My number one tip to fix the alarm it’s a must. I’ve had three walkers over the years and love them.

I’ve got a t27 which is great but when you mow up thick leaves, go slow and use 1/3 to 1/2 of the deck width. You will find that’s quicker than blowing, mulching and double handling the leaves. The bin alarm is a must. When mine goes off you need to stop immediately but leave blades running for about 5 seconds to clear the blower tube.

When it clogs up, instead of raising the deck and cleaning from underneath, use a blower to clear the clogs. Put the tip of the nozzle in the chute and easily unclog it.

Usually I find that if you’re going to fast and are trying to pick up a lot of debry that’s when it will clog up so I usually go slower and watch for the tell tale signs that it is clogging

The alarm is common, quick easy fix they're like $20 I always keep a spare they go out occasionally. As far as the fire, I've heard of many guys having that issue. I never have but that being said I blow my machines completely off after every lawn and that seems to help. I hated dealing with those clogs during leaf season. This year with the Versimow x blades, haven't had that once and you see the leaves I deal with. Can't wait to try in the Spring because I get that same clog in thick wet grass. I would mess with that lever. Mine doesn't pop out on either machine. There's adjustment bolts to them that hold tension inward. Glad you're enjoying it, they're a love/ hate machine but I'll never go back.

I’ll look at fixing that alarm for sure if it’s only $20. I may have to look at the x blades and see if that helps me out. Thanks for the help man!

I have a 40 year old Walker and it still does a wonderful job. The previous owner was a lawn and garden service and his employees beat the crap out of it but I have fixed many things that they damaged. I have learned to listen for the change in sound when the box is filling up plus I reach around on the right side and try to lift the box. I have learned what it feels like when the box is nearly full of leaves or grass. I also only take half swaths when doing heavy leaves and raise the deck up higher than when mowing. Even though the deck is higher it still sucks the leaves up with no problem. I do not have the dump system that you have nor do I have the type of easy lift deck you have. As I said, mine is very old, It has the 16 horse cast iron Kohler and runs great for a 40 year old mower. I have had it for about 30 years now. She aint pretty but she sure knows how to dance.

Kevin, Another suggestion for leaves is to lift the front of the deck up 1 or 2 holes on the adjustment. This seems to help. Also only take about 1/2 the deck when they is so much then come.back and make another pass with deck lower. I am glad you are happy eith your purchase.

I get rid of the fill switch all together, it can contribute to clogging I had trouble keeping working any way. You can tell when you gone to far. I also check or monitor the air flow coming from the back of your box raise the spring flap a little when that air low stop your about ro stop up or already have. Install the discharge screen that allows more air to flow thru the catcher. Raise the front of the deck higher than the back, and if it clogs on me I sometimes just go ahead and mulch the leaves while it's clogged. I haven't tried reverse rotation deck yet I would think that would be a good choice for dense leaves.

Also depending on the age of the mower make sure you check the voltage regulator is relocated to the motor bay. If you don’t and the rear tails go flat you will rip it off
@jaradrobinson2975

Its great, no spray saves time blowing grass spray and clean up on job site. I have the clog problem as well. I assumed it was wet grass clumping but even dry grass does. It takes a lot of time to unclog it several times. I raise the deck. Clean out deck shoot, leave back box up, run motor in park, cut on blades in to blow out schute tube. But deck shoot always gets clogged quickly.
@reelredroom
@reelredroom 2 года назад
I find that turning into the leaves with the side of the deck cuts down on clogs because the blades get a better shot at crunching up the leaves before the reach the blower intake, only problem is the wheels might peel out the turf if you’re not careful but this can be avoided with practice. Another idea is when you’re sucking up leaves go a bit slower and leave the back of the hopper (bin) open so that they blow out and then suck them up after once they’re smaller.
@ruthford112

On thicker layers of leaves I mulch first with gator blades then go over it with the bagger to pick up all I can, which is about 15 percent of the original volume of leaves.

When I was in business doing leaf cleanup I would have someone first mow the yard right ahead of me with a mulching deck then the walker does the actual clean up. Both mowers being used at the same time works fast. I see on your video you have already figured this out .

Seems the muffler slots allow leaf debris to get behind the shield , perhaps a sheet metal shield add to the out side in an upside down L shape would help , or making the slots larger to allow the debris to escape the oven before flames happen .

As its been said the mower makes a more muffled sound when its about full. Try setting the front pins a few notches higher than the back pins for deep leaves then set them to the same height for a final cut. Also check out the versimow products. Defently look into getting the shredder blades and plug for the summer months.

Ya gotta love a walker!....I have a 20 yr old MTD 48 ghs kubota diesel walker. Hour meter went at 800 hrs so no telling how many hours this thing has. All in all I’ve spent 2500 dollars in it this year. It was my wife’s grandpa’s so anyway. It done awesome all mowing season. Got into leaf season and it just wasn’t performing. It would clog every 5-10 minutes. I almost sent into the lake at one property! I was so frustrated. When I would flip the deck up to clean under and into the chute going to the blower I was feeling a piece of loose metal (on the chute from the deck to the blower there’s a piece of what I call flashing that’s about 1-2” thick around the house where it meets the blower. That piece of metal is just riveted on there. Probably due to its age it was just worn lose and wasn’t allowing the debris to get into the blower. Long story short put a new chute coming from the deck to the blower fan and it sucked harder than a hook on some mlk drive trying to make a buck! One thing I noticed helps to is to make sure the vents on the side of the deck stay clean too. They can come compacted and doesn’t allow the deck to breath or circulate as good. That and just keep the screen clean and keep your ground speed as fast as the conditions allow for. I’ve liked my walker this year but I really haven’t just loved it. It’s one of those tools I think you do need though. Cuts and striped like nothing else. But it’s slow and mud and isn’t worth a flip on any bit of slope. I want to add a 48” scag with clamshell I think to go along with my 61” cheetah 37 vanguard. I’m also planning to pick up the new exmark commercial 30 X series next year which is suppose to have the improved transmission and bigger engine. But a walker mower or an equivalent has it place no doubt. Guess you could say I have a love hate relationship with my walker. But like my dealer says can spend a little here an there on it or fork over 16-20k for a new one lol

I don’t have the burning issue on mine since it’s the diesel and the muffler is different. My beeper doesn’t work either. After I got it I noticed it was just unplugged. Plugged it up it beeped one time when it got full then haven’t heard it since. But with the diesel I can tell instantly when it’s full by the sound of the engine it was changed immediately and I’ve learnt to listen for it even with my head phones on

Fall River sure thing bud. If when you reach your hand into that chute and you feel any obstruction in there then it’s not going to let the debris get to the blower to pull it into the hopper. Good luck with it. They can be frustrating for sure. I love it/hate it hate it/love it.
@bloomsandbladeslawncare4629
@bloomsandbladeslawncare4629 4 года назад
Mulching first is fine and dandy but you have to spread them as well before you sweep them. It thins them out and allows them a time to dry out a bit before you hit them. So, when you use your mower, put your side discharge on, to thin them out. Most important is go slow. the machine has to have time to sweep, swallow, and then digest the leaves just like you do when you eat a salad. If you swallow whole you choke and going fast will do that to your bagging system.

Try having a new $14000 walker with the flames 😳. As far as clogging, I pitch my deck 1/4 to a 1/2 inch higher in the front. If mine clogs I turn it into a mulching deck, hit everything, unclog it, then hit everything again and it doesn’t clog. Love/hate machines

Worked for a company and the walkers were ALWAYS in the shop. We spent more time on loaner mowers than the company mowers. I use Toro personally and havent had really any issues that were major. We just moved to a ranch to caretake and theres a brand new (residential) R21 Walker. 16 hours on it. I mowed for 10 minutes yesterday and it broke. They use a strut as a belt tensioner instead of a traditional spring. Strut is blow rendering the mower inoperable. I also spent 2 years working for a small engine shop/ mower dealer. We absolutely hated working on walkers so much to the point the owner today doesnt work on them at all. Too much labor time and most customers dont like the sticker shock when they come to pay the bill. He sends them down the road to the walker dealer. We didnt like working on them because of how tight they pack stuff and to do almost any engine work youve got to pull the motor. We saw gear box failures, collection system failures, electrical issues the most. The blades were also more expensive. The machines themselves cost more as an initial investment and due to the complexity of the design they cost a hell of a lot more in maintenance than say a typical style zero turn of good quality. This is my unique experience and everyones mileage will vary.

I run walker mowers myself for my lawn care business, and what I would say to do for the clogging so quickly issue would be to make sure you have proper tension on the pto belt as well as having correct engine rpms at full throttle. With the pto engaged at full throttle I believe the factory spec is 3700+-. 3900 no load. That should help, I use 48 decks and I think they can handle more with the wider debris opening and shoot.

Often to get this process started you need to make the edges of these areas a little more dense with a back pack blower so that they won't go under the deck & will push up into a pile instead.
