Crying my eyes out here. I grew up in Stockport where the Royle family is set and my Dad was a Liverpudlian like Jim. He died 5 years ago but he always used to sing 'How to handle a woman'. This clip totally took me by surprise. I'm a wreck.
The Royle Family was superb. The humour isn't as on the nose like a lot of sitcoms, but the portrayal of working class family life was so well observed and acted. IMHO it is one of the best shows ever produced for British TV. RIP Caroline Aherne. Such a great talent.
I love that this is the only episode i remember where Jim gets up and makes the tea, because he knows that Barbara and Denise need some 'women time' in the living room. Proves that under that exterior there's still some consideration.
Jim made a brew during barb menapausal thing after barb stormed out she cooled down came home then Jim made the brew saying he didn’t want to be a millionaire as he had a million pound of love . Barb and Jim played husband and wife in brookside.
As a few people have said, Trill is a brand of bird seed. If someone is fired from their job for stealing it’s common to hear the phrase “they were caught with their hand in the till”. So, it’s just a pun. “Josh it” for dying is something I’ve never heard anywhere apart from this scene. Being from the south, when I first saw this years ago I just presumed it was a northern expression. Is it?
It's such good, natural acting. The casting's spot on too. You just know that if Ricky Tomlinson (Jim) and Sue Johnston (Barbara) had a son together in real life, he'd look exactly like Ralph Little (Anthony).
Walking down the street in ragged clothes is not a joke, People point me out and call me "beggar" 'cause I'm broke, But there' one little lad and he calls me "dad", Shake hands with a millionaire!
Hiya Josh, sorry its a little late, I wish A United States Network would show The Royal Family as being a typical Northern English Household, and not adapt it to an American Audience, The Royal Family was made By BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation), my favorite character is Twiggy, played by Geoffrey Hughes, most Northern English families on housing estates a like this, mine included, this is Choppy in Whitehaven, Cumberland, England
Cleethorpes ref! (where I'm from), good childhood memories of summers at the caravan park. Best thing in the "olden days" was the Video games! new ones coming out every year, it's all just fruit machines now, very sad.
@@davidz3879 I didn't say it was better just that it wasn't exactly a bad thing either. It was left to the imagination. Seeing Dave and Denise describe the scene here was entertaining in itself. That was one of the charms of the Royals. we rarely saw them out of their home or interacting with many others. It was them in their little world
Denise - If you think I'm marrying you now you pig , I'm not , look , look. Lmao Everytime i know this episode is on i am waiting for that line said by denise , because it's the first thing that reminds me of this episode lol.
