Irene Tanya at the high school I graduated from the health clinic would come in to classes once a year and talk about pregnancy and sti/std preventatives and later options for wanted and unwanted pregnancy and they were always very open to the fact that most high schoolers are sexually active so they didn’t do the whole “don’t have sex” thing where they’d preach abstinence and just expect students to not have sex just because they were told it was bad, they knew the reality and would show us how to put on condoms (female and male), tell us about different types of birth controls and dental dams and tell us about the severity of STIs and STDs, and teach us about how to be safe at parties and what to do if we see someone trying to drug someone at a party. Plus every week a health nurse would sit in a classroom all lunch and students were allowed to go in and ask questions, talk about problems they had or tell them if they thought they had any problems that could be a sign of an sti or std and they could make an appointment for the clinic, and they even handed out free condoms and could give students birth control for a fraction of the price and stuff like that, I was lucky to go to a school that had a really good and thorough sex-ed curriculum and although there were still a few pregnancies (like 3 that I knew of within the 4 years I attended high school) they consciously made the choice to have sex and risk pregnancy even though they were taught it was a risky decision.
