It sure is, Prestonk; I remember seeing the original Ovation Magnums at GC used for under a grand. So, the Eastwood Magnum does the Ovation justice in my humble opinion. Plus, the options of passive or active electronic sand stereo output means the Magnum can do what most other basses can’t do.

They were making electric guitars in the 1960's like the Typhoon series and others. Some differences between the two basses would be the graphite rod neck with thread inserts; quad-coil pu; massive bridge with the fine tuning increments; large Schaler tuning machines; and probably at least 5 more pounds-they were painfully heavy.

Ah, thanks for the tip. I'll keep that in mind next time I talk about Ovation 👍

I have my late brother's???? Deacon??? 6 string. I need to do a show & tell on it some day. Great looking bass & your review was full of good info.

Thanks Vanzini. And yeah, you definitely gotta show off that Deacon. I played a 78 (I think) Breadwinner at GC a while back and I’ve been obsessed with them and the Deacons since. Good thing Eastwood also makes a Breadwinner because the originals are going for stupid money on the used market.

Thanks Dwight, I’m glad Eastwood is bringing the Magnum back; Ovation had a good thing back in the day. Definitely recommended it for the sheer versatility it has. This bass is ready for just about any stage or studio situation.

Thanks, My Knees Hurt, as a history geek I had to share the backstory of the Magnum. So glad I pulled the trigger on the Eastwood version; no way I'm parting with it.

The Italia Bass has a twin output also. And those are some really interesting basses too. U should check them out. I forget which series has them..think it starts with a "M" like molidal or something idk... being lazya bout looking it up. It also I think has a fiberglass body?? Check it out. the end

Thanks John, I forgot how much I liked playing bass; nice break from guitar.

The original had a neck pickup that had a unique construction with one coil per string, and trimpots to balance them. I've made several pickups with that design and the result was a pickup with unparalelled clarity and force, each coil able to get a near perfect read on each string. That's the only thing that saved those ugly basses from immediate cancellation, nothing else sounds as good as an original Magnum bass. And Eastwood just dropped in a mudbucker because chrome. Fail.

Well they mass-produce their instruments, so they need to fine a way to make production easier and more efficient don’t they.
