In that area, with sufficient nutrition, people have the potential to grow as tall as modern Koreans. However, I agree that, excluding that area, China tends to have an average height shorter than that of Koreans.
Loving this account tbh. Thank you, dear sir. ^^ Hope you are doing well... P.S. My dear friends.. Asia is not JUST China or Japan or Vietnam.. just sayin :)

The Dutch are the tallest people in the world on the "average" today, Netherlands is the land of the giants. But in the mid 19th century, the Dutch were among the shortest in Europe. Over the next 200 years, the Dutch grew exponentially and became the tallest in Europe and worldwide. How did that happen? They gradually became a developed country, with that came a ton of consumption of "dairy and meat" for their children, and selective mating(marrying tall partners, I've heard this from Dutch people). Marrying tall partner doesn't guarantee their offsprings will become tall particularly if one is short, but proper nutrition with heavy doses of "dairy and meat" has consistently and scientifically shown to increase growth if introduced early. Similar to Korean kids, with their country's economic development, they were introduced to western "dairy and meat" diets into their children since the 80s. If you look at modern Korean cuisine, they add cheese into everything nowadays. That's the reason for Koreans being on the taller side in Asia. In another 100 years, at this trajectory with continued diet of "dairy and meat", the Koreans will become giants as their height gap amongst other Asian countries will continue to increase......but they have a huge problem with their low birthrate which is way more important to increase rather than increasing height.
Selective mating...? So why aren't other countries? For example, if tall men and women are seen as attractive, every country should be. Personally, I think Bergman's Law is more relevant than that. The north (lower temperature) is the bigger the body, whether it's animals or insects. In addition, the northern part of Germany, Hamburg, is the largest (average of 186), and people in the northern part of Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and so on average are over 183 in height. In the first place, the ancestors of the region were often tall, so there is a high possibility that the country has continued that way. However, the reason why it is different from 100 years ago is immigration policy and nutrition problems. Because it was a history of war, it was not an environment where genes could be displayed.
@@user-ir8fz9on5u You just cherry picked "selective mating" and disregarded everything else I said? You make it sound like that's the only reason why the Dutch are ranked the tallest in the world by statistics from my post. Cherry pick much??? 🤔🤔🤔 If you read my post carefully or perhaps reading comprehension isn't your strength, I said that's what I have been told by some Dutch folks. But I also said that doesn't guarantee offsprings will become tall by mating with a tall partner. Did you even get that part??? 🤦🤦🤦 The point of my post was about both the Dutch and Koreans attribute their growth in height to economic development that brought forth better nutrition and particularly "dairy and meat" which was also introduced to Korean children's diet since the 80s. "Selective Mating" didn't carry any weight in my post, but you're trying to make it sound like that was the point of my post. 🤦🤦🤦

According to recent reports in Hong Kong media, the average height of Chinese men is below 170 cm, even lower than the average height in Vietnam. Northern Chinese individuals also tend to be shorter in stature
that growth hormone has an effect on one's height it has to be taken while one is still a child aka the bones growth plates have to be open still. Also growth hormone is extremely pricey... However it is a great therapy for people who suffer from a few various disorders

I am half korean and i am a 173 girl. i grew up in the netherlands where everyone is tall. But there is a big correlation with (unhealthy) eating promoting growth factor hormone; for netherlands it means dairy and milk. i don’t think it is particularly healthy to gain height by this means. It even revs up cancer, i don’t mind people being tall though since i work in fashion, but the reasons most people in both countries are tall is cos their diets are unhealthy af. filled with sodium, oils and sugar and processed junk. it’s really sad
During an episode of a very popular Korean dating show, I AM SOLO, it was mentioned that most Korean women these days prefer men with good physical stature. In my opinion, that means taller and broader shoulders in general.
I'm French and I have French-Cambodian and French-Vietnamese friends who are between 172 and 175 cm tall. The shorter one had a sedentary lifestyle, didn't do much sport and ate very little, was always skinny and still is today, while the other is active and heavier. I think genetics has an important role to play, I have friends from West Africa who were born and raised there and are studying in France. Some are ~185 cm and others ~170 cm. Their countries are poor, but their heights are still decent.
All poor countries have a wealthy elite. It's generally the children of that wealthy elite who go on to travel and study abroad so they end up being taller than average. The science seems pretty conclusive that if you can't get ample nutrition as a child your growth will slow and suffer. It's also fair to mention that many parts of the world will starve the daughter to feed the son which means that sometimes even poor boys get enough food to grow.
I have read reports that the average height of young Chinese men is already the first in East Asia, genes are only on the one hand, nutrition is on the other. The nutritional conditions of Chinese people born after 2000 are the best in history. For example, I am 19 years old and 188cm tall in Shandong Province (the tallest province in China, which is the small triangle on the right side of the map of China). Shandong Province has always been the highest province in China, plus the nutritional conditions of children after 2000 are a little over the standard, and the height of 180cm+ is really insignificant (in the crowd will not see you at a glance), so I think China will be the highest height in East Asia in the future❤
@@RabbitInsane-mb1xg A 2020 report in the medical journal Lancet says Chinese people have been gaining height in the past 30 years. People in general are getting taller. Japanese people born between 1975 and 2000 are on average much much taller than boomers and the old generation. Most important politicians are in their 60s so they were born in the 60s, a 5ft 10 politician is a giant, that’s changing gradually. In 20 years, most Jp politicians will likely be around 5’8 to 6ft. Look at business people at major companies, high salary dudes, they are huge. Most of them are 5’8 to 6’2. a lot of business guys are 6’5” albeit rare but at every giant company there’s at least 3 employees taller than 6’3”. Young generations are tall too. A high school kid in the 1980s was around 5’6” but nowadays they are 5’9 to 5’11”. I’ve lived in a lot of Asian countries but only went to Korea on Vaca. Koreans are a bit average taller than Japanese but not by much these days. My Japanese friend’s son is 6ft 2 and my American friend’s Japanese classmate is 6’5”. I know a Japanese girl who’s 6’3”. Again rare but not as eyecatching as 20+years ago. most young boys are 5’8” to 6’1” probly.
The previous generation in Japan are not boomers, Japan experienced a population boom much sooner than the US, Japanese boomers are pushing 90 now, if they're even alive
Personally I am attracted to tall men, I am 5'6, but it's like good looks in that it gets you in the door, but once you begin to converse it's about depth. If the person isn't Intelligent, conciliatory towards others, reliable, educated, well read, funny, and goal oriented it's a hard pass for me. Prince was short I loved him, so is Michael J. Fox two good looking highly intelligent and creative people. A person can be "Vertically Challenged," and still walk away with all the girls in the room. It's about the person. Thank you for doing video, I learned a great deal.
It is only pointed out that people take everything for granted is another lack they have. Therefore taller than others is just another score for rate, everything is scarcity
*CORN* ... The secret is CORN. It's been enhanced to grow faster, taller, bigger, larger, and Koreans eat the most corn out of every other Asian. I'm short 5'4. All my nephews are 5'10 - 6', they eat a shit ton of corn and they're second generation in the US. I always say it's corn because my friend who owns and does farming as a business definitely tells how much corn has changed over the decades that he's been in the business. The corn is genetically changed to grow faster, taller, bigger, and larger. You're welcome.
Everybody is a nutrition expert now on this video, lol. Height needs genetic predisposition in addition to nutrients. Just ask an expert if you are really interested in knowing which country in southeast asia has a chance to have a taller average. That guy was funny : geez come on korea 😂😂😂
Korea is going more in the direction of the Dutch and the Germans. The height of the next generation should be interesting; should be quite tall; lets see what happens with a few generations of healthy diet and abundance.
Or let's see how closely their fate is tied to the US. We've seen a recent boom in heights in the US too but we're also staring down a potential recession and a lot less will to play world police and buy as many foreign products. I'd imagine height outcomes would decrease in Korea if the North and/or Chinese started another Korean war and the US refused to help. Just like I imagine height outcomes will decrease in the US if people can no longer use credit to give their kids high protein diets.
I do think that some unnatural procedure might have made a difference. For exemple most of mens in South Korea are taking pills to stop men's genetic baldness and also get hair transplantation procedures but they'll never tell you they did that, it's common but men's are really proud of being a "masculine and better looking" man without had anything done since the competition here is really a thing not only between women but also between men... I'm not sure that only eating better made them change that quick, and also let me tell you that most of koreans are still shorts, the tall ones might be the ones who tried this and that to get taller. In my opinion it make sense and there's proof and news articles about it. I'm not hating or whatever I just think that we shoudn't be too naive in front of korean's apperance features etc... celebrities dare say they didn't get any plastic surgery but they almost all redone they're all face and for the most modest cases they just "retouched" one or two things to "harmonize" they're face and call themself "natural" it is sad and i think unfare for truly natural koreans not looking like celebrities at all and hating themself for not "looking good". I really wish to Koreans to love the natural korean's features and embrassing themself with more authenticity one day, not tomorrow obviously since I see here that it"s getting even worst and worst but one day I hope✨
I'm mid 30s, 179.7 cm height KRN man. When i was in military service, i'm 50~60th tall among 150men(15Rx10C company). The most tall row was consist of men of (186~193) height.
I totally agree with you. I am Korean American and while going to school noticed Vietnamese kids born in the U.S and the kids that immigrated from Vietnam had a huge difference in height.

Has to do with more exposure to sunlight (vitamin D) and calcium. South Koreans exercise more compared to other Asians in that region and that contributes to the development of bones and muscles. Asian men who grew up in Western cultures are bigger and taller than the ones raised in Asia for that same reason. Easier access to cheaper, abundant nutrients and gyms. The same goes for Africans like the interviewer.
I work in healthcare. There was a time we had a nation wide SHORTAGE of growth hormones. Apparently, many people in Asia were ordering them to help with height. The height isn't organic. The favorite being Norditropin
That demand comes from people who are genetically small. The example described is a child that was getting growth hormones and a surgery and is still just 175. Koreans are massive, both tall and bulky, so someone small there is at a natural disadvantage.
There are many women prefer man with personality characters and kindness they does not mind how short or tall the man is , Korea men are of course beautiful and handsome in the world compare to other countries .The same for many man would like to meet women with kindness not just the beauty …beautiful characters always outcast the stupid beauty…
I heard that the nutrition did help them to grow in height, but the part of their body that counts for some, if not most, women did not grow at all. I heard that for some of the men, it shrunk. That’s just what I heard while living in Korea. Not sure how true it is.
Japanese are still the shortest amongst east asian because natural selection, opposite to Dutch, a nation of men prefer tall women to marry, some 5'8 5'10 japanese girls I dated during high school all told me being tall in japan for a girl put you on the bottom of the ladder in dating scene. I find Northern Chinese to be the tallest on average, even taller than American and Europe. City like Dalian and Shenyang where most female are between 5'7-6'2, kid you not edit: brah, why's the 6'1 dude taller than that 6'3 dude?🤣🤣
The guy that said that korean women are shorter than the men. Im not surprised, I mean they are talking about eating nutricios food and exercise it helped Korean man grow taller( I think genetics plays the biggest part if not all) while women are depriving themselve from gaining waight and exercising just to comply to korean beauty standers. Maybe that's why women are shorter than the men in korea plus genetics.
I think it's bc of all the Asian countries, Korea is the most obsessed with dairy products. LOL.. As an Asian-American myself, I was the only one that liked milk growing up so I drank it all the time. Needless to say, I was taller than my mom at the age of 9 and pretty much a head tall than everyone in my class of non-Asians. I think it's their cheese obsession and milk coffee? HA! I remember first watching K-Eating Shows and I was like I thought Asian ppl were lactose intolerant! Why are they eating so much dairy products?! 🤣All that cheese to offset the spicy made them grow. Even China and Japan are considered "Well-developed" but they don't really do dairy either.

Koreans seem to boast of being a few centimeters taller than the Japanese, but their physical ability is low. Japan has more medals in this Olympics. In football and volleyball, too, Japan is nurturing young talent, while Korea is not.

Interesting take but the thumbnail is major cap as in 183cm is def not usual and the interviews are clearly cherry picked to showcase really tall men in SK. I'm 175cm and I swear I'm like just as tall if not taller than many South Korean men, not to mention women which most are around 160. The only tall south koreans I see (178+) are in kdramas and in Gangnam cafes lol. But I do agree they are taller than most asians yes, although, not 5cm taller on average. That's a huge exaggeration. I don't like when these street interviews always focus on exceptions and exaggerate shit. Same with relationships and all that. And it's weird because K Explorer has said himself he doesn't like that at all yet he does it very often. I guess viewership does dictate direction of your videos in the end regardless of your personal take. If you want to know the real South Korea, just come to Seoul. Don't listen to any of these videos and see for yourself. Talk to people yourself. You'll realize a lot of these videos don't showcase the reality. These videos just showcase a slice of what Korea actually is about. Edit: some people don't understand what common or average standard is. Being 180+ in Korea is being very tall even for korean standards. If your average korean is 174-175, then anything above 178 is literally on the tall side. My problem with the video is that it extrapolates the 1 in 5 korean male to a standard, which it isn't. And they do so with everything else not just this. Creating a false image of what Korea is on the ground, Seoul included.
Ofc korean average height is not like 180cm. I agree with you. but 175cm is very common in korea honestly. Also 178+ is common coz 178+ korean is 25% of all.korean man so it's quite easy to see

I’m 183cm barefeet. In Tokyo, peak Shibuya crowded hour, I felt pretty tall. Once in a while I saw a guy taller than me or my height. And mostly they were foreigners. In Seoul, in crowded subway trains, I always saw a couple guys in 185+ range, and maybe 3-5 guys 180-183 range. But I still felt tall. In crowded alleys walking around town, I still felt noticeably taller than average, but not the only tall guy around. 180+ guys you’d see sometimes and 185+ guys rarely but surely. Hence I think this video showed a select strata of very tall men and extrapolated it to mean something unusual. Korean men are tall for sure, average must be 173. But at 180/183 you’ll still be noticeably much taller than average. Albeit not alone. And never the tallest guy in the vicinity. And that’s like most cities in the USA I feel. PS, one more thing. As I can attest from my Korean friends, insoles are rampant. And so are shoe sole sizes in Korea. My Korean friend who’s 178 barefeet looks my height in shoes, thanks to his generous insole usage. And he says most guys use them haha
The insole thing is so true hahah, It's very common for sure and then instead of saying their real height they say X height and exclude the fact that their shoes are adding a good 2 or 3 inches.
