Same here, since very early on, not a month into the war, and I very soon subscribed. He provides good information in a decent and humble way and has good humour too It's interesting that Starsky has 3 times more subscibers than Times Radio channel (I think he deserves it).

The fact that Chernobyl was both badly designed _and_ badly run is not a very good argument against nuclear power. Only 2 out of 450 nuclear power stations over 70 years have completely failed, and one of those was due to an event that destroyed entire towns. Coal power has killed many thousands of times more people. Given the climate crisis we still need some nuclear power - possibly quite a lot of it in some places that are not blessed with much solar or wind resource.

The nuclear disaster at Chernobyl was during the Soviet era.

@@xxwookey back in the day prior to the disaster the western nuclear industry had expressed serious concerns asbout Chernobyl . But soviet scientists also acknowledged a disaster waiting to happen due to it's inherent design.

But you are correct that nuclear power (when we're talking about installations designed and built by Western technology as opposed to Russian idiocy) is safer than reliance on coal-fired power plants. Outside of Chernobyl and the Japanese plant hit by a tsunami, fatalities in the nuclear power industry are vanishingly small, whereas men are still getting killed in dangerous coal mines and from explosions of highly flammable coal dust.

I also found that very insightful. Have you seen a video/ lecture "Evaluation of Russia by Finnish Intelligence Colonel" (Martti J. Kari)? Very interesting and thought provoking. The video is from 2018 but very timely now. It was re-released in March 2022 and has English subs.

There are two domestic US stories these Putnists mention over and over that are like fingerprints - both concerning Ukraine and both produced by a guy who never heard if Ukraine until he produced these stories directly after his private confabs with Putin: that is, Mr Trump (not getting them from intelligence, security, military, diplomatic, or media sources) Both stories feed into right wing domestic political complaints. Indeed, the complaints were constructed from them. And both stories are (not coincidentally!) hostile to Ukraine. Which at the time had been asking the US for help and was in the verge of getting it. The timing of these anti-Ukraine narratives, again, not a coincidence. Why else would people take against a country most of them never heard of before?

How do you reconcile the atrocity of Odessa house of trade unions? Even if you claim federalism supporters started it, the reality of who died & how is on Ukr radical thugs who make up a large minority & are vile (“we offed mommy” next to Ukr flag to cheers outside, as seen in Roses Have Thorns documentary, says it all). Then the footage depicting torture of POWs & civilians like mma fighter Maxim Rindovsky whose crime was having trained with a Chechen at an Akhmat club. It’s clear which side has been pushing hatred, persecution & racism all these years. Ukrainian propaganda has been falling apart from week one, constant lies, yet the low effort thinkers still cry about Russian disinformation & aggression. Sad.

You are correct, his unit is the primary reason why the Russians lost the battle for Kyiv. Instead of capturing the airport on day one and driving into Kyiv by day three, his unit was still contesting the airport against the best airborne units the Russians had on day three. Not bad for national guard, it definitely shows effective leadership and training. They punched way above their weight and really are the reason the Russians lost the battle of Kyiv.

@@allydea Well, having been part of the Soviet Union it was very much like Russia and corruption has been a real problem. But it was recognised as a problem and was slowly but surely improving and tackling it and aiming to be more like the rest of Europe. Which was a part of why Russia was so freaked out by it. Putin wasn't keen on allowing the Russian public to see another ex-Soviet republic become a successful democracy.

Well said...20 years of modernization yet the core remains the same. It reminds me of other nations like Algeria : a lot of untaped potential, lead by greedy dinosaurs with unfathomable egos. Compared to Ukraine, far from being perfect but aiming since years for something younger, more lively and changing. And it shows in their personnal and spirit.
