Until now, this series has focused on watchmakers with rather small clienteles. But there are others In Britain hoping to convince larger audiences, and perhaps even, challenge the Swiss in the long term. One such company, which you’ve probably already heard of, is Bremont. In this week’s episode, we visit the company’s facilities in Silverstone and Henley-on-Thames, and find out just how close they are at bridging that gap. Absolutely love this series! Great to see a British company going against the popular demand for Swiss only luxury watches! Would love to feature Bremont on my channel when I'm next in the UK.

Switzerland rested on it's laurels when it reached the peak. Now Germany is curb-stomping them in the ultra-luxury market, and Britain is catching up in the high-end market.

Didn't Rolex start off in London? At that time Britain was one of the leaders in watch making. About time we took the crown back.

As an American. From the south so please not a Yank. But with ties to G.B. My ancestor was there next to W.T.C. at Hastings in 1066. I absolutely would love to see the title of Tick Tock HQ come back to England. If to just make Mr.Daniels smile. As I know he so wanted this. After all NOBODY. Was doing what that man was doing. But at one time. A time when the sun never set on England. The problem and solution of an accurate time keeping device was tackled there. H.M. Royal Navy was in great need of this. I'm sure this is exactly why the problem was England's.The sun surely never set on her Navy. There is just something about the mechanism that is a watch. A standard date complication a village as a Multiple complication Fly back is a city. When viewed from it's display back and one sees all that is going on. All to tell one the time month and date. While counting the seconds mins and hours in a day. Make it a split hand and I know a fellow who would offer up one of his family jewels. The right one I believe. In exchange for one made by a master. I myself will one-day build one by my own hands. Iv oved watches from an infant and My father would rap a kerchief around his G.I. issue Benrus and lay it by my ear. I'm told. If I was crying. I would quiet down instantly. My eyes slowly closing as, they believe I wanted then to then stay awake to listen to the watch. But would lose this battle. If the watch was removed to soon? I'd wake as soon as my ears no longer heard the ticking. I still will use this method if I can not relax and find sleep. At an early age I took everything apart. The putting it all back in order didn't come for several years. Iv now began to buy vintage mechanical pieces disassemble them service and re assemble them. Putting the little village back on the map again so to speak. This dream of building a watch from bespoke parts coupled with my O.C.D will undoubtedly come to fruition. A bad attribute to my O.C.D. I don't know how many bespoke parts will be tossed out. Perfectly serviceable but not matching the picture in my mind's eye. But in doing custom work on motorcycles this attribute though a pain in my tail. Has given me a reputation of turning out only the finest work, always above and beyond expected results. Every bolt turned the same every wire bent and terminated in mirrored lines. I believe all the fabricated parts, problem solving and setting standards higher than the stitching in a leather motorcycle seat ever needed. Has groomed me for building prototypes. Then A watch. Then more if we'll received. Perhaps one-day my name will come to mind when one thinks of. Fine craftsmanship with such attention to detail. One can almost see the people milling about the streets of a beautiful gilt metropolis. That fits on your wrist.

British watch making was dominant before the Swiss took the baton and ran with it. It's great to see Bremont and others swimming against the current Swiss made trend.

I think the British watchmakers generally are rather hampered by their rich traditions and end up as independents producing sinfully expensive timepieces. If companies like Charles Frodsham & Co. were Swiss or German they'd probably be giants in the watchmaking world by exploiting their heritage more efficiently (no serious watch enthusiast is fooled by the Arnold & Son brand).

One of the very few companies that are actually innovating rather than just updating case and movement materials.

They have rather small clienteles for a reason - because they are rip off artists trying to charge US$4k upwards for an assembly job
