I had a lot of confidence at some point. however during the past year, due to a multitude of factors I have been losing my confidence. So it's also important not to forget that confidence is a finite resource that you collect over time. But it can also run out. However once you have had a lot of confidence it becomes easier to understand it as well.

Maham Waseem I understand your feelings and how hard it can be for someone who has social anxiety to hear and think about putting themselves in such hard situations in order to help themselves... but I think that this fear is just a consequence of your main problem which is anxiety... something like it is only in your head! I Even hear of psychotherapists doing this same type of therapy like putting the patient in situations that make them inconfortable in order to make them comfortable.. of course it takes time and hard work but it’s worth it... hope everything gets better with you.. you can do it

@@sandraguessasma4065 I'm not completely denying this quote. Yeah, exposure does help but with proper CBT. If someone is cured by just throwing themselves in social situations, then I believe that they must be just shy or they had very mild social anxiety. Because i would do a task daily but i would still suffer and still panic. You think I didn't try to fake it? Well, you're wrong.The more I try to fake it the more my anxiety worsens. This quote makes people think "Oh, she doesn't even try that's why she can't get over it". That's why I couldn't get help from any professional because of people telling me to " Just fake it" Or "just get over it". Thankfully, I didn't lose hope and tried self help courses on youtube and read some books. Now I am slowly trying to expose myself in social situations and I did improve. Now atleast I don't cry for a whole week because I didn't function well in a social situation. I hope you understand😊

What a waste of a precious opportunity to act like someone you’re not, and you’re letting everyone miss out on the real you. I have struggled with the same problem from my early teens. What I have realized is that I lacked belief. I had no clue as to who I was and who I wanted to be. And even if I had known who I wanted to be, I probably wouldn’t have had the confidence to stand by my beliefs. I had to hit rock bottom before I said enough is enough. I tried to be a little bit braver each and every day. Every failure was a lesson I learned from. When I finally moved away from my hometown and started making new friends at college I realized that the people I had met would not judge me for being me. Thanks to them I have grown a lot this past year. They have made me realize I am worthy of love, happiness and respect. It’s something that takes time and there will be a lot of growing pain. I try to be honest with myself, spend time with myself, respect my own physical and emotional boundaries, and stay true to the vision of who I want to be. Now I simply treat people the way they treat me, if they don’t like me for it then that is not my problem. It’s theirs, they need to have a closer look at themself’s.

@sutemati

Natalí Llabot Its actually much more simple. We should seek to go back for a lower way of thinking.. because what is the purpose of thinking way to much and be so advanced in your thinking that you cant live life properly anymore? Isnt that somehow how you could imagine it to be poisoned? To be forced to think too much? The question we should ask ourselves is what is the poison. And maybe also that is something much more simple and basic than it seems in the beginning.
@sutemati
@sutemati 4 года назад
Maybe this intelligence is nothing good at all but something really really bad for us. If we ask ourselves what is the reason we are so intelligent? Is it because humanity consumed something for a long period of time that is passively „poisoning“ us? Like sugar? Or wheat? Or drugs like cocaine and the influence people taking it have on the society? Or is it even magic mushrooms if you beleive in the „Stone Ape Theory“ (Paul Stamets)?

The German word for self-confidence is "Selbstbewusstsein". Interestingly enough, this word literally translates to self-consciousness (Selbst = self, Bewusstsein = consciousness). Maybe this could mean that confidence comes from a place of consciousness - knowing who you are, knowing your worth, what you can do and what you can't.

I start to be aware of all the damage I have done to myself after many years of taking the easy road, of fearing what could go wrong, what people would think of me. @@xavier7438 the best analogy I can give you is "you can bend it but must not break it" We can always get better as a person but we must accept the way we are. Jordan Peterson says we should interact with our opposites to learn something and adapt from them, introverts with extroverts and vice-versa, agreeable with non-agreable. You must know yourself and draw the bondaries of what you are confortable or not, that will give you the confidence to say no to an unconfortable situation for example. The true challenge is knowing yourself and understanding why you do the things you do.

Have dreams and goals, pursue them. Wake up early in the morning, be in control of your day, plan your day hour by hour, set up small goals or things you need to do for the day, write them down. Confidence for me comes from discipline and being in control, and also from achieving small goals daily. If I wake up at 5 am, I know I wake up to chase my dreams. If I wake up so early it means I control my life, hence it gives me a lot of confidence. And when you do it everyday, you never feel like you lack confidence, and even if there are those rare days, you know that if you wake up at 5am and get on your goals, you'll be good again. That's what's been working for me. Also, the rule of 5 seconds - if you're afraid to do something, count from 1 to 5 and just do it. This thing is a huge boost of confidence as well. Makes you feel like damn, nothing bad happened, so next time I can do more and more of "scary" things. For many years I also had insecurity talking with women, but once I started doing what I wrote above, boom. It's like coming up to a girl is just another "scary" thing I do that in the end is actually very cool and enjoyable because women are pretty and sweet :)

Hey dude, I hope you are doing well, I read what you wrote and it’s quite true but not 100%, I had the same definition that you have on self-confidence one day, but I reshaped it with time, and the thing is that life is mostly unpredictable, and you can’t keep up with doing the hard things every single day for the rest of your life, everybody is not ‘THE ROCK’ so what happens is when you fail, you lose your self-confidence related to the wins, and everytime you fail getting up again, you keep doubting your self confidence, and it may last for a long time. The point is, don’t put high standards, the real key to self-confidence is to be real with your self, to really know who you are and what you are capable of, and to match the way you think and process things with that. There’s a lot to say about this, but all in all, it’s not external as nathan said, the key is to be realistic, and chase authenticity, hope I helped.

@@solo4real Hey man, I wasnt talking about super hard things lol I was talking about small things like read a book, go buy shoes, go for a run etc not necessarily super scary. Areeb FaheemT There’s no singular purpose. It’s more like asking yourself what could I see myself doing? For instance, I am an idea person, artsy, but also I like to understand the logicalities behind why things work...so my path is to combine art and science together, to inform people in a simplistic way. My purpose is to understand information and relay it as well as to teach others to be more open minded. Ask yourself who you are. Your purpose is abstract, so you are never tied down to one thing :D

I think humans are complex, and multi-faceted! We do not have only one skill or one ability, we have diverse ones. Therefore, it may not only be about finding one purpose but, exploring many things that exercise your talents and also step out of your comfort zone and discovering other abilities. With that, you have confidence because you know and believe in your value and you work to add more value. It's like investing in yourself. Any thoughts?

📝 *S U M M A R Y* 👇 Nathaniel thinks that one of the most attractive characteristics a person can have is self-confidence. Confidence can make anybody more attractive. It is about the source of High Vibration energy. EXAMPLE Book mentioned: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Here Nathaniel pretends... um, sorry! Here Harry pretends to give Ron a potion which gives you good luck. It worked as a placebo and it gave Ron confidence. There are some people that radiate a level of well-being regardless of how they look like. Taking action is good for you. Don't spend time in your own head. People are not paying attention to the small details of your personality. Nathaniel's own self-confidence comes from multiple pieces. The first one is _Belief_ Confidence comes from his belief in his abilities, ideas, systems. He is confident that he can solve problems. We have to find ways to trick ourselves into these cycles. The second one is _Well-being_ Accepting yourself, your body, the person you are. These two are interconnected. There is not easy starting point. Like Ron, you do not actually need the _potion_ but only need to trick yourself and placebo it all the way. You do not need the alcohol, the drugs, the stimulants. Focus on yourself. _END_ Thanks for reading! If you enjoyed this, maybe I can tempt you with my RU-vid channel: ru-vid.com I post videos about mental models, rationality, noticing confusion and overall productivity. I also write a weekly newsletter you might enjoy. You can think of this as a caffeine jolt of not just inspiration but also of tactical advice you can use. kbottle.substack.com/welcome Have a great day ahead!

I just wanna say this, Nathaniel. The videos you make are genuine and true to their definition. The content you make inspires and motivates me and it makes me want to do something much more in my life. I generally feel really crappy when I wake up throughout the most of the day and it makes me feel like I don't wanna do my tasks and let me be honest, I DON'T. I just load my task to the other day, next day and then the next one. Then everything gets so tense that I feel depressed and I know that it's my fault which makes me feel down even more. But when I watch your videos and I focus on what you say, I actually get some quality knowledge about the world. I wonder how can I apply it to myself, I can't. I have to learn it through my own experience but by keeping the sayings of yours in my mind, makes it easier for me. Thank you for this amazing content. I really appreciate it. The one thing I've learned from the life is that "Happiness isn't something what we want all the time. We've to appreciate who we are. That's happiness. Appreciating what we've and being grateful for it is the happiness." Another thing I learned was when I was sorting our my dad's stuff after he passed away a few days ago. I found an amazing piece of advice, "Start with what you have and where you are." I feel like it's changing my life. The belief, confidence and well-being just made it into a full book of treasure worth more than any wealth or fame.

i go through high and low seasons with my self -confidence, right now i'm in a low season (i would love it if you made more videos about this!), but weirdly if i pretend to be confident, it gets the same results as actually being confident, so even if i don't feel it, i still push myself to act in a confident manner (hold eye contact, share stories and opinions, be relaxed and playful) so people in general believe i am actually a very confident person 😅😂

TLDR: Picture what your confidence self would look like and start showing up as her/him. Okay...so for me what worked was reverse engineering.... Self help books were not helping at all. So I actually saw people in day to day life and decided to mimic their actions. That girl who didn't fit the societal standards of beauty but oozed confidence, she made sure that people remember her as the girl who will make anything magnificent just by touching it. She took project after projects and delivered more than what was expected out of her. Every single time. So I did that. Even the smallest jobs or projects, it was my mission to present the best damn finish product anyone had ever seen. Soon, the shy image was replaced by a girl you could rely on when you wanted perfect results. Sure Instead of 7 hours I was sitting in front of my computer for 9, but it made me feel so good. That guy who didn't give a damn about what people thought of him just because he liked to take care of his skin and looks, helped me realise and that if I don't give people the satisfaction that their taunts affected me, they will eventually back off. So I wore that dark lipstick to that meeting. I wore that dress to the beach. I took back my writing and worked on it. They teased initially but when I didn't let it show on my face, they stopped too. Eventually it stopped bothering.... Confidence is a skill which can be worked upon. May all of you who read this comment realise this and become the very version of yourself you always wanted.

As my dad put it, self-confidence comes when you do what you say you will. The more you do the things you say you will do, the more confident you will be, because you will believe that since you've done it so many times, you can do it again. Self-confidence declines when you don't do the things you say you will. Also, once you start doing, you will do things that will improve your well being, and the positive, upward cycle begins. You say you will do something, then you do it, your self-confidence goes up, you feel better, you are more willing to do what you say you will, and then it goes. All we need to do is find a way to build and keep the momentum and keep the consistency.

i've always been called "confident", even when i'm not exactly feeling like i am, and i think the real key to having it be just a natural part of you is trusting yourself more than anybody else. so yes, belief is important - you have to believe that no matter what happens, you still got you. i would say the tough part is the distinction between arrogant and self assured - which one can struggle with. ideally, one would be able to grow enough confidence to fill the others surrounding him/her with it too. people need people, and being humble, able to say you're wrong when you are and still feeling okay is, i would argue, the truest sense of confidence. so - bit of both, the fun part is the journey of becoming it.

For me at least, it is not only what I think about myself, but also finding the relationships that build trust. If I have parents/family/friends that I can trust and who trust me and love me not for what I do but for who I am, then I am grounded. I have a foundation from which to build who I am. Not all of are born into those trust-building families, but we can find good relationships where we are trusted and loved which allow us to in turn trust and love.

We have all gone through some kind of programming that stops us from fully being ourselves, but that's why we are here, for spiritual transformation. Remember this- Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

If you can handle any circumstances in life that are thrown on you without feeling shitty about yourself you are automatically confident. You don't need money, status, possession, good work, you don't need anything to be confident, you can be deaf, blind, with no limbs on a wheelchair and mentally impaired in the same time but very confident because you accept what is, with peace, and you are not crying about yourself. People think that they need to own or do something in order to build their confidence. If you can do, do, but don't build your confidence on it. If you can't do, don't do, and don't feel any less confident about yourself.

Just wanted to add something I've learned recently as I have been trying to build my self-confidence. I started questioning where my self-worth lies when I began reflecting on my own well-being. I found out that I've measured my own self-worth on my success. If I view myself based on how successful I am, then I will never be satisfied with who I am as an individual and always feel a lack in my life as if "I'm not enough." This is why I've lacked self-confidence. I am not my success and failures. I've also realized that confidence is how we see ourselves, and how we interact with the world. When we begin to change the image we have of ourselves we gain the confidence needed in order to live happier, fuller lives. Hopes this helps :)

Well, i think that it is actually easier to build confidence than to believe in it. If we do not like something about us, whatever it is, we might as well take action and try to do something about it, overcome!. On the other hand, If we try to convince ourselves to believe in our self confidence instead, i would say this is a placebo, something fragile, the type of confidence that can be broken with a random comment.

I completely lack confidence due to a shitty childhood, my mother has a non treated bipolar disorder (not fun lol). She systematically destroyed my self esteem for years on, due to covid I had to move back home and it has been a dreadful experience and my confidence is at record low and I am quite depressed. "there are so many people out there that are more than happy to sell you the cosmetic solutions to your insecurities" This! And beyond that, it further perpetuates our insecurities, to where we think we need these "solutions" in order to reach that confident state. These people profit off of the things we're taught we "need". I think this manifests in so many ways, not just physical insecurities but another big one is capital insecurity. People buy the next new shoe or phone or shirt, often times not because they truly needed the item, but because the item gives a sense of having more value since it's engrained in our minds that capital=value, no matter if the capital serves the consumer in any way outside of simply having the thing in their possession. (does one really need 6 types of gym shoes?) It's so engrained in our culture, to work to make money to buy things, and capital giants like Bezos, Musk, and the likes are viewed as successful for acquiring more capital wealth than they could ever use alone. I believe some of the most insecure people are those kinds of people, constantly striving to keep building, or hoarding, their capital when its already reached a point of being near impossible to make use of it all. This can be disguised by parting ways with some of their wealth, these kinds of people are often times percieved as philanthropists by donating a small portion of their wealth, and yet as soon as there's a threat to their income they go to extreme measures to maintain the rate at which they're receiving this income. A massive tool to gaining confidence in my life has been to not look at what things I need to add to my life in order to better myself, but what I need to remove in order to focus on higher priority things. (Not to say you won't ever need things, investing in items that will truly add value to your life, such as books or necessary art supplies, are capital investments in yourself). This works in two ways, I care less about what I think I must have (and as a result stress far less over how I have to go about getting said things), and I build up my strengths in areas that I find fulfillment in, whether it be a hobby or an academic interest. Building up those areas help to realize how much you have within YOUSELF, without the aid of outside "solutions" or "potions" or capital. Like you said, investing in your well being :)

Absolutely well- being is key. Both mental and physical. Having an internal locust of control makes you feel more confident, as you’re not reliant on the things around you to feed that feeling of security. That deep understanding that everything around you is completely temporary, and you only have control of your inner state. The best thing I’ve heard to help me shift my mindset was - resilient people understand that both good and bad things happen to everyone. What matters more is how we rise from our circumstances. The world isn’t fair, and that’s ok. :)

Confidence is partly age related, in my experience. I give a lot less shits about what people think of me at age 28 than I did at 18. After so many criticisms/insults/rejections you get tougher skin. With that "toughness" comes a quiet sense of confidence.
