Wow. Thank you for posting this. I was at this show. Stones made us wait because they were 2 hours late. We had to watch a high wire act. Before the Stones came on, helicopters flew above us and dropped colored ping pong balls and sex blow up dolls. It was a wild and fun time!
@@cindyeliabarnett5829 Yeah, they did - I wish we had that video! Two helicopters came over the stadium and the blow up sex dolls were falling - it was crazy..Also, if memory serves, both Eddie Money and Santana were the opening acts!!
I too was at the show - as I recall, Eddie Money and Carlos Santana were the warm up acts! Yeah, I remember the helicopters - wish I had taken pictures!
I was there about 20ft from stage partied all night at the gate. Stones where about 2 hrs late. Eddie Money, Santana, Peter Tosh also. Great Bday party for Mick. Got some great Pics. Took about three days to hear again!
From what I've read & understand, the Stones showing late was always possible. I think a certain % of that related to Jagger's swollen ego. By the way, I'm a big fan. Since at least 1972. Grew up hearing them on the radio. Seen them 5× in concert.
Thank you! I was there, relatively close to the stage. High as a kite on LSD purchased from an aging long haired hippy while standing in line waiting to get in... I was 17. I was blown away by Eddie Money's performance that day as well.
We were there facing the Big Mouth stage ! ...Frank Taormina and my buddy Greg Murrison. Never forget it ! Thanx for the audio. It goes into my collection.
I have to say that I was at this concert and I only remember the Stones playing. I got in for free because someone gave me a ticket (thank you whoever you were). I was an art school student, loved the Stones and it was the second time that I saw them perform. The first time was at JFK Stadium in D.C. Stevie Wonder opened for them. Thanks for putting this on RU-vid because now I check out the performers that I don't remember.
My first DOG, but not the last. Seeing a band back then was sooo cool. You could party and walk anywhere you wanted too. Compared to back then, concerts these days suck.
They were 2 hours late to just about every gig on that tour. The tension built up made their arrival delirious to the audience.Beast of Burden was the highlight of every concert on this tour!
You posted the first rock concert I ever attended. I was 17. Thanks. A few things ,,,This concert marked the end of their '78 tour....They added a stop in the Bay Area to round out the tour...Keith had been busted for possession of a massive amount of heroin some time earlier and the whole tour was played while the media wondered if the Stones could go on without Keith, if he had to serve time.. The Stones were very late on stage that day...two or three hours...Santana, Eddie Money and I think Peter Toshwere the opening acts...I remember watching Keith...He played with his back to the audience a lot...People around me said Mick had really slowed down...I never would have known...He was all over the place...Finally, I never thought I'd hear the actual show again, thanks.
+cHRIS A THIS WAS THE 1ST TOUR I SAW THE STONES , MY BROTHER TOOK ME TO SEE THEM IN PHILLY , AND IT RAINED , I REMEMBER PETER TOSH OPENING , AND THE FANS DIDN'T DIG HIM WE WANTED THE STONES , JAGGER WAS PISSED OFF , AT WHAT HAPPENED TO PETER BUT THAT'S ROCK N ROLL
Thanks for this got back stage stickers from a buddy , had a great day with uncle bill(Bill Graham) body slammed some kid that jumped the fence at Bills request, that got me another upgrade to luxury box from Bill. Great memories!
I was in the Bleachers way up high! It was an amazing day! The day the City shut down! Remember how loud this was? The 2 hours of stacking up extra amplifiers and speakers? The Brownouts? What a RUSH!
I was also at this show when I was 17. I still have my ticket stub - $12.50, which wasn't cheap at the time. I was close enough to the stage that I caught some of the ping pong balls that were tossed from the helicopters that swooped in right before the Stones came onstage. The giant blow-up dolls they tossed were not as easy to snag.
Mitch I was 22 and an Army lieutenant station at Fort Ord near Monterey. I attended the concert with 2 other LTs that day. I am so glad you mentioned the helicopter with the ping pong balls and blow up dolls. That entrance (with copter) is always part of my story of that great show. I remember the blow up dolls were about 3/4 size, with legs apart in a V that made them aerodynamic. They floated down in a spiral…and were then gleefully grabbed and dry humped as the Stones roared.
