Lady Decafe is as awesome as that whole decade of 2D and 3D gaming! Edit: Dangit: I tried to write "Decade" and autocorrect autoWRONGED it! Update: Hikaru as a $200 addon for the VCD pirt in the Saturn. That wouldve been much better than the Dreamcast.

I remember when Sega Europe invited my friend and I to come sample Planet Harriers at a SEGA arcade test centre they had a the time. I worked for a special Sega website during that period so I had special access and seen things that many people haven't. I was losing the plot when I played Planet Harriers (free play, of course) for I thought the game was awesome, and I told Sega that the game must get ported for their console no matter what. Such a shame that wish, like many others, never materialised. Also played Brave Firefighters and Air Trix back then before it came out in the public arcade, I was really impressed with those games too.

I've been fortunate to be able to play a few of these. Nascar, virtual on, Star Wars Pod racer, top skater; all of these games hold up quite well even today. Top skater, in particular, had a bar that surrounded the skateboard area for convenient grabbing and holding onto the same way one would grip the rear bar on a DDR machine. Good stuff, looking forward to the Chihiro content and the split from Microsoft that produced the Lindbergh

I ran a location that had Brave Firefighters. I can't tell you how many times I had to get creative to replace the hoses when they broke.

The problem with Hikaru hardware is it was very fragile, broke easily especially if being shipped and it was expensive. It’s super difficult to fix too. I have a planet harriers arcade cabinet and my Hikaru motherboard died :( was really fortunate to find a replacement but for a while I thought I’d have a dead planet harriers cabinet 😢

Given the Dreamcast was no slouch in lighting and particle effects for the time; play MDK2 on it if you don't believe me... Would love to see if the Hikaru had a demo to show off it's hardware T&L.

i was lucky enough to finally play star wars podracer in a bowling hall in denmark back in 2019. it was amazing to finally play the deluxe arcade cabinet. in 2022 i wanted to revisit that bowling hall, but sadly it burned down in 2020 😢

I’m sure this games were high end for it’s time but these games could have been ported to the Xbox hardware which could handle the graphics fidelity. It’s just my opinion 👍

Hikaru : light , radiance , or to shine Icarus : flew to close too the sun and melted his wings away (must have been pretty bright indeed) coincidence? most likely , but they do sound very similar phonetically

There is a SEGA Arcade system that is electrically the same as the Original Microsoft XBOX called the SEGA CHIHIRO.(sorry for shouting), I don't know if you could play BUNGIE's HALO Combat Evolved on it.

Makes me want to load up the yee old DEMUL emulator! Hopefully flycast will have the these running someday. Pretty much only reason still have old DEMUL in my emulation station.

Hey LD, since we're discussing Sega arcade hardware, how about a video about Sega Mega Play? I don't know much about it myself except that it ran a version of Sonic the Hedgehog that was re-coded for maximum quarter obtainment.

Couple of things to add...POD racer cost $9000 alone for the board (cause of the license added onto it). While the Hikaru is an incredibly powerful system, it is probably the most fragile arcade board ever made. Reason being Sega outsourced the placing of the BGA chips (Ball Grid Array) to a different company and they forgot to tin the balls. Think of it like this, it's basically like spitting on your hand and placing a piece of paper on your hand hoping it will hold on forever. See all those dabs of glue on the board? That was the last resort as Sega didn't want to redo it. Also the only game that really took advantage of the Hikaru was Brave Fire Fighters...all the rest of the games could have been made on a Naomi 1 / 2.

I played only 2 of these games, Episode 1 Racer and Virtual On Force. I didn't like Force much, its slower and neutered compared to OT. Episode 1 Racer was fun in the arcade, probably the best version of SW Racer.

I think people are confused by this. In 2019 we made the decision to live as digital Nomads, starting in Greece for a few months (the easiest place for us to go to since his parents have a house there) From there we went on to spend months in Romania and Hungry, but the closing of borders during the pandemic killed that life style within 6 months. Greece is lovely but food prices and fuel prices are crazy and we would later learn so are taxes, so would be tough to live there with a digital business, no matter how beautiful it is x

NAomi unit is 2x a dream cast in cpu cores dual / gpu cores 5+1 so 6 - then you can serial stack the naomi unit like SLI / crossfire but they work instead of just take your money

Hikaru is the real Dreamcast pro! But there wasnt any reason for this system to actually exist. Most of its games could have been released on regular Naomi with downgrades, but with skilled devs, could have looked great anyway. Brave Firefighters should have been released as a launch Naomi 2 game...Probabluy itr would have been even more impressive and successful there.And also, at least Star Wars and Planet Harriers should have been ported to DC... I mean, the gap between Model 2 and saturn was way wider than the gap between DC and Hikaru, and for example, AM2 made a remarcable job porting VF 2 to Saturn...So more chances to have more than great Hikaru ports of this games to DC, despite the downgrades. Sega always with their weird decisions.

Sega had way more success in the arcade than they did in the living room, but that's more to do with their weird marketing strategy, and unclear direction/quality control on the games

So is the Xbox 360 PS3 PS4 PS5 Xbox one Xbox series X their all more powerful then the Dreamcast the console your talking about was never released nobody ever heard of it and Japan is a big Sega fan then everyone they even had a Sega Store in Japan the Sega died in every region except for Japan
