The seamstress tag strikes again! Woohoo! Hollie you really created something big. So glad to meet you Josh, I love watching sewing channels so I'm glad to add you to my list, subscribed! I can't wait to finish the video and check out the rest of your content. My little son is obsessed with my sewing room and older sissy just got her first sewing machine, I have no plans on letting him think he can't because he is a boy, I'm thrilled to show him your channel someday. 😀

You're so cool! 🙈 LOVE the video. You're the first man I've seen to talk about sewing with such passion. There's so many of us seamstresses arriving to RU-vid, it's great to find a seamster! 👍🏽

I just came across your video and am happy to see more and more men picking up the hobby. The title of "seamster" is catchy, btw. 😊 I participated in the Seamstress Tag and it was a lot of fun. I enjoyed watching your video and look forward to more videos.

So glad to see a male sewer. (seamster is a fun word). I am trying to get into sewing for the men in my life, and I'm so interested in the male perspectives on sewing, and male patterns.

Love your channel! So glad you did the seamstress tag since that's how I found it. You are so down to earth, I love to watch your videos. Wish I could watch the Great Britain sewing bee. I'm pretty sure we don't get it over here in America.

Just saw your video because of a comment you left on another sewing video I watched. Your tag line is so point blank it's fabulously creative and debonair, like simple lines in elegant clothing. Here in the US, it appears that people have mostly moved away from titles like seamstress, tailor and the like. I see the term "Sewist" on blogs, RU-vid videos, and classes. I guess it just covers everything, but Seamster is cool too. I hope things are going well for your wedding preparations. Congrats!

Josh, Josh, Josh...we have a problem. You're pretty much the only male I've come to find on youtube somehow. We need more content!!!! lol. I watch a lot of fashion design school people. But haven't found any males showing what they do. I plan to start making my own clothes in the near future so I really do watch a bunch of these videos. So definitely keep the content flowing! Thank you!

I enjoyed seeing your post. Thank you for sharing. If you are looking to buy fabric online, I bought fabrics from both Fabric Galore and Girl Charlie and they were great. I waited until I went to the Knitting and Sewing show to check out the quality and was really glad I did. I was particularly happy with the fabrics I bought from Fabrics Galore, especially the jersey which was such a good quality.

I live in Australia so it's probably no good me recommending fabric shops to you lol I hae brought from Sew Over It and the 2 lots I got were great quality Hope you manage to find a good shirt pattern, there is a youtube channel called the Tailor and the Dressmaker he is a tailor who used to make for all the stars in the 40's and 50's so he has great tips on tailoring you should check them out.

Tip for re-threading your serger - for the two looper threads when you are ready to change colors do not pull the old color out. cut the thread at the spool and tie the new color to the old color then then sew allowing the serger to pull the new color through until you can see it become part of the serger chain of threads. I do the two needle in a similar way, however once i attach the new thread to the old at the spool I pull that by hand until the new thread reached the needle then i cut the knot from the old thread and thread the new color. But methods save time from having to completely re-thread your serger.

Technically we are not seamstresses even though I love the word. A seamstress would do piecework or just sew seams ie factory work. We are dressmakers as we are involved in clothing construction from beginning to end and design our clothes. A tailor or tailoress is is one who sews more structured clothing and works with shirts. trousers and coats/jackets. So when Josh sews Tshirts or sportswear he is a dressmaker and when he sews shirts he is a tailor. Just a little bit of trivia and not important so long as he keeps sewing :)

Hello Josh, thank you for all of your beautiful work you have uploaded. As a man with no experience just expentional ideas. Would you recommend taking a sewing classes. I have been working on losing weight and now I don't want to spend any more money in clothes when I have you giving me what I want to do. I am super excited, I almost have my walls filled with dream vision clothes mostly jeans/pants first. I saw like 10 of your videos so far. I know I can your sewing machines but at the moment I am starting saving for good heavy duty machine first cause hand sewing is for really small details. I live in southern California and looking online just a little overwhelmed for a good machine. I know eventually I may need more than one for but I have had my eye on the digital machine less complicated when moving from a different style of sewing to the next. What really got me into sewing is my grandmother and aunts making their dresses and other items. You blow my mind with all creative process. What to look for in a machine when buying? Thank you for your U-tube channel thumbs up on all videos!

I really appreciate your help and advice! I am looking into a sewing classes hopefully by next semester. I am in rush I just feel my creative images. And on a positive note, the strongest member in family Grandma Theresa told me as a little 5 year old that I have the healing hands for massage. Now she is on my dreams working on my clothes. Amazing positively rushing through heart a can't deny. Have a great day and thank you for listening!

Thank you Sowande, yes my grandmother is one of my strongest influence of my life. It's been 15 years from her passing. I am going to look into classes and save up for the my first machine and items. I pray to my grandmother always now I moving on up creating with my hands as she told at 5yr old. I am a licensed massage therapist for 15 years now. It was never about the money that made me happy but the patient's feedback was enough payment. This helped build a client ail.

word seamster has been around for awhile since before the 12 century its just not a common word anymore. I would like to see it make its rounds again. since im a young sewer but I wouldnt call myself a tailor just yet since i know the basics. but SEAMSTER fits for this day of age for young men like me learning more. like it!!

Hi Josh. Congrats..... keep up the good work on your sewing projects..... I am sure more men sew. They just have not posted anything. Thanks for your courage. seamster is great, for men sewers? Maybe this would cover all kinds of sewing except tailoring. Because Below is the definition for tailor. noun 1. a person whose occupation is the making, mending, or altering of clothes, especially suits, coats, and other outer garments.

You should try the Silhouette Patterns shirt pattern : www.silhouettepatterns.com/html/patterns/p_6012.htm Plus Peggy (the designer of the patterns) made a couple videos about it and the difficult parts of it. Check her channel on RU-vid. Here is the extended video she made about men's shirts : www.silhouettepatterns.com/html/media/livestreamchannel/replay_02_19_2013.htm Apparently, after watching this video with his wife, a man called Doug made his own first shirt (he had never sewn before) and it went well ! Peggy's techniques are fantastic and easy, she has 2 other men patterns, unfortunately no dress pants. Ps : i am not involved in Peggy Sagers business. I discovered your channel through the Seamstress tag and I'm enjoying it. Cilou (from France)

Mikael Arguelo Nope. A tailor is someone (male or female) who makes very structured items like suits and jackets etc. Tailoring had very specific techniques that set it apart from general clothing sewing. To be a proper tailor you have to serve an apprenticeship of many years under a Master Tailor. A male 'seamstress' is called a sempster.
