It's the perfect Magneto imho. His mannerism, superior intellectual and persuassive discourse makes him a beliavable villain. I know Fassbender is truly good in the character as well, but sadly his suits are no contest for McKellen's long black suit and cape plus his helmet makes him look impossing. Probably the best superhero character ever designed for X-Men by 20th Century Fox (aside from Deadpool and the final X-Men suits from Apocalypse)
Logan : shows his claws Magneto : Imagine it's from metal Logan : *nah im not stupid. Even when Logan still in his bones claw Erik still figure it out to put iron inside his body and throw him out
Humans only validated Magneto's arguments to fear humans targeting mutants when they turned the cure into a weapon in "Last Stand." He is understandably portrayed as a villain for most of the original trilogy, but he was spot on about the cure being weaponized and immediately used against them.
@@lindildeev5721mas Magneto foi muito mal com sua própria raça. Ele mataria sua melhor amiga (Mística) pra seguir seus objetivos. Mataria a Vampira pra atingir seus objetivos. Mataria qualquer um.
@@lindildeev5721 That doesn't answer the question and yes he was rather evil in how he abused humans and mutants alike and tried to commit genocide at least twice in the movie series.
Too evil? He's more like an anti-hero, maybe a very dark hero, like Black Adam. The Nazis didn't help Xavier's case that humans are good people. Honestly, whilst Charles has a fair point about using peaceful methods to get humanity to use their common sense, Erik has a very equally strong case simultaneously (or at least VERY close to equal).
Sir Ian McKellen's Magneto lifted the things as if they were lightweight cotton. He made it look so easy. Michael Fassbender would have done the same thing too, but since he had so many distractions inside his mind that, he struggles to focus.
I always assumed that but I think maybe in the comics the explanation is that he also moves himself relative to magetic fields, it's the reason the guards couldn't pull him back when he was latched onto the fence. So he can literally latch onto the earth's magnetic field and levitate himself. I think they go with that explanation in the prequel movies.
Magneto is the very first character I ever saw Ian McKellen play and magneto will always be my favourite character to this day that Ian McKellen has ever played
I hope Iam Mckellen lives on forever. Im a huge Lord of the Rings fan since i was 6 and i admit i only saw xmen because of him. He got me into reading Shakespeare. Funny how a complete stranger from films change your life.
Out of all the X-Men film, this is the most impressive scene out of them all It shows as we all know how powerful Magneto is.He acted it perfectly and it still holds up when he breaks out the plastic prison
Sir Ian McKellen made me love Magneto. As powerful as the Phoenix is, I think most of the showstoppers belong to Magneto, probably due in part to the seeing a man levitating gigantic objects while floating through the air, but probably also due to McKellen’s masterful performance.
Ian McKellen made Magneto look like US Representative Ron Paul in a caped Dr. Evil cosplay. Singer & Hayter were thinking "Let's cast any random British old guy with Oscar-worthy acting chops!" Imagine a beardless version of Arnold Schwarzenegger's Zeus but wearing red armor, that's how a live-action Magneto should look. (Also, Michael Fassbender is too Irish for the role, and he looks more like Matt Murdock/Daredevil)
@@KEN-1991 it's not just about the looks. Casual audiences in the late 90s and early 2000s weren't really ready for 100% comic-accurate costumes and it is always better to cast an actor that can act extremely well but doesn't look completely like its original instead of an actor that may look more like their comic book counterpart but doesn't act well
@@Dr.Leymen I agree with less comic book accuracy, my favorite of all-time is Heath Ledger as Joker. But if the looks and depictions are nerfed, illogical and downgraded, then my point above stands correct. If someone's gonna change fiction, it has to be a brilliant idea, I don’t see any from Fox's Marvel.
Not really, when Magneto used the device in its first appearance his hands burn and become attatched to it, Mystique has to pry him off because his hands are stuck. Seems pretty impossible to escape if someone as masterful as Magneto becomes overwhlemed and literally held too it.
@@matthewschwartz6607 I don't recall a single scene where she drained powers and then didn't know how to use them. attacking Magento and/or machine with new powers is a reasonable choice in this situation
@oldcat1790 there is no indication that Magneto struggling to free himself is to protect the machine, and every indication that its because he's drained of energy, weakened, stuck too it and in pain.
It's interesting, having primarily grown up in the era of comics Magneto being an anti-hero or kind of morally grey anti-villain, which is also how Fassbender mostly portrayed him in the movies more recent in my memory, i forget how much of a true classic old comics full on villain Mckellen portrayed him as.
His powers are as strong as needed for whatever scene. He can stop bullets firing out of hundreds of guns, but he can't stop one shard of metal from piercing himself.
I hope once they reboot the X-men which they will, they stop down playing characters like storm, rogue, magneto, blob, and so on. Magneto from the comics would’ve done everything from the air including releasing mystique killing the homes. Most likely carried the metal container back to base.
O Ian foi uma escolha sensacional para este papel, é realmente impressionante como ele vestiu o personagem, uma atuação fantástica, sem sombra de dúvidas ele é o Magneto!
@@danielmarcos6845 - A lot of people had problems with that. They said that it turned Magneto into a villain. In the first movie , he was more of an anti-villain .
@@matthewschwartz6607I hated that. Stryker wasn't really a real threat. They could've easily made Magneto a bad guy in X2. I hate X3. But at least in that movie. The movie creators aren't afraid of making Magneto the big bad

Everytime i see magneto vs wolverine i always end up with the questions When will the x-men stop sending the man with a magnetic skeleton to face the master of magnetism At some point just dont right
