The Rolex Submariner. Long-ish Term Review. Why I bought the submariner 3 times!

My omega seamaster went wrong three times in two years - I only had it on my wrist x2 months. Got a shop refund and bought a Rolex instead……….

I have 2 Rolexes. Each corresponding with the birth of my children. I've always wanted this Submariner though. Something about it not having a date window makes it look like a work of art. I purchased the black ceramic/titanium Omega Seamaster for the same reason. And yeah yeah, I actually did want and do love my Seamaster! 😅 My 45th Birthday is coming up. Maybe it's a good enough reason to finally get this Sub.

Never cared for this watch at all. Saying that all Omega owners really want a Submariner is quite snobbish and obviously not true. It’s like saying all Rolex owners wish they were in the Patek club. Nonsense.

​@@phildo864only if you need the money or it's losing value with time. I wore my sub for 5 years, had it serviced and sold it for $1,800 more than I paid. Used the money to buy the 126610 when it first dropped.

It’s fun to play around with it. Definitely make sure you have the correct tool, tolerances are tight so it’s easy to scratch. But it’s definitely the best on the bracelet

A part of my dies inside, I cry briefly, and then I move on 😆 no but seriously there’s no getting around it. Best thing to do is embrace it. Wear the hell out of it. Watches are for wearing.

Things to consider: did you get your sub for retail? Are you emotionally connected to it? If so forget about it, because while you hate the clasp on the 41mm (which is exactly what I hate about the new 41mm) you’ll find a way to hate the shoulders on the 40mm 😆 it’s a sickness my friend. And you have it bad just like me. You can always find something to nit pick about any watch. I love the tapered case on the 41, but the wider bracelet would bug me. Just remember, you have a submariner, wear it, enjoy it, don’t let the details ruin it for you.

I love watches...a tudor bb58 is being a great way of me getting into this hobby of horology without braking the bank and NO buyers remorse at all. My next serious purchase will be the Rolex Submariner no date ( I hope 🤪) it will be worth the wait and struggle, I have no doubt! Thank you again Chris!!!

@@luiscaballero5493 it’ll be worth it because you waiting patiently for it, worked hard, and it’ll remind you of that. Just don’t take it for granted like I do sometimes and forget that it’s all you really need. Side note the Tudor isn’t a cheap watch, I think it’s easy in this hobby to get caught up in videos of watches that cost exorbitant amounts of money, we lose perspective. The BB58 can serve a man proudly for many lifetimes. I hope you’re proud of the fact that you own that watch right now.

I’ll choose Submariner! Classic and iconic. No doubt GMT is nice but I feel after few years you might get tired of coloured bezel.

I was going to add, I was super lucky to get the Panda Daytona at retail 5.5 years ago but that AD can’t sell me a Datejust now so built a new relationship with an AD and managed to get a DJ41 blue dial (fluted bezel on jubilee) as they said if I get the non sports model will help me get sports later. Even though I have smaller wrist the 41mm still just about works fine. So just have the two pieces (Steel Daytona and DJ41 blue) currently, for my next (third piece and won’t be adding for ages) would you personally go for the Submariner or the Explorer 36 or the Submariner? I prefer the idea of the Submariner (even though there are things that I don’t necessarily love like the clasp but can learn to live with these) as it’s a classic as I see it as a more of a icon but the Explorer..there is something pure about it that also makes it attractive even if sometimes comes across ‘boring’ to some….”

@@rezar6894 I’ve never heard of someone who was able to get a daytona and afterwards cannot get a DJ that’s a new a one. But awesome that you were able to snag that up before the hype, I’m on the list 🙃. As far as the sub vs explorer, it seems like you are leaning sub so it would be easy to recommend going that way. But the explorer would be a nice size change up from what’s already in your collection. I very much love the explorer, and would love to add the new 36. Yes it’s boring but it’s supposed to be. The design is perfect, it’s beautiful because of its simplicity. And the size is very classic. Explorer won’t turn any heads but your own. Ultimately you can’t go wrong with either. And at the end of the day you’re gonna have both. So which one do you want first? which one fits your lifestyle now?

@@ChristopherNegroni - thanks man, I know it’s crazy that I was able to get the Daytona with no prior purchase in 2017 but nothing since. They offered me the two tone Explorer but wasn’t a fan. Anyway, such is life! Makes sense about the Sub and the Explorer…perhaps best just to take which one they offer me first. Having two very young kids, a big mortgage etc…I’m trying not to go over board with my spending as doesn’t feel right hence trying to justify just getting one and the maybe another some years later. I want to try and have a compact collection of 3-5 watches that all get decent wear time….anymore I just feel is not justified as some will end up just sitting there and I could have spent those funds elsewhere, hence trying to be focused. But you are right…both are great. Probably if I had the choice, I would choose a submarine first just find it versatile and an icon. Many people in my industry (finance/banking) have one but still love it. Ultimately would be great to have a GMT too then I would have a classic everyday in the DJ41, chrono in the Daytona, diver in the Sub, dual time in GMT and I guess Explorer for any situation when looking to fly under the radar. Appreciate your help and keep up the good work with the channel 🍺

It’s a great watch. I just found something minor that bugged me.

i sold my sd4k for a profit but I do miss it. it was the only 40mm ceramic tapered lug dive watch. big hour markers super lume. it was awesome. just a but to top heavy bit I miss it. I know in years to come, it will be worth a ton because it's such a small number created

I prefer the slimness of the GMT and the jubilee is more comfortable. But I wear the sub more because it feels more substantial, isn’t as polished, and doesn’t scratch so easily.

You’re right I should have thrown shade on Blancpain, because every fifty fathoms that you can buy is too big, and clunky. And when they do make a nice 40mm version we want they make it limited ie the no rad.

They may have technical been the first but Rolex did it better 😜 and still does
