Nice! That's a lot of hard work but, you pressed forward and it all worked out. Congratulations! i raced with a bunch of experienced sailors and at the start of one race, we accidentally ran aground. A powerboat helped us slide off the sand bottom. It happens to even the best. Bad decision of the committee boat to set the starting line close to shallow water. We all learned something new and worked quickly to solve the issue. Best wishes.

I would love to know the final number on that salvage invoice, if you don’t mind sharing. Obviously, you should be keeping that boat...

To stop the in-mast furler from clanking around, run the swivel halfway up the mast with a tag line on it. Tie the tag line anywhere around the area of the gooseneck so you can retrieve the swivel. The swivel will stop the furler from moving around & making noise.

if the boat was in international waters, then yes you can own the salvaged boat...this deal was too good to be true..."pull my boat off the beach and the yacht is yours..." too good to be true! the owner should make a large payment to this couple for the tremendous job they did to salvage his boat

Honestly its to be expected that the old owner would agree to give you the boat as he was desperate. In desperation hed say anything and you were right to say fine, just pay me as you did the work for an agreement and if he cant fulfil that then just pay for the work done. I "think" maritime law and salvage rights are on your side but im sure Ill know for sure when you tell is! Damn Holly, I am thrilled and excited for you guys!!

I hope you had the other agreement in writing because ANY changes would have to be in writing and added to the original “contract”. I’m sorry there’s so many jerks out there who just look for situations & people to take advantage of and I’m hoping this one will get the lesson he’s begging for! 🍀🍀🍀🍀

uggghh. A bit of sand in the tub is bad enough. This would drive me insane! Hopefully you can deal with it without having to disassemble the entire interior.... but to do it right, access the tanks and systems, I suppose that's coming. It will be totally worth it. And I'll enjoy watching. Good on ya.

Congrats for your wonderful and courageous efforts! I'm one of many curious as to what happens next and why. From a life time of playing in/with water, I know that what it washed in, it can wash out, too. So I'd probably screw up and make things worse, but after emptying everything out of the boat, I'd be using lots of fresh water after the boat was gently laid on her port side on tires--and spray/pump everything down and out. Lots of fresh water, flushing every place the salt water went, getting rid of all the salt and sand if possible. Use the weight to mimic the stresses that trapped the sand in the opened cracks to release it. Extensive damage? Yes, and from what I saw, it is concentrated to a specific part of the port side (and everything attached to it). I'm betting on it being back in the water, with a new set of sponsored sails and electronics and whatever else is deemed needed for future adventures, for very little money outlay and not an awful amount of hours hard labor, compared to its value as 'your personally custom-built yacht'. (Whew! Might be my longest run-on sentence ever!) That boat is worth a small pile of money now, that could be much larger with some more money and effort invested. Or sell it now and get back to the old boat? Restore the new boat back to 'new' condition? Or just make it safe and sound and sail its socks off asap? Its a beautiful boat, and I can't imagine getting another one as valuable with less overall damage for the same costs again. Decisions, decisions, decisions. Am happy they are Holly's, because be there no doubt, she certainly earned them. With respect,,,john
