Honoured to be part of this Jordy. Thank you. An important body of work and area for regeneration. Enjoyed the conversations, and I'm glad we managed to get a sunny day for our filmed chat down on the site at Tynemouth.
My grandmother (Lizzy) was the receptionist in Fenham Pool through the 80s and into the late 90s. I used to go every Saturday afternoon when growing up. The vending machine chicken soup was the best! So many memories in that building. “BLUE BANDS OUT, PLEASE”
Wonderful, insightful video Jordan, 👏👏👏......it brings back many memories from my time as a young boy (in the 70s and 80s).....training in the city pools back in the day. The drive, spirit and tenacity of the people who talk in this video, has to be applauded for what they are doing on behalf of the North East public. Chapeau to them ! 👏👏👏
Our lido in Stamford, Lincolnshire was great. Endless summer days in the water. Later, I lived in a house directly above Tynemouth pool for 3 years of my childhood in the early 80s. It was great, but cold. I’ve memories of swimming in there in the rain and in the sun. A pool on my doorstep. What a lucky lad! This is a great video but the state of the pool today really makes me nostalgic, and sad.
Yup nice to see something very different in the North East, covered well and makes you ponder what once was.... I cannot imagine Tynemouth outside pool ever coming back, but who knows what is in the future. As its one ugly, dirty, rusting beast at the moment sadly, like a lot of that coast and forgotten dipping spots..
The band i was in at the time played there on the last day that the city baths were open in 2013. we did one song inside, probably the strangest place we played, not sure how much the swimmers appreciated it
