The Jed demos "Hey Siri" and "Hey Sena" voice commands on a new Sena 50S bluetooth communicator installed on a Shoei GT Air helmet, paired with an iPhone 11. Hey Siri works great. Hey Sena, not so much! Sena 50S: amzn.to/3hHDdGl
Not surprised. In contrast, I am now using my Sena communicator as a bluetooth mic paired to my GoPro Hero 12. The GoPro has voice commands that all work perfectly, through the Sena mic!
Another TIP for everyone just in case this happens to you like it did to me. The WIFI charge adaptor - IF you have trouble connecting to your WIFI, like it will not find your SSID. Your Wifi SSID ID can only have letters and number, no spaces or slashes. My WIFI is like this "AAA-BBB" , and it would not find it, I went to all letters and no spaces, good to go, also as a review I plugged in a v1.0.3 and it did the auto update to v1.0.4 without any troubles, so that thing works as advertised for me.
I've had my 50S for just over two weeks. I'm coming from the 20S and I must say, I'm disappointed. I can find no real improvement over the 20S. I utilized the buyback update that expired in June. I should have waited longer as the purchase price is even lower at the normal retail outlets than what I paid on the Sena site. The voice command recognition was better with the 20S. I cannot get voice command to function with the 50S. Phone pairing is slower with the 50S. The volume does not sound any louder. I can say that using the equalizer in the Balance and Bass Boost settings actually reduced volume levels. And one thing that still does not function (unless it was never intended to work this way) is that if I use the Sena provided radio feature I will not get any navigation voice from my phone. It does function ok if I use the phone radio or music player. I just preferred to use the helmet radio over the phone. Perhaps it was never an intended feature. Anyway, I wish I had stayed with my 20S than spending $339 for the 50S.
Ken, thanks for sharing your experience. I rarely use the FM radio feature so cannot comment as to how it interacts with audio from your phone. In contrast to your experience, though, I do find the 50S speakers noticeably louder/better than those of my 30K. And I’m starting to have a little better luck with voice commands, but not great. Anyway, I appreciate your hanging out and commenting.
My J&M 6 or so year old wired headset for my goldwing sounds much better. I just bought this for use with my sport bike, and can't compare it to earlier versions, but it's not all that great to me. What I have found is when I call out "Hey SENA" Siri responds, so as my phone was dictating what I was saying, it clearly knows the difference as it wrote SIRI and CENA as I spoke, but SENA will not take the command, and why SIRI responds when I say SENA is beyond me. No my goldwing does not have voice commands for anything so can't compare. BTW I am using firmware v 1.0.4 in my 50s. As for just normal use while riding, it's OK , but thanks to you here for confirming my thoughts on this device. Ride safe!
Tony Fall2Fast thanks for watching and replying. My experience with Hey SENA has not improved. I’ve given up using the voice command. Fortunately I don’t need it, but it is disappointing.
Thanks for the video. I will try this on my next ride 🤞🏼. I just had one question, it seems that I cannot activate Siri unless I press on the phone button every time I need to say hi Siri however I saw you doing it without touching the unit, is there a special setting for this feature?
II can get it to work when I practice it off the bike, but I still have difficulty getting it to work properly while riding. I wish I had a suggestion for you but at present I don’t. I think pressing the button is best.
What about asking Siri to play a specific playlist on media such as Pandora or Spotify, or does it just default to Apple Music? My 30K seems to be worthless in this regard. I’m hoping that with the introduction of the 50S that Sena would have upped its game to Cardo Packtalk Bold level of (mostly) hands free functionality.
Bill, you should be able to use the "Hello Sena" feature regardless of phone, Bill. Your results may vary, of course! I have pretty much given up on voice commands on the bike.
I have the latest Sena 50s Harman Kardon my first sena ever & having same issue …🤷♂️ So Jed if you found anything else out please post to or let me know 🙏🏼
@@TheJedRides ok I agree as long as I can communicate with my team and passenger the commands ain’t important the Hey Sena check battery and volume up&down is suffice for me
Got one sena 50s on one helmet and Cardo bold on another, and must say the cardo voice commands never miss a beat. Sena on the other hand very disappointing,
My Sena 50R is not working with "Hey Siri" anyone know how to fix this? It will recognize the "Hey Siri" but then it will immediately turn off. iPhone 7. (December, 2021). My "Hey Sena" works fine but not "Hey Siri"
@@TheJedRides No idea what I just did but I kept messing with all kinds of settings in the Sena 50 app and now it works. "Hey Siri" and "Hey Sena" both working flawlessly. Thanks alot!
