Poseidon: banged with half of Greek population Zeus: banged the other half of the Greek population that didn’t bang with Poseidon Hades: stay loyal to Persephone
Well there was this one story about Hades with a nymph named Minthe which caused Persephone to fly into a jealous rage, that she started to kick and stomp her to death. Persephone was the one to fear, because she was called either Dreaded Persephone or The Iron Queen.
@@stainshield minth didn't sleep with hades in any of the three versions. she went to his bed and readied herself but.... 1. hades killed her 2. persephone turned her into a plant 3. persephone asked hades to do "it" on a mountain while demeter killed minth on persephone's request
It's not like women were treated as equals to men back then because they weren't. Men often cheated on their wives and got away with it, but if a woman cheated on her husband, she would be labelled as an Adulterer.
IKR, whenever I read that line I laugh so hard because it seems like Zeus falls in love with every female out there that I don't even think he has standards at all 😂 . And at the same time, I feel sorry for whoever he wants to sleep with. He's so gross
actually one time Hera did coup against Zeus and wanted to take over Olympus. All gods took part in coup except Hermes who was loyal to Zeus. When coup succeeded gods fought against each other who would take a throne.
She could never stand up to Zeus except for this one time when she had enough and all the other gods had enough of Zeus as well, and they chained Zeus to his bed while he was sleeping. However Zeus eventually was freed and the uprising failed.
No, please don’t call most of them lovers. Zeus fooled them and even kidnapped them away from their family and friends and had their way with them. And they paid with it Hera’s wrath.
@@joshbrescia4139 Not always, and certainly not in this case. Semele knew perfectly well that she was getting shagged by her married great grandpa. The little idiot even asked him to come to her as he did for his wife, which was how she learned that fire and lightning are bad for the health of mortal little girls.
17:48 I heard that Calisto was one of Artemis'es Maiden and her favorite of them all. She was tricked by Zeus (who transformed into Artemis) to do *you guess what* and was forced to bear his child. She felt guilty for being taken advantage of and tried to hide the fact to Artemis. When she found out, she punished her. Not for breaking her vow (because it wasn't her fault) but for lying to her and not trusting her enough to set her free. So as a punishment, she made her into a bear and told her that if she sees her again, she'll hunt her.
the most ridiculous fact hera never cheated on zeus and zeus punished all those who desired her (driven wether by lust or love) in the most terrible way possible
@@brandonwheaton1081 Not really sure what that has to do with the original comment. Still, you're right although I think part of why that happened because Hera was tired of Zeus flinging his yik yak in other women.
One myth I heard was that Hera had plotted against Zeus once, but failed. She was then forced to agree to never plot against him again, and since the gods had to hold their promises, she couldn't punish Zeus for his affairs, and took it out on the girls instead.
I recently read in a book that zeus, poseidon and other male gods had male lovers which was very interesting to me because it looked like the rules of gender don't apply to them. They see something beautiful they just take it for themselves
In ancient Greece/Rome the genders were not defined as we do. Male = active and Female = passive. As long as you are the active partner, you are considered as virile enough. On the other hand being a passive man was labeled Μαλακος (malakos = soft) and the insult still exist in modern greek (malaka).
@@Doctor_Fate5 you can’t compare zeus to Bhagwan Shiva as he is the primordial being, the creator , he’s cosmopolitan he is indescribable unaffected by greed , lust , anger, jealousy and other sins. He the creator of all and destroyer of all Universe, multiverse and multidimensional objects. Bhagwaan shiva and Vishnu are not born nor they will die . They will remain till the end of this universe and for the creation of new universe and so on…. Zeus himself is not the primordial of heavenly beings There were titans before him……
@@learningmadeezzy808 its same thing dude and Zeus defeated primordial beings and hence became King of god's he is a successor and prior to birth of Jesus Christ the Greeks used to worship Zeus as supreme reality with no beginning and end and other Greek gods
Reminder, Hera originally did everything in her power to avoid Zeus because she could see what a scumbag he was. Zeus then tricked Hera, basically assaulted her, then blackmailed her into marrying him. As the Goddess of Marriage she cannot and could not get out of her marriage. She has only ever attempted to personally punish Zeus once. She formed a revolt alongside Poseidon, Athena, Apollo, and attempted a coup d'etat against Zeus. Zeus was saved by a body guard, quickly dispatched the other gods, then hung Hera with golden chains in the sky. She cried in pain all night. Zeus then told her she'd be released if no more rebellions or make direct actions against him. She agreed and was released. The only thing she can do now is punish anyone who violates the "sanctity" of her marriage but not Zeus himself. Can you imagine being stuck in an eternal relationship like that?
@@AAaa-pm3rr Because, as I stated above, she cannot act against him directly. That was part of their deal for him releasing her from her golden chains.
So Zeus tricked his wife and she was shamed about being taken advantage of so she married Zeus, so I thought it would made her more understanding towards these women instead being jealous and get back at them
@@hakureikura9052 I love the Riordanverse as much as anyone, but no, Nico, Bianca, and Hazel don't count. He did cheat (nearly) on her, though, right? Leuce and Minthe?
Hera represents the most women on earth, for ages forgiving husband, boyfriend etc that cheats on them while praying for the lovers to die. This is ridiculous.
@@bangtanpinkvip7513 She is overshadowed by Aphrodite Goddess of Love & Beauty the gods are jealous of mortals & yet constantly use them as play things. They must've been very bore being immortals & having powers to do things mortals only dream of.
Pearl Tete Shame he gets a bad rep as the ‘evil’ god simply because he rules the underworld (since rulers of the underworld in many other mythologies are the evil ones, like Set in Egyptian mythology). Edit: Anubis is the god of the underworld, not Set
@@donacello789 Oh yeah you're right Set was actually the God of Evil lol. Osiris was the God of the Underworld and he was often depicted as level headed.
Abdoulhay Ceesay as an added bonus, there was no exact “underworld” for Egyptians. Instead they had one of 24 nomes of sort that represented one hour of the day that Ra would sail through and one of these was the realm of the dead. One of the few ancient cultures that seem to have a very unique depiction of how the world works.
This is why Hades is my favorite god because he is more faithful to Persephone than any of his other siblings . And hes supposed to be depicted as a "bad guy" .
Yeah! Cause them share up the best parts and Hades had no chance to choose. Gets stuck with under the world to rule. How many souls does it take to clean up all that ashes?
I’m so sick of Hara she always punishes the girls for sleeping with Zeus and I’m sick of Zeus to every girl that he sleeps with ends up dead turned into something by his wife why did he never learn and then when he gets caught he really can’t help the girls that he put in this predicament and then on top of that he slept with his nieces and cousins it makes my head hurt
Omg I just wanted to share that we had a role playing back when I was in grade 10 and I played the role as Hera whereas send IO far away and torture her because of betrayal that Zeus had made. Don't mind me guys I was just overwhelmed by that memories of mine and give me a smile to think that I once became Zeus's wife in role playing hahaha
Hera being Zeus sister is defendsable in the fact that there aren't really that many gods so most of them are related so it was either her or mortals who would die far sooner than any god so while it true it's disgusting but this is also the guy that sleeps with everything that breaths as anything that breaths
The women were mostly humans or weaker spirits, they could do nothing to the gods. Also she did once join a rebellion against zeus, they chained him up while he was asleep, but another god then freed him and zeus confronted the rebellion and made them promis with binding magic to never rebel against him again. For here's punishment she was strung up by her ankles for several days until she made the deal. In the Greek myths zeus was much stronger than the other gods, even all together. In one he is pulling on a chain, and all the other gods are pulling against him yet he was winning.
I just think that since Zeus ‘gave birth’ (or whatever) to Athena is probably the reason why he values her so much as his daughter, just like how a mother gives birth to her child and how a mother (should) love her child.
That IS the reason why. It gives him and the other men reason to say “Zeus gave birth! Men don’t need women to have children! Men/fathers are superior!”
One myth about Dionysus tells how Zeus had to hide the infant from Hera, so he gave him to Hermes who then delivered the baby to the Lamidas, who were River Nymphs. Unfortunately, Hera caused them to go mad and they nearly killed Dionysus, who was rescued by Hermes and taken to the Greek Goddess, Ino for Fostering. Hermes told Ino to raise Dionysus as a female, to protect him from Hera. This is why in many statues depicting the God, he has feminine features.
The picture of Lamia in 9:17 reminds me of Cleopatra or some Egyptian vibe to me none the less this is one of my favourite stories out of my other 3.❤
Phoebe Buffay wow did you just learn that? Well if you think back during Jesus times, Roman soldiers patrolled and “kept” the peace. It’s really not that impressive since they were all evil.
How bizarre is this fact that abduction in Greek mythology is taken so casually while it is portrayed as an act of evil in the Indian mythology and those who tried to play with women's dignity saw their folks defeated and their kingdom turned into ashes no matter how powerful they were, in the Indian mythology. I'm sorry if i sound rude but saw a lot of women in Greek mythology suffering without any fault and they even ended up accepting this as their fate. Eg.- lilth turning into medusa, Persephone's abduction!
@@omarsalem1219 Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that version of the legend a reinterpretation done by a Roman scholar or something? I recall a version where Medusa was a gorgon since birth and she had two older sisters, Stheno and Euryale, but she was mortal while her sisters weren't. Unless I'm misremembering, I think they were children of Echidna? I could be wrong on that one, though.
People say Hera should've gone after Zeus but the thing is, Hera is not only the queen of gods but also the goddess of marriage. She has to stay loyal to her husband and she has to be only with him. That is why other gods and goddesses might sleep with many mortals but Hera doesn't. Hades stays loyal to Persophone but even he had affairs for a long time
Athena can never get used to it, which is kinda the reason she transformed Arachne, she was grossed out by a tapestry showing her dad and uncle banging random chicks.
I’m surprised he goes along with it actually. He loathes Zeus for abandoning his mother (he was literally born in a cave and on the day he was born, he vowed to be an Olympian)
Honestly i'd rather hang out with Hades all day then any of the other gods in Greek mythology. I'll never understand why he's always portrayed as the bad guy when he isn't.
you know what.. you are sooo right.. that's always my and my sister's reaction.. and we just thought maybe they didnt really know about Greek mythology..
Hera tried a coup once. She was punished severely and had to pomise not to attack Zeus ever again thus she couldnt punish him, only have revenge on his lovers.
@@deren2001 Me being one of them lol. So his worship never died you know. Not only him but all the God's are still well honoured today. You know monotheistic God's were never my thing, I never related to them in any aspect. That's why I honor the Greek pantheon but as a pagan I don't mind adding other God's in my practice.
