Nice job Kevin.... I have painted my deck or others in the past dozens of times... For the future Cat Yellow Rustoleum from our hardware store is what I consider is an EXACT match to Walker yellow.
I need to paint mine as well. I’ve got to got to rebuild some components on the deck the gear box an an shaft or something another. About 1000 dollars worth my dealer said. It could use painting. I’d like to just get a new deck and the new style hopper on it and I’d be pretty much new at that point. It’s got the kubota diesel. No telling the hours. Meter went out around 800-909 hours. It’s a 2001 model.
I have 4 walkers 3 old and one new and that's all I use for fall cleanup s all you have to do is open the Hooper mulch the leaves come back and collect them . it pushs piles better them any mower to.
I know that the tractor has a lot of hours on it but you got some really nice features on it like the deck height adjustment that's an $800 option and the high lift power on the dump that's like $400 option so you got a really good deal on that mower even if the engine blows did you get a new engine for and you have a sweet mower I have a brand new 2018 would fuel injection and I love this mower you'll like it too
The bubbling/texture result is called "orange peel". It can often be removed with wet sanding and buffing, if it's not too bad. When using spray cans, it's usually caused by letting off the spray while still over the object being painted. As you depress the button, the paint stops coming out but there's still air pressure behind it which causes the paint to spread. You just gotta paint more my man, you'll get it down. As far as stickers, I'd contact Walker, give them your model and tell them what stickers you need. You can also download the sticker images from their owners manual (usually) then take it to a sticker business and get it done. Walker may send them out for free since it's an older model but they might charge too. Not sure, I've never dealt with them. Good job on gettin 'er done. You got to start somewhere.
Justin Dayard thanks for all the tips! This was my first time painting something this big. That paint didn’t start bubbling until I put the clear on. From everything I read it sounds like I just put it on to soon. Again thanks for all the info.
you can try glazing compound to fill areas where paint has been removed so it blends seamlessly with areas wher paint is still on the deck. I did this on my snowblower and it worked great. Going to try it on my new (to me) walker deck in the near future.
You should have removed the old pain, before you painted over it! There are a few restoration channels I'd recommend you look at: tysytube, my mechanics, rescue and restore. Each one of those channels eat either uses a paint stripper gel or lsandblast machine to get rid of rust and paint.
Matt Dougherty I talked about the sand blaster at the end of the video but never really thought about using a paint stripper. It still turned out good enough for me. I think it looks good.
Hey Kevin, just watched your video. Congrats on the walker and it turned out well. I found a link for some decals you can check out. www.precoparts.com/walker-mower-parts/walker-5809-2-nr-decal-walker-logo.html also www.propartsdirect.net/walker-t23-decals.aspx
That turned out great. Even better than what I call 60/40. 60 mph-40 yards away. By the time it gets covered with grass you won’t see those little flaws in the repaint.the black trim does bust up the yellow and make it look good. The way it was before you repainted it would need a lot of grass and to cover that up.
That looks good Kevin. Lucky you got the one with a power dump as well. My first Walker dosen't have it and in the fall your back hurts from lifting al the weight. My 2nd Walker has the power dump and its a back saver. You're gonna love it.
Had very much difficulty in painting a walker I believe walker uses a enamel if you paint lacquer over enamel it's like using paint remover and like everyone else I'm not paying 25dollars for 12 Oz of paint I can go to jd and paint it green and it will look good 😉
welcome to the walker family i have owned a 2006 walker msghs 42" Kawasaki 400fe i currently own a 2018-2019 walker s18 dc42r" ghs it has the narrow tires currently when i had a dc36r" ghs deck setup my turning radius is a lot tighter.
