Trying to figure out what the last PSA was trying to talk about. Were they like comparing losing their animals to losing a loved one to suicide? As it's a charity hotline for those in crisis I would've assumed. Idk I tried looking on the PSA wiki but didn't see anything
(I like your pfp) Most likely representing how people tend to dumb down situations when they're involved with mental health. Think of a person's reaction to a pets death. A majority might be devastated, but most people tend to overlook the situation. It's unfortunately the same with suicides.
That last one is in relation to the Foot & Mouth crisis that went on during 2000-2001. Because of the massive risk to their livestock being infected, farmers had to cull their entire herds and incinerate the bodies to prevent the disease from spreading. While farmers are in the business of breeding animals for food, they do often form attachments to said animals and, as that film shows, the epidemic dealt a serious blow not only to their livelihoods but their emotional wellbeing.
Losing livestock is so saddening for those who raise them. It could be from a famine or other natural disaster. It's can be just as devastating as losing a loved one or going through any other traumatic experience. Or if could be how some people may downplay/dumb down other people's suffering when it's doesn't matter at all. Suffering is suffering.
The “Telephone” PSA we see at 2:09 is a representation of struggling to cope with the things that weigh you down. The man (portrayed by the phone) is constantly being annoyed by his wife wanting a divorce, his daughter wanting him back, the court finding him guilty, etc. All of this makes the man be like, “That’s it! I can’t take this anymore! I’ll just kill myself and end it here!” There are lots of things that weigh us down in everyday life. Some are overwhelming, traumatizing, and downright depressing, and they bother us so much to the point where we just end our lives.
These are PSAs from an organization called The Samaritans. Their objective is to help those who are going through a mental crisis, contemplating suicide, or feeling stressed out. Also to spread awareness about the importance of mental health and how it's ok to reach out for assistance no matter who you are or what you're going through. The Samaritans provide a hotline for those who need support (similar to the Suicide Prevention Lifeline) to call or text/email.
Most of them are symbolic of their objective or communicate important messages regarding their objective. For example, how society ridicules men if they show their emotion when it's no different for anyone else who cries, like a young girl. Feeling emotion is a human thing, it doesn't make him any less of a man. Or for the one with the woman running around the jungle while being chased after by zombies, it shows how people are reluctant to reach out for help when in distress. The one with the woman who can only speak with guitar riffs, it's supposed to symbolize how some may feel like they won't be understood if they try to open up to someone or are scared to reach out to anyone in fear of being ignored, shunned, or downplayed.
