Interesting symbolism with ferns: they’re one of the most ancient plants still alive. At 300 million years old, they’re so old they actually predate both pollination and the dinosaurs. Which means that their species witnessed and survived a LOT of death and mass extinction events. As countless others died, the ferns lived on

This feels like a rather deep story... Characters that committed something that cost at least one person (usually way more people) suffering, for completely sympathetic reasons, but can never tell about their past to their new friends lest they are ready to lose them and have them hate them forever... They always break my heart so bad. This is a heavy burden, that everyone loves to pretend they could never have to carry. This shit is the reason why I do not turn away from people who confess some fucked up stuff to me - everyone deserves someone who can at least listen and be a step towards redemption, nobody should just be cast away into obscurity for shit they never can undo but wish they could grow from.

this song reminds me of the time 5 years ago when I was walking down my local park and a deer came to me and asked for my help and we ran away together on a mission to dethrone god herself

Something I find interesting is she switches between implying her leaving was intentional and not. Especially between the lines “I never meant to leave, trapped in captivity” and “the world abandoned by Fern, who ran away.”

I really like the story and also i hope things get better cedar and fern deserve some happy, i dont know why fern left but it really didnt seem like she wanted to leave
