@@Turtle-SoupI've never understood why it wasn't present in gen 5. It's the same console, and I believe the same engine, with only a slightly differente art style. They could have recycled the system and only had to add like 160 new pokemon, while gen 4 had to make around 500 from scratch. I understand why it wasn't present from gen 6 onward, but in gen 5 it wouldn't have been that difficult to implement. In fact the technology was present, as you show in the video.

Back when BW released it was honestly the biggest reason I didn’t love BW at launch haha. I missed having my Pokémon follow me in HGSS alongside the general QoL features like the menu on the bottom screen and not needing to hold B to run

Overly slow Pokemon is a really annoying issue with the Switch following Pokemon. I appreciate that different species have different speeds, but most of them are too slow. Like, why can't my Weavile keep up with me, even when I'm off Miraidon?

I think the best game for following pokemon, despite it being my least favourite, was probably the Lets Go games. They did a great job implementing it in those games

Yeah, they are so animated and full of life in lgpe, so annoying that they it just goes completely downhill after it

One more reason the Diamond and Pearl remakes are such a disappointment. They could have been so much better ;-; And it's unlikely that they'll just try to remake them again which sucks.

@@Turtle-Soup Bdsp is misunderstood it may not have had platinum content but it did add it’s own new stuff like expanded underground, updated qol, modern type chart, modern movepool, ramanas park etc and it’s got wholesome vibes Also Ilca is more experienced now It was loved by the mainstream casual audience The more hardcore fans may not have liked it but they weren’t the target audience The game was designed to be an approachable game for beginner players so they had to make it look as cute and as welcoming as possible hence the chibi appearance ⁠ Bdsp added more new content than platinum tho It’s got the up to date type chart as well as the move pools It completely overhauled the underground It gave us the hardest elite four and champion out of any pokemon game We got ramanas park It’s got clothing customization as well It removed the hassle of HMs It’s way faster not slow anymore

I thought it was cool that when you are biking/surfing on the water in Galar that Suicune runs on the water with you. ❤‍🔥

I think the feature I miss the most that many overlook is the environmental interactions with following Pokémon. In HGSS (and a little bit in Yellow), various locations and activities cane with specific quotes from Pokémon. When in Vermillion, Pokémon will smell the sea air. Pokémon greet completely unimportant NPCs, like a duo on the route north of Goldenrod. Fire Pokémon are grumpy in shallow water. In Yellow, Pikachu will wear a bucket after fishing or have a special animation after learning Thunderbolt. These made the Pokémon feel alive and engaged in the world. I hate that they're gone.

I HATE the accurate speeds that Pokémon SWSH dlc added to walking Pokémon and I really hate that it’s become a mainstay. Some Pokémon are so slow you can’t even see them walk behind you

And they're not even accurate since speedy pokemons will just lag back... They just copypasted the camp speeds without much care... Terrible games.

I wish you could make your Pokemon passive or aggressive in SV. I hate having to press the button repeatedly when shiny hunting swarms. They need to be able to attack on their own.

Following Pokémon is a great feature. I also really like the Synchro Machine in Scarlet and Violet, even if it's not 100% related. I wasn't a big fan of how the following feature was implemented in the Gen 8 games, it felt like nothing really keeps up with you properly. HeartGold and SoulSilver still have my favorite following but them being sprite based probably plays a factor in that

The fact HG/SS were also gen4 games and used sprite art perfectly consistent with everything else in the overworld maps makes the BD/SP implementation look all the more cheep and lazy. The contrast between chibi style humans and awkwardly scaled Pokémon battle models is just so jarring. Seriously, if they were going to be so insistent on this "faithful" art style, that needed to apply to the following Pokémon as well, but of course that would have drastically ballooned production cost. What BD/SP should have done is be less faithful and go with the semi-chibi art style from Let's Go, which would have also meant they could even reuse the following/riding animations for the first 151.

The following Pokémon in Scarlet & Violet are pratically non-existent due to two things, the fact that any Pokémon return to their pokéball if you go too far which leads to the other issue which is Miraidon/Koraidon since you spend most of the game traversing the region on them and they are too fast for any Pokémon to catch up to and at least for me, I spend more time in the air. I hope they do something with the synchro machine in future games otherwise it's just a gimmick with no real purpose or incentive to use it other than the fact you can play as your favorite Pokémon... unless they're not in the game

Imo the biggest let down was Black/White not having following Pokemon, such a disappointment after HG/SS!

Personally, I liked the feature in Scarlet and Violet quite a bit. Apart from the already mentioned things like Synchro Mode and quick battles (which make farming materials and getting the 60 KOs on Outbreaks easier), there's also other quirks like being able to raise friendship as they walk with you, or that your Pokémon companion automatically picks up items from the floor. Also that a some of the Pokémon have silly animations like Kingambit, who just looks like a freaked out grandpa in a fast vehicle.

@@Kosarhs Realistically, not every Pokémon can catch up with you. I see this more of a hanging out with your pal option, than what everyone else expects because of how it was implemented in HG/SS.

@@genarftheunfuni5227 Functionality is more important than 'realism.' No one wanted following Pokemon back for them to be too slow to catch up to you, especially in relation to HGSS. It's not practical, and quite frankly following Pokemon should stay gone if GameFreak continues to stick to the 'realistic' approach.

i really hope they can continue with the synchro machine feature in future games but incorporate it into puzzle-solving, like maybe a small cave that you can only access by synchronizing into a small pokemon, or diving and exploring underwater with water pokemon!! it would be so fun :'))

i liked the following pokemon in sv! i don’t mind sacrificing some speed in order to walk with my team and roleplay more, but i totally get how if your favorites are super slow like torterra it’d get annoying

I think since its come back its been a bit sloppy like you can just outrun your pokemon or even outbike them. It's like your leaving them behind and respawn. What's the point If its sloppy it might as well not be in the game. Sword and Shield its terrible, bdsp is even worse for this. As much as I don't like the let's go games they get it right with a nice balance.

Yeah they really feel like an afterthought in most of the recent entries. The Pokémon having accurate walking speed is cool on paper, but in execution just kinda sours it imo.

@@Turtle-Soup honestly I absolutely agree. In HG/SS it just works well cause they are just following and it isn't reliant on speed. They are just there being a friend and go into the pokeball when you on the bike. Its just better

the best pokemon to walk with in Scarlet & Violet is Iron Valiant, like i dont even like the pokemon that much but because it’s my False Swiper it grew on me especially thanks to to the way to walks next to you almost perfectly, it feels like xenoblade

I like your videos. They are well-researched, well-presented, and well-edited. And I want to support small channels that are making quality content. I don't like that you use the Lord's name in vain at the end of every video. I think it detracts from your videos, and it makes me want to stop watching. Please, take this as a constructive criticism. If your content wasn't otherwise top-tier, I would just have left and not said anything.
