This is absolutely on the money. The more I play with conjugate, the more Dynamic Effort days make sense, and seem to be the game changer. Leave the ego at the door, drop the weight and get the speed up appears to be the order of the day! Great video Matt, thanks mate

@KrisMachina
@KrisMachina 3 года назад
I usually see most programs go for like 10/12 sets, the reps depends on the lift so 3 for squats, 2 for bench, and either 1 or 2 for Deadlifts. With minimal rest

I know I'm not Matt but he won't reply. Classic westside template does 8x3. A lot of speed waves are free to access on westsides website or conjugate books. Always 1-5 reps for at least 8 sets, never more reps than that
@sergiudragoi6751
@sergiudragoi6751 3 года назад
The rep scheme is relative to the intensity ( weight on the bar ) if you look at prilepins chart that will give you an idea of the overall rep ranges . Usually the reps are low as speed is very fatigue sensitive

Try not to worry about that and drop the speed work altogether. It’s insane that people still go for this when most raw guys have stated it’s BS and a waste of time.

I love you videos and I tried 30-40% of 1rm for 3 months and logged what workouts I did so when the next 3 months came i did the same workouts at 50-60% and got better results. My bench didn't move from 335lbs using 30-40% but when I used 50-60% I pressed 360lbs? Just curious to what your thoughts are?
@WenningStrength

At that strength level you may need more strength than speed. Some can be genetic too but there are many variables

Wouldn’t rate of force development have to do with the power equation being power = force * velocity? You would train force with maximum strength weight then velocity with really light weights but as fast as possible.

Wenning Strength I just think most people mean a 3 count or 5 count instead of 3 seconds or 5 seconds. It can be confusing for the viewers/trainees and I see so much of RU-vid fitness doing it.

Nice but not good for athletes on court like bball….I was used to training like that but got sore (not good for sports) and also gained weight due to hipertrophy. Nowadays I just go with calisthenics and plyos….and feel light, explosive and not sore anymore.

Maybe for bball where weight isn’t really a factor compared to height, other sports like football and wrestling you need all the power and explosiveness you can get

Very informative. I've just come from your video about not wearing a belt all the time. Since speed work is relatively light would you recommend beltless speed work at all, or would it just detract from what you're trying to accomplish?

Training styles most times are determined by what you're trying to achieve. But if you're going for muscle building and body toning, then you should be focusing more on muscle contraction (Form) over intensity. You can train very hard, for a longer duration, but without a decent amount of muscle contractions, your results are gonna be minimal. Nice content Mr Wenning.

@@WenningStrength No hate Brother. An Olympic lifters squat is so much more legs & depth rather than lower back and hips.
@Torsdagskvallsmys
@Torsdagskvallsmys 3 года назад
@@keithdesantis1976 more back? What are You smoking dude? A powerlift squat are more centered Then a olympic squad and if its more centered it means more legs! Olympic squat the bar is infront of You and not centered wich means weight pressure isnt straight down but slightly pressed forward, so The bar will fall if You not compensate for that pressure wich means You press it backwards and for You to but pressure backwards You have to use your back!! So You see You got it mixed up. Powerlifting squat has more depth and more legs with less back. Thats why olympic squaters cant squat as mutch as a powerlifter.. Simple logic. A olympic squat has more finess has alot more athlectic properties to it. Powerlifting is just simple press motion, with low techniqe. Not as good looking as a olympic squat.. Its just raw press motion
