Galadriel is the worst. She makes this whole war just about her.

She also has daughter Celebrían who should be married to Elrond

Galadriel is completely out of character. She was have supposed to have learnt great wisdom from Melian the Maia in the first age….. these writers thought they could improve the work of the greatest fantasy writer of all time, what hubris. I just don’t understand what planet these guys come from….

Your clue to this show being insane is in episode 7when they all survived a volcano!? My first clue that this show was insane was in episode 1 when Guyladriel dove into an OCEAN WITH INTENTIONS TO SWIM BACK ACROSS IT!!! We get that this is fantasy but a world has It's own rules. My question now is what are the capabilities of a thousand year old elf? Are they demi gods?

@@Sacrilege83 Yeah, that was pretty insane, but it's not unheard of for elves to have ridiculous amounts of stamina. However, even if an elf could survive a pyroclastic flow because of their abilities or some power, the humans definitely wouldn't have.

don't forget the silliness of the volcano erupting in the first place. This little bit of water would just have evaporated.

I get chills every time watching the prologue to fellowship of the ring. It is so epic, grand, inspiring and leaves you wanting to know more about the Second Age. When Elves, Men (and Dwarves - not depicted) fought and died together to defeat the Great Evil. An Age where courage and honour and inherent goodness were paramount. It sucks you right into the world. Rings of Power was supposed to be that story (or lead up to it), but it's just a soulless product, devoid of creativity and thought. One that is more interested in forcing allegory of the writers political ideology, than it is in staying true to Tolkien, or even telling a compelling narrative.

The Total War: Warhammer 3 prologue has more substance and better writing than this show.

But there were some who resisted. A last alliance of men and elves marched against the armies of Mordor. And on the slopes of Mt. Doom, they fought for the freedom of Middle Earth... *Mordor theme plays*

The last time the Good people of Valinor gave Melkor, a.k.a Morgoth, a second chance; he murdered the two divine trees of the world, stole the three Silmarils for himself, and brought near ruin to Middle Earth; so I get why Gladriel would never, in her right mind, trust Sauron. With that said, these 'good' characters from the show do not FEEL anything like what they were like in the Middle Earth saga. The way the filming crew has been depicting the Second Age is not only inaccurate, due to poor character portrayals, but it's also BBBBBBOOOOOOORRRRRRRIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGG!!!!! If I was Bezos, I would have looked for a way to hire on some of the people currently working on "Game of Thrones: The House of The Dragon"; at least it would be interesting, but probably still not 100% lore friendly.

If only the rest of mass media entertainment and so on understood that...

Honestly it’s just terrible writing. They were trying to convey like a change of heart from the beginning of leaving people, to sticking together. But there’s just not enough substance or directing to make the audience feel that way.

Characters literally contradict themselves from 1 episode to the next, and in other instances they contradict themselves from 1 minute to the next. Its so bad that this show has become a comedy rather than an epic fantasy.

They just happen to mention Celeborn this episode so, when Guyladriel arrives with Saurbrand and is about to kiss him, he appears like "hey honey, I'm home".... Tun tun tuuuuuun.... 🤦🏻‍♂️

I'm at minute7 of the ep7 and the worst thing is Galadriel tells Theo 'stay with me' and camera pans 10feet away and we see an old man burning alive moaning and crawling away, villagers stuck in a burning house crying for help, the rest of the cast- Numenor gang show up seconds later. We see it on screen, might happen in real life, shock, disoriented etc but on film is Galadriel dumb, I was thinking is she going to kill Theo???

Buddy, Jackson managed to make A BUNCH OF PEOPLE LIGHTING BONFIRES into one of the single most epic moments of cinema ever. RoP can't even make an EXPLODING VOLCANO exciting.

They are filming in similar or the same locations from the film trilogy and the show is awful. They have tons more money, 20 years of studying what parts of Jackson's work resonated with the fans, pre-chosen natural settings with proven track records of success with fans, and hundreds of pages of writing to take inspiration from for dialogue. There's just no way that they watched any one of the films and compared it and decided, "Our show should fit in nicely with the fans".

Because the Jackson Films succeeded because the fans were getting the closest to what they wanted ever, and with the Hobbit, they weren't... And they handed off this show to clueless idiots with EGOS who thought they knew how to make a better story than the original material when in reality they can't even write a half-decent narrative that even makes sense. Just like they tried to make Eragon into LOTR. They are so blinded by stupid focus groups they can't work out the simple truth that if you just do the damn story that everyone loves with minimal changes, it succeeds.

If I were to tell you the most outlandish story about a being of incomprehensible power singing a flat world into existence that was initially lit up by two giant lanterns and then a spider eats some trees and eventually rings make people turn into ghosts, you'd be bored and annoyed and also probably ask me what I am doing in your room. If it instead was the Silmarillion and the wonderful tale of Beren and Luthien or the Lord of the Rings, you'd probably be much, much interested in the tale. I despise this idea of "don't think, just consume the fantasy story". No, I respect my time too much for that.

Which is funny because with respect to it’s own universe, pretty much everything in the legendarium is meticulously explained and completely makes sense. It’s very difficult to find a blatant inconsistency in the books. I don’t know how people can say that “realism” was never important to middle-earth because it’s “just fantasy” when Tolkien took the time to painstakingly map out the geography and the journey’s the characters take. I’ve literally done the math and double-checked to see if the travel times in the story make sense, and they do. This is pretty common in fantasy now, but back when Tolkien wrote it wasn’t.

It's not supposed to be greed either though, that's a change that the movies made. The dwarves don't just dig at random, they have a bond with the mountain (since they themselves were literally carved out of it by Aule). It's the influence of the rings given to them that obscure it and cloud their judgement, causing them to dig where they shouldn't and release the balrog.

Gandalf himself says that dwarves " delved too greedily and too deep" when walking through Khazad-dum in Fellowship of the Ring, A journey in the Dark chapter... "The Dwarves tell no tale; but even as mithril was the foundation of their wealth, so also it was their destruction: they delved too greedily and too deep, and disturbed that from which they fled, Durin’s Bane. " It is a recurring theme in Tolkien (completely aside from the rings of power), from hobbit to LOTR to silmarillion to Morhoth's ring. Jackson did not make up the themes of the LOTR that he adapted in his films. He was loyal to them in almost every possible way, especially in the theatrical edition.

They used their rings only for the getting of wealth; but wrath and an overmastering greed of gold were kindled in their hearts, of which evil enough after came to the profit of Sauron." That's pretty explicit I'd say.

I wonder, it feels like they want to "explain" why dwarves hate elves in the future so much (like "we tried to help you but doing it just bit us in ass"). Like they are trying to create an "aha!" moment...

I think you and they failed to understand the idea was not to hide she's blind forever, but to not let it show on the walk back as this is a massive moral loss. Now that they're back to camp and relative safety keeping the illusion doesn't make sense.

@Silent Man Yes, I agree the writing is horrendous. That is a major part of it, but there is a lot more going on than that to make it this bad. The directors, casting, camera work, editing, etc. The reason so many things suck are conscious choices made by Amazon, and backed by their echo chamber consensus of woke BS, subversive narrative structure, and filling quotas. Same as Disney / Marvel, another corporation that sucks the souls out of their own ips and loyal fanbase with live action remakes (mostly terrible). The original point is that these companies are incapable of creating real art anymore, primarily because it is all mechanical to them and about the bottom line.

Part way through the second episode I just started looking at this show as some alternate reality with completely different lore. It made the headache go away, it's still a dumpster fire even if you don't know anything about tolkien especially the writing.

Men of the West also did a great outline of a 2nd age adaptation, pretty great stuff. Amazing how youtubers can think of a better adaptation than a billionaire corporation but thats what happens when one loves the lore and the other only loves the money.

@@lightblue8818 he was similar to his father. He didn’t believe it should be a movie since they wanted the reader to interpret the dialogue to create the world in their mind. No 2 people would have the same exact middle earth.

I DO NOT like the show, I roll my eyes the whole time. But the physical falling of the leaf didn’t wake it up. I believe it was the elf/magic leaf (can’t remember the name of the tree) coming into its presence woke it up

My assumption was that the massive crevice was excavated by the dwarves. Meaning that if the balrog is just at the bottom of it, clearly the dwarves wouldve seen it.

@@hapablap2088 no, the crevice was a crevice. They only knocked a tiny head sized whole into it. There are naturally fissures and caverns in the rock. Usually made by water and heat.

Cause people were mad at him from the beginning of high score rating and he had to stick to ttheir idea. The show is good, if then you want to hate it, it's not to easy to do it.
