Wow, I *love* the lack of faux-tina on these vintage homages. I've been hoping someone would do an homage like this, since I saw (and became slightly obsessed with) a 1655 with service dial and hands. The lack of availability is a bummer though.

I’ve owned this watch for two years and continue to love it. Olga was a joy to deal with and shipped this watch to me in Canada in a jiffy. When the Tudor BB Pro came out I was at my AD in a heartbeat, thinking it would replace my beloved Steinie. After trying on the Pro I left, disappointed, due to is odd proportions, and the Olko is still in my collection. My bank account is all the happier for it. Keep ‘em coming, Jody!

Do not mix steinhart with Tudor by any means. It was Rolex intention for Tudor to look like the corresponding Rolex model.

Picked up one of these earlier this year and its my daily go to, my biggest gripe is I couldn't size the bracelet, screws must have used superglue because I broke two cheapish precision drivers. But it looks great on any straps so I'll take it.

Wow! It’s amazing how much the stark white indeces changes the looks of this Steinhart. As you said, makes it seem a lot more modern. The flat sapphire crystal helps with that a bit as well. Love those female endlinks too. A fantastic and relatively affordable take on a long since discontinued classic! Awesome review as always Jody! It’s currently Fathers Day here in the UK as I’m watching this so happy Fathers Day to you!

Like this version more than regular one. Also I like Cyclop, I mean I always prefer a watch without a date, but in this case cyclop add some interesting notes in overall watch look. My only complain about cyclop, it should be 2x magnifier.

I like cyclops on rolex homages, but I feel like it's a little large compared to the crystal. I definitely like the white lume, even if it's a little dissapointing. I would love to see more homages without faux-tina, I don't have a problem with well executed faux-tina but I think it's far too easy to make it look worse than just plain white. Speaking of Rolex GMT homages, I would love to see your review of the Seiko 5 GMT when we eventually get one in the southern hemisphere.

My Steinhart vintage GMT is the 42mm with white indices, orange hand, domed crystal, no cyclops. I got it directly from Steinhart in Germany several years ago when we knew we were actually getting a real 2893, not an SW330.

Love it! It's an homage watch at its best. With a few tweaks (leaving away the crown guards and adding a bigger crown) a different handset and slightly different dial layout they could work this into a hot Blackbay Pro homage. 👍

I have owned the 42mm version for a little over 3 years now and wear it once a month for a week and I love it, it's never missed a beat and I think great value for money. People do ask about the watch when they see it on my wrist because it looks so different than a regular watch. I own 4 Steinharts and they all are very good watches, I sold every Seiko in my collection to buy the Steinharts and they are great watches, I only got shut of the Seiko's because I had an issue with the QC and they would do nothing for me, so that was the end of my relationship with Seiko. I now give my money to micro brands and you genrally get great value for your money.

Personally, I've never seen a cyclops I thought looked good. Best case scenario, it doesn't look bad. I also prefer the full white than the faux-tina. To be honest, tho, I think any Rolex copy is fair to love. If it's not similar enough for Rolex to sue, it's all fair game imo - even the still in production models - it's not like I can walk into an AD and buy the thing, is it?

Great review. I'm not normally a cyclops fan but this one seems bigger than usual and as such, doesn't distort the hands like crazy as with a smaller one -- more gradual edges maybe? Thanks, Jody!

Nice looking and well priced for what you're getting but the Christopher Ward C63 GMT has a better case, better finishing, applied indices, better lume, a quick release bracelet and toolless microadjustment on the clasp which are all things that are worth paying the extra cost for IMHO

One thing that I really appreciate about JOMW is the review and discussion of watches that are not always available as "new". A lot of channels skirt a fine line between delivering information and serving as a cheap form of advertising for the manufacturer. Reviewing the occasional watch that most of us are only going to be able to pickup second hand, reenforces how genuine Jody's passion for watches really is.

Love the reviews. You're one of the only guys I can tolerate listening to on a weekly basis. Reviews are always unbiased, thorough, and you're honest about sponsorship. Only frustration I have is that by the time your reviews post, the watches are usually sold out or otherwise NLA. Nature of the hobby I suppose.

Regarding the lume, that type of lime is used by citizen and bulova. It's on my Lunar Pilot. If you charge it up in sunlight for an hour it does last alot longer!!!

I prefer this version to the fauxtina and I don't mind having a cyclops but it's a pity the magnification isn't better. Great work with the video as always.

Was thinking the Christopher Ward Sealander 63 GMT still had the edge, until the movements in this one were mentioned. Same Sellita in both watches. CW are known for exceptional value, but this one has them beaten on that. I still prefer the intricate case finishing and the on-the-fly micro adjusting clasp of the CW, but it is also 300/400£ more expensive.

I was able to get one of these OLKO Rolex 1655 Steve McQueen Steinharts 6 weeks ago and I must say, it's a great watch! I have nothing to complain. Mine is about 5 sek/day plus and yes, the clasp could be a bit nicer. On the other hand it has 5 micro adjustment holes. The 39mm wears more like 40mm which I like. Great value for the money and really nice design and execution. After many years of thinking back and forth regarding Steinhart, I'm very impressed.

I bought this one as my work watch when they first came out about a year ago. Watch has taken a beating and has done fantastic. Couldn’t recommend it more. People that say the cyclops is too small look at it compared to the “9” marker that magnification almost matches it perfectly, really helps with the symmetry on the dial.

When the Seiko 5 GMTs come out in the next few weeks, I think they will compete directly with these. It's great to have so many options, especially if one is apprehensive about taking a much more expensive Rolex GMT traveling, with the risk of loss or theft.

I really like that Olko model. It's a shame that they're kind of hard to get a hold of. They sell out really quickly. Steinhart missed out in just making it a regular part of their catalog. It's obviously a good seller. I like the cyclops and the non-fauxtina look, so this smaller size model really ticks a lot of boxes. I think the original Rolex of that era is one of the best-looking watches of all time.

The Rolex 1655 is literally the only Rolex that I'd want to own. Such an interesting and unique watch, but absolutely ridiculous prices for a vintage one.

Well.. I don't think they're "missing out", since those are still their watches - they're just being sold through other vendors like Olko or Gnomon. There's probably a reason behind this strategy... like adding a touch of exclusivity to these models. If we can speak of exclusivity when we're talking Steinhart.. :)

Steinhart do a lot of non 'homage' watches, one of which, the Ocean ONE GMT Titanium I have. I think they're called broadsword hands rather than fence posts, but the blue and black ceramic bezel with BGW9 and the GMT movement make it one of the more eclectic pieces in my collection. I luv my Stynie....

I have it and I'd buy it again (running 2 secs slow). Wish the crown was larger in diameter-it feels much smaller than any seiko diver. The matte black dial with white markers and hands looks great-a more thought out complete design than the Gnomon version.

Love Steinhart watches, I have the Triton 10ATM & I bought my dad the Apollon - both watches haven't missed a beat in 10years and I think my Triton keeps better time than my Omega Seamaster, everyone should have a least one Steinhart in their collection, so much value for the price, very solid reliable watches.

I work outside using hand tools so my watches come off at times to save them the abuse. My litmus test so to speak is can I read it from a metre or 2 away. Plus I can admire my device from other angles that way... I am a goofy watch lover so whatever. Partly why I appreciate value over fluff because I work with them anyway this model is just right for good vis and durability of stainless. And a movement that is WORTHY of the price. Love the flat Sapphire and magnifing glass bling looks good on wrist. Thanks for posting always appreciate the review.

I've got the fauxtina 39, but still find myself wondering if should have got the flat crystal, white BGW9 version. Oftentimes I then think I prefer the fauxtina anyway as it makes the hour and minute hands stand out more as the hands are mostly white, it provides a nice contrast and the fauxtina goes very well with the warm orange GMT hand. I think in an ideal world, if it had white but one that was a green lume instead of blue, that would be the happy medium between the two, then it could appear to be a New mint / old stock 1655.

I'll argue that Rolex copies which do so in a color that Rolex has and probably will never make, like eg some of the more exotic San Martin or Invicta Pro Diver models, should also be considered acceptable

So should I go for the 39mm GMT with 1. White hour-marks, flat crystal and cyklops or 2. "Aged" hour marks, domed crystal, no cyklops. Already changed my mind twice... Both are marked with "soon available" at OLKO. For some reason, OLKO store is cheaper than Gnomon, $571 vs $649.

This particular design is not really my cup of tea, but I can definitely see why this model is kinda, sorta hard to get. I did have it and the 42 mm version on wrist a while ago and the 39mm makes the larger variant look downright goofy. One thing I really love about this version is the lack of fauxtina. While I'm not opposed to fauxtina per se, I'd like more of the Steinhart/Gnomon/Olko models to come with the option of either/or. Can't help but wonder how my 39 OVM would look with a "factory fresh" dial. Side note: IIRC, Olko do offer some vintage looking special edition Ocean One models that come with non-fauxtina dials. I think they still have their Comex homage on offer for example.
