Well everyone it’s become official that the SportsNation social media accounts have been replaced with ESPNBet and SportsNation is OFFICIALLY dead. What a run it had. Sad it’s officially over.
This show was definitely ahead of its time in terms of how interactive it was with fans and how it was still high production value while being more laid back than how formal sportscenter was. Couldn’t happen now bc the internet’s baseline is way more toxic but I’m glad I got to experience it. That interactive 3D bar chart in the front of the desk and audience reactions were gold
I remember the website used to feature a poll with a map that broke down how every state voted. It used to cue you in on things like where a player was from or something
This show was like a PTI for the younger generation. I watched from day 1 back in college and was instantly hooked. It just meshed perfectly with the early days of social media. One of my favorite segments was random people leaving voicemails as if they were pro athletes. Unfortunately the show died in my eyes when Colin and Beadle left.
Awesome video with great nostalgia. Agreed, this was THE show for me in 4-6th grade (2009-2011) after school and, like you said, my friends and I would answer with the most absurd responses to SportsNation polls each morning. Looking back on it, I definitely now realize how connected it was to social media and a big trailblazer in that category of sports programming. I definitely lost interest when Michelle left but will always remember random memories on the show like right before the Duke/Butler championship, the Madden 12 cover reveal, when they went to Fort Worth for the Super Bowl, when Adam Richmond of Man v Food came on and Michelle's good bye. Likewise, I remembered Dude Perfect solely from their appearance(s) on the show and was astounded years later to see how big they got. I actually created a Twitter profile on a snow day in fifth grade because I wanted to respond to the question of the day "is curling a sport" to which apparently I had a very adamant opinion about. What a show, just seeing the intro made me flash back.
That was an awesome wholesome statement I'm sure folks probably missed. when he mentioned he was able to get his sister to watch the show, followed by I think that's why I enjoyed it cause I could get my friends to watch it with me.
Man I was 12 when sportsnation first started and it was always one of my favorite shows to sit and watch when I would get home from school, I would show my dad clips and we would talk about the different discussion questions they would have, it was a fun memory I have from childhood and you just unlocked a lot of nostalgia for a young me
I used to love watching this in college around 2010-2011 especially, funny to see that it was geared towards college aged men because it's clear looking back.
Great video, this was my favorite show to watch in elementary school. I remember they did the madden 25 cover too with Adrian Peterson and Barry sanders
Oh my God! I used to rush home from school everyday to watch this show! Submitted a video and got Colin to show it to the producers. Do you remember their 2009 spin off "Winner's Bracket"? It was a countdown show where it put two plays against each other and the studio audience voted on which play was better. Loved that spin off, think it only lasted 2 episodes or so though. Great video! Brought a lot of memories back.
I loved sportsnation because it felt so fresh and new for ESPN. And like Cole said it was something you could watch with family members who didn't like sports. I never felt like I was hogging the living room TV when I put this show on because it was entertaining to everyone. I completely forgot this is where Colin Cowherd got his start on TV
I started watching in 2014 and loved it/ As someone who only kinda watched sports, I loved this show and it was the only one I'd watch. I always thought this show's audience wasn't younger people, but casual fans. That's why I loved it; it was simple. I didn't want to hear 2 people share their thoughts on this player's injury for 20 minutes, but I wanted to know that it happened. I liked hearing the news, but the debates and talking that dragged on forever bored me to death. On Sports Nation, I learned about it, heard them talk about it for 30 seconds, and moved on. It was great. I also loved the tears, jeers, and tears section. It gave me a recap of the best, worst, and funniest moments of the previous day in sports. Someone had an insane hole-in-one? Or hit a bird with their baseball? I got to see it. The games were fun, the guests were cool, and the hosts were great together. Truly the perfect show for someone only kinda into sports like me. I never watched when Collin was on so this video was really interesting. Thanks for reminding me how freaking great this show was.
I loved watching Michelle and Colin. Hilarious and knew their stuff. Max and Marcellus were good too. But i liked when Melanie Collins was on with Marcellus. She knew how to work the camera.
It was my favorite ESPN show but then they started to turn into just another debate show. That's not why I watched the show, I watched it for the funny moments and humor
I loved this show truly and had such a crush on Michelle. I loved coming home from high school and watching this. It was how I found out about dude perfect and many other viral videos.
Me too! And then when she left she was replaced by Clarissa Thompson who I also had a crush ok, then after the show ended her leaked nude videos came out and I would masturbate to them all the time. I think I will do that again tonight for old time sake
They use to do the cover reveals for the madden and ncaa video game too wich god wish this show was around for that game next year. I think the second best is SBN secret base
Now, speaking of something hardly anyone remembers: Cold Pizza WAS the original First Take. Or, rather, what got turned into First Take. Now, I was not a fan of Cold Pizza, whatsoever. I used to sit up late, after work & watch repeats of SportsCenter, until Mike & Mike in the morning came on ESPN News & I'd watch that while smoking some weed until Cold Pizza would come on. At which point, I would go to sleep.
Bring it backkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ESPN was never the same after the show left why do they cancel this one I love this show.
SportsNation drew heavily from G4's Attack Of The Show, which had solidified it's format and hosts by the time SportsNation came out. SN was like the sports version of AOTS, except not nearly as entertaining. As for SN, it could be enjoyable at times. Cowherd wasn't quite as unbearable as he is now, Beadle was always enjoyable, but when Wiley joined the show.... no thanks.
That’s funny I remember hating the shit out of Charissa. I felt like she was so argumentative and defensive. I’m sure she got better over time but I basically stopped watching after that
Wow, I honestly never knew it was Cowherd’s show at first, I only started watching after Max took over. I’m kinda glad I didn’t know about it in the early days, even though it sounds like a lot of people have a lot of nostalgia for that period, I could never stand Colin, just such an ass.
5:43 Ray Rice was in the same matchup as Hillis who went on to win. We could’ve had Ray Rice on the cover of madden only like a year before the elevator incident, yikes.
