Planting a pollinator-friendly micro-forest with the children of Lumiar School, SUGi used active learning to reconnect the students with their environment, showing them that nature can be a solution to today’s biodiversity crisis.
Bees pollinate around 80% of wildflowers in Europe but are facing a loss of food sources; 97% of meadows have disappeared along with woodland and hedgerows.
The vast majority of plants we need for food rely on pollination. Did you know that bees are naturally tree feeders? A single lime tree in flower provides the same amount of forage as a wildflower meadow the size of a football pitch.
“Kids today can get disengaged from learning because it’s too abstract; the way someone learns is by applying that knowledge to something practical.” Melissa, Director at Lumiar Stowford
