There was a line when Shiv and her Mom were talking that I thought was quite prescient... something along the lines of "seeing how many time you can kick a dog before he stops coming back to you"... I think Shiv found this answer with Tom, Her "YOu love me, even tho I don't love you" was the last kick for Tom.....
I was struck by that too because I thought a light went on in Shiv's head re her father's behavior and how it was passed onto all of them. I'm still hoping the three of them are going to have an epiphany moment. I do want to see growth and at least better happiness than what Logan showed them. Everyone seems to want a tragic ending. I do not.
I don't think of Greg as a innocent guy, he was quite cunning and conniving guy himself since the very first episode, calculating which sibling could get him the biggest reward (shiv and roman asking both of them to get and not to get the papers on s01e1)
You guys are very bad at reading people if you ever thought Greg was innocent. Shy and nervous does not equate to innocence. Greg has always been a social climber/ opportunist from the moment we met him. He literally kept pestering for a high job position when Logan was dying. Greg was never innocent.
tom has always been the one to look after greg, and greg is a nice person. that betrayal will be unnecessary and a bad plot twist for the show. i hope they don't do that. the only power duo in this show, romantic or not, is tom and greg. i'm sure there'll be a massive outrage and just bad writing if they broke that formula. because HBO is reinventing television with succession as we speak. the last HBO reinvented television was 20 year ago, with the sopranos. succession will either go down on history as one of the greatest shows of all time or as just another show which fell from grace. we just have to pray the latter doesn't happen.
@@peapodsinthemoonlight Greg is Machiavellian... Play both sides, looks silly, naive "the cousin Greg". But he doesn't wanted work with Tom, betrayed him with the papers and later give to Kendal... Tom Said "trust no one", so Greg doesn't trust tom or Kendal and acts pragmatic with everyone... In the end probably gonna stab Tom... (And yes I don't want that, but I think the show is going in this path, but hey I not the writer so who knows what's going to happen!)
Tom is a good soldier. But Greg is family. And Logan Roy does everything 'for his family,' even if it's the grandson of his asshole sanctimonious brother.
Oooh no. I was disgusted with his horrible pretense. But I agree with the editing on this video. Very powerful - especially that catch from the opening credits. Whoa.😳👍🏽
I find Tom to be one of the most motivating fictional characters I’ve ever seen. I watch this video weekly to fuel my fire and it powers me through my engineering degree. A small town midwestern man from a modest background making his way up in the elitist world. Carving his path. Even from time sinks like TV shows there’s value to be gained.
Minneapolis-St Paul is by no means a “small town”. It’s the third largest metro area in the midwest, and at its current pace is set to overtake detroit fairly soon (minneapolis metro grows ~10-15% every decade while Detroit’s is absolutely stagnant for the last 60 years).
@@Pantsinabucket Well I've never met anyone from the Minneapolis-St Paul region and never have even heard of it other than the Vikings or Timberwolves. I've met and know many people from metro Detroit. What does the Minneapolis region even have going for it? Not a desirable place to live and no regional advantages. The metro Detroit area is the 8th most populous urban region in NA (6mil) and has 2 mil more people than metro M-SP (4mil). 2 million people makes quite the difference.
@@paulgeorge1699 Minneapolis has good jobs, managed their industrial decline a LOT better than other cities, and has been attractive for immigrants due to already well-established communities. And like I said, Minneapolis metro has grown 10-15% each decade without stopping, whereas detroit has only shrunk and as a metro, remained almost completely stagnant. It’s really not that unfeasible to see minneapolis overtaking detroit metro by 2050.
I think the sporus and Nero story is very much a red herring. Yes tom will win, and no i dont think gregg will betray tom, he will try, but people missed tge biggest clue of the story where he can't. Nero castrated Sporus. Tom will make Greg a puppet with no voice.
I think Tom has been working with Matsson the whole time. I think all these times he was looking for Shiv's favor, and to see how she cared for him, he was actually offering her a life line, look how many chances Tom gave Shiv to show him she loved and cared about him. Matsson told Logan that everybody will accessed when he takes over, I believe Tom has done that already. The last scene Tom didn't help Logan save the Company with his betrayal of Shiv, Roman, and Kendal, he helped Logan sell the company.
I think he's been an inside man for Matsson, and is helping with the take over. The last scene and betrayal of Shiv, he wasn't helping Logan save the company, he was helping him sell it.
Interestingly, I have had the opposite experience, but I think it’s because I am similar to Tom. I even realized immediately that while Tom did love Shiv, going after her was a power move in itself. It doesn’t come off that Tom got into the company out of nepotism from being with Shiv, but that he worked to get to his position and then went after Shiv/benefits from some quasi-nepotism. But, it’s still nowhere near as undeserving as any of the actual Roy children or even Greg get in terms of promotion. Kendall and Tom have genuine qualifications and all of Tom’s came from himself rather than his father opening doors. In that sense, he understands work ethic in a way to resembles Logan’s understanding more than any of the 4 Roy children. Moreover, while every single person has only ever asked for things from Logan, Tom is the only one who offered him something meaningful (and he’d been trying to do that since episode one with the watch but didn’t get the right thing until the Cruises jail time possibility + season finale). He is playing the game just like everyone else, but Tom is the only one doing it in a way that will please Logan. Tom is a killer, but he doesn’t boast about his kills-even confronting Nate at the wedding was an alpha move done quietly and with no attention drawn afterwards as he goes on the dance floor. Tom genuinely wanted Logan’s approval and acceptance, but he also knows he has a lot to offer. Tom’s sole weakness was Shiv and he’s pushed her down the stairs now. Even when he first says the Nero speech to Greg, Tom was long-term thinking of if he should betray Shiv/whether his “sad” was worth continuing in, and I knew he would. He was willing to be partners with her, but she proved constantly that she wasn’t willing to be partners back. Go look at the episode where Logan says, “I’ll remember.” You can see that Logan hands Tom a champagne glass off camera when he was forgotten (as usual). Logan acknowledged Tom in that small gesture that suggests Logan respects Tom as there isn’t actually anything Tom benefits him with anymore-but Logan wants to reward Tom, and it’s not just for one reason at this point. He proved himself to Logan throughout the three seasons. Some examples: being cutthroat as evidenced by Greg begging Logan not to be under Tom pre-bachelor party; being the only one to surprise him by eating his chicken in an odd power move that told Logan that Tom knew he needed to stay on Tom’s good side (I first thought Tom was scared and punking out, but if you rewatch that scene, that’s not fear…it’s the confident alpha move again; offering to sacrifice himself; making Shiv (Logan’s princess who he thinks is too good for Tom and doesn’t love Tom but only settles for him because he’s safe) actually care enough about Tom to show vulnerability to her dad (something Logan knows Shiv is too proud to ever really do, suggesting the love/care for Tom is deeper than he realized) beg her father not to sacrifice him; (I think Tom is the one who told Logan about kids huddling and that’s how Logan sent the donuts); and finally betraying Shiv. To be fair, I’m a huge Matthew Macfadyen/Mr. Darcy from Pride & Prejudice fan, so I was rooting for Tom from the first moment, and perhaps that’s why I could catch these things. But, Tom has had my vote from day one. I’m not sure what will happen, but I don’t think that Tom will be as easily moved as the children in terms of candidacy, even when Greg does ultimately betray him. People think Greg is Machiavellian but only Tom genuinely is (+ that one moment where Kendall pretends to offer up himself, but that’s short-lived). Greg isn’t though. That’s self-preservation he’s always exercising. Greg is always plainly asking, “What’s in it for me?” (To Shiv/Roman in the beginning and even to Logan with the lawyer issue!!!) That’s not a smart move to demonstrate to Logan one has what it takes to be his successor, which is why Gerri is not someone he values to succeed him. Tom never asks that question of anyone (except for Shiv as his partner, but never as a bargaining chip, and Kendall, but only to explain why he isn’t going to choose his side). With Logan, Tom is the only one offering “the King” a gift, rather than going to court and asking for favors. In this way, Tom allows King Logan to choose how and if to reward him. He’s been doing that all three seasons. He may have been over complimentary, but watch it again and you’ll see, Tom never asks Logan, “What’s in it for me?” Now, he’s proven that unlike the Roy kids, he’s a killer. Anyways, sorry this is long, haha. I just finished the finale a day ago and my mind is still processing + many videos about Greg being the dark horse with very few about Tom playing chess since day one has made me upset 😂.
@@LoisNerdyLane01 It’s a long essay, but you wrote it brilliantly which made me read it till the end. Can’t wait for next season to see how things unfold further.
tom "shivved" shiv in the back, the front, basically rightinher face and she didnt even see it coming. love it. if I was her husband, id have done the exact same thing.
Although I hate what Tom’s snitching did to Kendall & Rome, Shiv totally got what she deserved. It’s upto her now to pull off a big W for team siblings in S4.
@@voidsff I hate shiv too but Tom has been a sopping mess up until that second such a trash bag. Like I hate the both of them but if one of them was to win it would be Tom for me
@@Jellyfishpinkk he has been a mess because he has been human and has been holding onto that relationship and had been trying to make it work. I think he was trying to hold on to some decency. Now that he unhitched with her wagon, he is free to play the game hard core like he has wanted I think.
@@davezedman he is a mess period. He literally wanted to get shiv pregnant because he was going to jail. That makes no sense. She’s not your baby oven. Whatever your defence is for him he was a pushover and he’s not a good person. You can see that from the way he treated Greg from time to time. None of the people on this show are good people especially not Tom. People only sympathise with him cause Shiv is more of a devil that he.
@@PetterNe it was because he was going to jail and wanted to have something to connect them while he was gone. If him adoring her was the reason he won’t have dropped it so easily when he realised he wasn’t going to jail. And he won’t have only brought it up when he was going to jail
I don’t ever see him being on top on top, maybe a board member like Karl or Hugo. He rises through ranks by being a weasel and (as Kendall puts it) being a parasite off his family. He’s loyal to Logan though and for Logan that goes far.
Awesome vid! Only disappointing part that we'll never even know about looking back, is that there's a part by Frank, where he yells at Roman in the final scene of the most recent episode. Brian Cox said he was disappointed they edited it out because he said it was great.
I see some people saying that Sporus betrayed Nero, but according to my History teacher that never happend, Sporus was loyal, Nero was the pne that kept having affairs, and he died by suicide. Also, Sporus was forced to marry the new emperor, Otho, that also died by suicide, and a dude that didn't like Otho, Vitellius, tried to humiliate Sporus in public by raping him, Sporus didn't want that to happen so he killed himself age 20. So... yeah, idk about the betrayal fantasy yall have going on (it can happen, but there's nothing to do with Sporus and Nero)
Great edit man! only thing was the switch between the theme song and instrumental xzibit could have been a little smoother for dramatic effect. But just some constructive criticism. STILL AMAZING VIDEO
I don't think so. Honestly this was his first move because he had been connected to shiv and she wasn't good at this game. Now he can start making his own decisions for himself.
I thought season 3 would end with Kendall getting pissy and releasing that Gregg was the source of the papers; and in response Tom would release some shit he had on Kendall, and Kendall would go down in flames again.
i see three outcomes with Tom and Greg: 1. They end up on top, happy. 2. They end up on top but like the Sporus and Nero story, Greg gets castrated, fucked and, I'm guessing, unhappy 3. Tom fucks up Greg and ends on top. I'm leaning towards the second one tbh.
Thank you 🙏 The emperor has no clothes Canada has no clothes My ex would NEVER do anything violent. Its not in his blood. Bill Maher though, I don't know. I don't know him.
Everybody is on Tom's side because Shiv is cruel to him, but nobody remembers that he starts off as a gold digger as he has always tried to get more and more power from Logan through Shiv. He never thought of establishing himself somewhere else without Shiv's help. So why is it wrong if Shiv is uisng him since he has been using Shiv from the beginning?
Tom actually liked Shiv though. He's not really a gold digger in the traditional sense because he does work for the company. He doesn't just sit around. Im not defending him and making him seem like a good guy. He's not. None of these people are. I think people just like this rags to riches story where the poor up and coming guy snakes the rich kids.
All the characters are wrong. The show really isn’t about right or wrong, it’s about winning, as Logan put it. Shiv and the kids would never win because they always wanted to overcome their dad. Tom won because he sided with Logan, the Don Corleone of winning.
@@eangartvapakp6801 because Tom does love Shiv. his gold digging while also malicious is really just the reality of his situation. he tried so hard to have a healthy and fruitful marriage with her. kids, staying together in the business struggles. Shiv never really protected or looked out for Tom except for that small effort on the boat in season 2. Tom cares. Shiv doesn’t. Shiv being a wolf made a wolf out of Tom.
While yes he did marry Shiv, who her and her family are extremely rich, they make it very clear that he actually loved her from the beginning and he really tried to have a healthy relationship with her. I think that's the key factor in all of this, that he actually loved her. That's why I root for him, because now he's becoming his own man.
