Pandemic Studios began in 1998 as an investment equity from Activision. It was started by two former Activision employees who were put in charge of Pandemic Studios. The first Pandemic Studios games were released in the late 90s and were sequels to previous games from Activision. Pandemic Game Studio found success in the Star Wars franchise after developing Star Wars The Clone Wars and continued to make more titles for the IP. Star Wars became associated with Pandemic Studios Games after Battlefront was created. After four big hits with Star Wars Battlefront, Destroy All Humans, Full Spectrum Warrior, and Mercanies, Pandemic Studios started on four sequels that would ultimately lead to the collapse of the company.

To this day Mercenaries has to be one of my favorite experiences on the 6th gen. I still remember sharing stories of Mercenaries and Destroy all Humans with my friend back in highschool! I do remember the long wait for Mercenaries 2 and wondering why did the game feel so off compared to the first one. I didn't hate it but I still prefer the first one. I still miss Pandemic. Great look at the rise and fall TigerChainsaw!

Mercenaries was amazing. I had a demo of it and played it non stop. I loved the idea of the cards. Destroy All Humans was one I just beat not too long ago. It was super fun and the humor was good. I remember getting Mercenaries 2 and being sooooo disappointed LOL it was not like the first one at all and for obvious reasons it shows. Pandemic was a great studio. Thanks for watching homie!

This was an awesome video that was very informative. I never knew about Pandemic’s beginnings, and it wasn’t until Star Wars The Clone Wars that I heard of this dev team. The Battlefront games were awesome for sure, and while Mercenaries 2 was super buggy, it was also a lot of fun. The Saboteur is one I always wanted to play, and just reminded me I need to pick up for my PS3! Loving this series man!

It's weird to see how it doesn't seem to take much for a gaming company to go under. I think the Lord of the Rings game looks fun and I would probably enjoy the battlefront games as well. Great video

I really liked these and I'm excited to see the rest. These have been pretty brief, digging just below the surface. But I enjoyed the concise bit of history of the companies and their games you went over in each so far.

This was awesome! I like the level of detailed info that you put into this new series as I'm sure it must be a ton of work to put together! I didn't play a ton of their games, but the ones that I played, I really enjoyed, like Mercenaries and especially The Saboteur! The only negative point of that game was that there were some glitches, but the gameplay and story were so good! I've looked online, and there's a small modding community that did 12 mods to add some of the cut content back on PC, so I'll have to check that out to see the difference with the retail version that I've played on the 360 back then! Unfortunately, we never got the sequel to The Saboteur that was announced shortly just before Pandemic was closed. I would have bought it immediately if it ever came to fruition! This video missed a very important aspect of Pandemic's history re: the ultimate shutdown of the studio. They were working on a Batman: The Dark Knight open world game that was supposed to use the Odin engine (which powered The Saboteur) but they couldn't put together the game fast enough due to an expiring license agreement. (They were only given 18 months.) Pandemic Brisbane was the primary developer of this Batman game, which is why it got the axe before the rest of Pandemic proper. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman:_The_Dark_Knight_(video_game)

I only ever played SWBF2. I honestly never really saw them as a smash hit jackpot studio, but that's just my opinion, and that may be unfair as I e only played one game. I did try to play mercenaries 2 but no lie the brand new game would not play and ultimately after arguing with a GameStop employee I was able to get a refund.

The first two Battlefronts are a ton of fun. Great multiplayer whether you’re playing bots or on the couch. They had a great three or four game stretch but the EA got to them. Funny story about Mercenaries 2 haha, that game was trash for me too. Thanks for watching buddy

@@TigerChainsawVideoGames there's a lot more company offices in Brisbane than even Brisbanites realise. I didn't know and I've lived here my whole life (though admittedly Brisbane is more of a large and sprawling suburbia outside the smaller inner city itself, so it's easy to be out of the loop if you live in the suburbs). When people think of Australia and business in the same sentence they usually think of Sydney. Sydney is definitely a main commercial hub for Australia but Brisbane is also on the coast and is 1,000km or so further north, which makes it popular for a lot of companies because it's much cheaper to operate in while also being a little bit closer to other dense commercial regions like Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan and China. I've worked for a number of companies now for whom their Asia-Pacific HQ is in Brisbane despite having offices all over the place.

I wish I knew what Andrew was up to today. Josh Resnick & his wife are thriving. They own Sugarfina, and a few more businesses. I miss Pandemic Studios. Their games were fantastic but Star wars, Destroy all Humans 1-2, & Mercenaries 1-2 were just perfect at the time. I love how in destroy all humans 2, if a human saw you, sometimes they'd say "Omg its Charles Manson!!" 🤣 but my fav game by them will always be Mercenaries 1. It was just too good at the time!!

If you haven't seen it, look up "Pandemic Studios visit by Gamereactor." It's nostalgiac and at one point they hint at a GI Joe game that they might have eventually made if they never got shut down🤷‍♂️

The only one of these I've played was SW Battlefront, though I do own a couple and intend to play some, haha. The Clone Wars & Destroy All Humans have been on my backlog for a while. EA has been a notoriously difficult publisher. I know game devs need publishers, but they can really sink a game. It's frustrating to see the same patterns over and over. I worked in Big Tech, and sometimes management would dictate X, we'd point out extreme problems Y & Z, Management would ignore us, then Y & Z would cause a huge problem threatening to tank the company. You can only gamble on those huge problems so many times before one ends your company. I hate watching it in industry, and the video game industry seems rife with these sorts of decisions to rush, cut corners, alter core game identity, etc...

It’s been a bummer to see EA swallow up so many devs. Battlefront and Battlefront II are both great. I have the clone wars but haven’t tried it out. Destroy All Humans is a solid game but I never played the sequels. I do highly recommend Mercenaries. The first one is great…. The second…. Not so much. Thanks for watching buddy!!

I played Full Spectrum Warrior and Mercenaries 1&2. Didn't like them much. Passable at best. I can understand they would close this studio with this game output. Nothing really interesting...

Unlike Volition, I felt bad when EA shut down Pandemic. EA has a mass grave of once great devs in their backyard that they shut down. Damn shame we never got Mercenaries 3.
