Fun fact! My Chosen One is the only one who knows what’s going on, my Innocent Child turns into the villain, my Cool One is actually the least powered and least flamboyant of the group, my Punching Bag is successfully learning to cope (and the child of the group so everyone now protects them) but my Philosopher is literally exactly just Mom Friend. She heals, she tanks, and she makes breakfast and helps everyone with their problems. Everything may have spins put on it, but Mom Friend is Mom Friend.
@@Squirreliosis Chosen One: Corin Ironworker/Kasa (pet names include blind idiot and k-couskai), Innocent Child: Goes by both Arstos and Cieal, also called the Unnamed for a couple centuries after certain events. Cool One: Armés Kasa (last name isn't really necessary just wanted to show that she and Corin are siblings), Punching Bag: Giovanni Inigo Cavallero (except everyone calls him Gigi to tease him) and Philosopher is named Miriam but has been called Miri and just, mom. Mom friend poweeeer Edit: also for everyone asking for book, I am literally creating two entire languages, eight different cultures, three seperate religions (one of which has eight smaller religions packed into it) and about five thousand years of unique history. This ain't something that's gonna be a quick little literary jaunt.
For those who are into character creation. If you want the character likable make sure he/she is imperfect, because the audience wants a character that people can relate to..
my ocs fall into two categories; -sweet, innocent older sibling with a strong maternal instinct -chaotic cynical emo with a tragic backstory and misplaced anger towards their older brother who's shadow they've spent their whole lives within
@@yuplekei And so is mine... A 14-year-old who is abused, horrifically wounded by literally getting her tire cut off and window cracked, and is wanted by the government so they can take her powers and kill her in the process!
most of mine fall into the "Cool character" "murderer" and "punching bag" archetypes, with a bunch of "philosophers" are well edit : I don't know why this got so many likes but thanks, everyone
meanwhile, demon tifeling from 283-306 a murder responsible for almost half million deaths strategy of trapping large towns in magic fog and then setting it on fire and rampaging. he accidently kills his lover named Alex and then kills himself by beating his head with a rock- he rembvers nothing from his life except Alex and uncontrollably gets jealous and a lot more unpredictable as one of his many punishments. eventually he meets Alex on earth and finds out about his past through flashbacks caused by the main protagonist who helps him grow a lot. Alex is a demon and is more beast like and will stop at nothing to kill gack (the demon boi). they end up "releaseingthe soul" of ale so he can at least go to limbo rather than the 2nd ring of hell. gack gets closure and ends up helping the current state of the Kingdome that he was summoned in by the main protagonist and they about this child they met (who is actually 14). they overthrows the government (who was going to use the poor as slaves to get more money) and basically becomes the king along side the protagonist and that becomes his really weird way of redemption. also, he returns to how he looked when he was alive (basically horns and ears shorten some) except when he returns to hell for whatever reason . reason
I made a dude with the goal of making them so unbelievably edgy that it was physically impossible to take them seriously, even the people who 100% the Shadow the hedgehog game would have a hard time keeping a straight face. Think, "I was born without parents and I had to live in the woods after my home burned down." Level of edge, even the other characters in the story just thought they were making it up. "My mom went out with 40 other guys!" "Weren't you born without parents or something?" "..."
The “I was born without parents and I had to live in the woods after my home burned down.” Almost describes Dr. Doofenshmirtz as his parents were not at his own birth and he was raised by animals.
I love how wholesome this video is. A lot of people like to say ocs are "cringe" and i appreciate that even if you used the word, it was in an accepting way that showed that even if a character is cringe- if they make their creator happy that's all that really matters. Also appreicate you using the archetype "cool character" as opposed to Mary Sue.This video was very loving and accepting of all ocs- both well written ones and the ones that MAYBE are just a bit cringe. I loved your positive energy and your sweet, friendly voice. This video really brightened my day.
Bru how my character none of these he was just a straight-up omnipotent omniscient happy dude that liked to fight and built up his omnipotent’s through lots of fighting. Yeah thats about it. Now my cousin well he had every single one here except self inserted and child which ended up with my character killing his mom cause they were brothers but not after he tried to kill my oc and had a chosen one like character save him then he my oc also became op and they made up then the chosen one became evil and we clapped him. There is like a whole lore behind this and surprising made sense but I dont think what i am able to remember will fit here
My OC Ashia be suffering beyond what any 14-year-old deserves... And then there's 13-year-old Leris whos parents literally tried to kill him, and then Surviver who gets shot at a lot for what her grandfather did, and then another character named Ashen who was born mute and only lived to 15 due to drowning because he was stuck in a flashback. And then two 15-yr-old male OCs named Parker who was murdered in the hospital, one by his COACH burning him alive and the other his enemy... My brother gets scared whenever I name a character Parker now. Needless to say, my stories are really dark.
My oc Brownie is an innocent child who took up his parents' bakery after they got too old and are still figuring things out. His Awesome Amazing Power: financial stability.
OCs of mine that fit these descriptions: OC 1. Milly, a Spooky Month OC A mix of the punching bag and the innocent child, a story that doesn't have a happy ending mainly for reasons beyond my control. She was created during my first month on SMRP(A Roblox RP game), created from the simple idea of me giving a backstory to the secret skeleton child morph you could become in the lobby. I shall explain that backstory now. She was once just a regular child. Her mother was in the cult, the rather strict and abusive parent, who killed the husband when Milly was only 2. Milly had no idea because she wasn't there to see it. Her only friend was a Happy Fella possessed by another cultist by the name of Ted, though he was the less-dedicated type when it comes to the cult. He had a huge soft spot for Milly, and absolutely freaked out when it came time to sacrifice her. But something went wrong after the sacrifice, and Milly's soul somehow ended up back in her own skeleton. She didn't remember too much about her life, but then Pump found her and they became pretty good friends! Even if she was confused why the stars loved him and hated her. But then... came the grand update. You know, the one that removed the skeleton kid morph for whatever reason? Because of that, I had to write it in that she was found again by someone who wasn't there at her original sacrifice, aka the clown guy(who I headcanon to be named Todd), and resacrificed by him. Ted meanwhile wasn't doing so well without Milly. So the day they decided to kill him for trying to leave them after they killed Milly, he just accepted it because he knew Milly was already dead. But it turns out, my friend who had acted Pump also has an OC that's an amalgamation of all the kids that have been sacrificed to Eyes. But when a cultist dies, they wind up as part of Eyes himself. So even in death, Milly and Ted can't be together. Poor Milly. I also have a more comedic punching bag that I allow my friends to just throw stuff at. His name is Devin, also a SM OC. A newbie to the cult who recently got fired and was just looking to pay rent and then got lured into the cult by his friend. Life is not good in the cult at all, especially considering most of them seem to hate him due to him being an athiest. Devin is the character that I always project onto the most, thinking, "If I was in this guy's situation, what would I do?" So I guess you could say he has some self-insert energy, even though he isn't really a representation of me. Update on Milly: The morph is back, and so is she! Though, she's suffered a lot of trauma from where she was. She doesn't even look human anymore, and often spends time crying to herself. Her sight is also warped to the point where the Pump she was friends with just looks like Eyes to her now. OC 2. While the second half of the "philosopher" explanation doesn't exactly apply to any of my OCs, the first half reminded me a lot of another Spooky Month OC I have by the name of Hickory. Hickory's idea first spawned from one of my first days on SMRP, where I accidentally started a Happy Fella cult and then got one of the devs to join it as a glowing yellow version. I then had an idea about a creepy cultist Happy Fella pretending to be some doll god and luring a bunch of insane Happy Fellas to Eyes, and that idea of a character slowly became a full-fleged OC known as Hickory! On the surface, he's basically the same as Ted; A Happy Fella in the cult. But it becomes very obvious how different they are when they start talking. While Ted is a rather sane, nervous individual, Hickory speaks with a quiet, emotionless version of a regular Happy Fella voice. He's been in the cult since the start, luring children to be sacrificed with his doll self. All this time gaining the trust of kids has basically led him to become an ideal father figure if need be, especially helpful since Eyes has kids in our (me and my friends') AU. One of said kids kinda ran away, but the other spends basically all his time with Hickory. Probably because Hickory takes such good care of him! Hickory's the only SMRP character I use with 100% grammar 100% of the time. And also he's currently owned by Robert's younger sister, so who knows how long she'll last- OC 3. A majority of the OCs I've made are SM OCs, and this guy is no exception. This "cool character" isn't actually edgy or emo like most of his type, if anything he's bery pink and hyper! He was made only like 3 days ago, created from an idea I got from a dev getting a Happy Fella to glow pink. Meet Fellagram! A hologram Happy Fella created with advanced interactive technology for a marketing scheme, but then it flopped and was a huge financial loss so they just stuffed the technology away and never touched it for many years. But due to the constant flow of energy they programmed it with, the energy kept building up due to it not being used to let all that energy out. So much of it built up that, skip to the present day, the next time someone even touched it, the equipment outright EXPLODED, and everything in the studio exploded along with it! But in the aftermath of the explosion, the lil Fellagram returned, free from the systems in a body made of only pink electricity! A very hyper fella, who can go into devices but breaks them once inside them for too long. His presence alone can cause electricity to go haywire! But of course, being made of electricity, he can't really fully interact with the physical world. Another thing about him is that his small form couldn't even contain most of the stored energy. So where did it go? Into a TV that somehow survived the explosion. Hence the existence of the pink TV world that came from the grand update! OC 4. Another SM OC. Her name is Dolly, and she's a mute lil girl kiddo in an ice cream-themed clown costume! Todd's illegally adopted daughter that he used to take care of during his time in another cult. Yea, the lore for him in our RPs is that he used to be in another cult, and used to be more sane during his time in said cult! But one day, Dolly ran away and kinda didn't return, cementing herself as missing. Todd immediately got worried and assumed Eyes' cult kidnapped her because they DO do that, so he goes over to stalk them and try to get her back. That's where he gets found out by Bob, Bob shows Todd to everyone, and well... the trauma Todd ended up suffering as a punishment from Eyes was so utterly terrible that it just broke him mentally. Bringing light to the insane clown he's seen as today! But as for Dolly... She wasn't even kidnapped. So the next time she and Todd randomly ran into each other... Cue Sloppy Jane's cover of "They're Coming To Take Me Away". :) She doesn't wanna be around him. In her eyes, that isn't her papa anymore. OC 5. Yet _another_ SM OC. This one being a full mix of the innocent child and the self-insert! If SM actually happened, I would've been 6 at the time that it did. Thus, this character is 6! Her name is Kimya, but she likes to go by Dina. She wears a cheap green dinosaur onesie everywhere she goes, and it's so big that not only did she have to cut out it's eyes to be able to see, but also she had to roll the sleeves and leg parts up a ton! You can just barely see her hands! Dina is a lot like my past self; Divorced parents, loves dinosaurs, easily scared, loves candy, creative and autistic! The town loves Skid and Pump, so she decided to be more like them because life in town is pretty rough for a background character. Especially considering what happened in episode 2. She was just on a casual stroll during episode 2, and decided to go get some candy! But then she saw Eyes from a distance before she could get there, and that alone scarred her for life. She's tried to tell people about him, but people think it's just the wild imagination of an autistic kid. She's drawn him many times, because, in her words, "he wants me to he wants me to he wants me to..." OC 6. I don't really have a "chosen one"-type OC, so there's only one left; The murderer! A lot of the characters I act are murderers, but an OC murderer I have is one I think about a lot. Her name is Mia! A FNAF OC made for an old AU. I don't think I've ever seen a human FNAF OC that's also a murderer, so I did it! Mia has a "punching bag" past. From her dad bailing, to her mom dying of cancer, to her older sister always being busy, to her being led into a false sense of security by Scraptrap only for him to burn alive in FNAF 6, to a difficulty making friends, to an abusive boyfriend and a dead-end job that overworks her(ehem Fazbear Entertainment), the world basically drives her to where it only really gets "better" when she meets Glitchtrap while testing the VR game, who convinces her to start killing people until she reaches a point of no return and decides to make an entire cult for him. One that she tricked Vanny into, fun fact!
All of my OC doesn't value life at all. Because, everyone that dies. Gets Isekai'd and may return to their Original World and brought themselves some gift. *Like a world ending level Reality Destructing Bomb or Super Powers*
"i love listening about OCs" *me, vibrating at the speed of light, ready to unleash a flood of words no smaller than the flood that only Noah and his boat survived:* REAL SHIT?????
@@Chibitasm Do you, mayhaps, wanna hear about some of my characters 🥺👉👈? (also my phone is running on Android 6 so I can only pray that the emoji I used is the one I think it is lol)
Well that's practically the point, isn't it? I forgot the name of it but I saw a magical girl anime where everything was just TERRIBLE for the main character.
I used to have this group of OCs called BlackEye. The leaders were a couple. One literally found the other strapped to an actual punching bag. The others were a depressed zombie, an over-excited 12 year old and an emo intellect
"If you were into sonic between the ages of 9 and... i'm gonna say 24. You had a sonic OC. Its up there with the rest of our Deviantart past." THE FUCKING ACCURACY
Luckily Devianart has removed cringe art and has become a better website and now the Sonic OCs I see on there are very well done and creative and no longer cringe like the old Sonic OCs in the past
And then there’s me who has “OC who was kind of a self insert but then got shoved through a metaphorical blender and possibly a literal blender too and sort of became all of the stereotypes at once and then I also put them at the end of a convoluted timeline that I came up with as a joke while discussing dumb alternative history mods for strategy games with my friend whilst eating damp pizza in the school cafeteria”
*These are from all different times and stories* My punching bag: A ghost that keeps dying over and over. My philosopher: a robot that favors gardening over anything else My “cool character” : a dove that cant transform back to human but to other animals My innocent child: A teddy bear that really had a broken heart and will do anything to find it’s owner My chosen one: A human which can control all animals without wanting to. My murderer: The colour magenta as a person who has built up anger at the other colors for outshaming them My self insert : myself as an anime character
5:18 'sometimes this character is just flat out invincible' One of my ocs, unsurprisingly one of my favorites, named 031, is basically the only constant in the roleplays i use him with. explaining his character is hard, cus his entire character is that his personality is ironically never constant. one second hes being scary and about to eat you, and the next hes speaking in poem or something. He used to be a really cool antagonist, but he kept dying and finding different ways to somehow come back (first time he basically replanted himself [cus hes a funky mushroom dude but unique in a lot of cool ways i dont have tie to explain], second time he got rebuild out of his remains, third time some racist group accidentally revived him, fourth time he had accidentally became the floor of a whole state by accident and was revived by a space wolf thing, ect.) so hes like william afton in how he continues to come back, but he doesnt actually physically change in the slightest. anyway the reason he stopped being a villain and instead had a hero arc was because (Do not ask, its a VERY long story,) he accidentally had a child. No, he wasnt pregnent.
This reminds me of a character I made which basically just is chaotic and random, good things might happen to it, (like it turning into a hive-mind-bread-pandemic-blob (Don't ask)). Or it might grow spider heads that breathe fire and then have the rest of the body turn into a dehydrated potato. However it's usually a net positive as it has regeneration and the only real way it can die is if it's chaotic randomness handicaps and kills it.
Update on the roleplays: hes back to his villian arc after the world broke like a dinner plate, and he broke a floating continent out of rage because a raccoon killed his son.
I had an OC that was a full on petty villain. They were in a rp server so I constantly had to clarify her backstory was straight up "she was normal" because I often hinted at it and people got confused. But honestly, probably one of my most fun OC for short rps because of this, along with her personality being just on the edge of evil or simple jerk.
Me Punching bag: Hmm most of my OCs are punching bags Philopher: Screw it Cool one: Umm dunno Innocent child: What do you think the punching bags are? Chosen one: Well...... I have some in a group Murderer: One is literally the protagonist... Self-insert: OK OK OK you caught me
i remember my first oc. it was legit just a shadowy, mildly chibi human shaped blob. the only defining feature was two circles i left on where the head should be, which were eyes. i may have sucked at drawing, but i've always been able to draw insanely unsettling eyes, so just imagine a shadowy human shaped blob, drawn with bad pencil scribbling, and overly realistic eyes.
I have an innocent child character who hangs out with incompetent murderers The little boi also views a very competent and ruthless murderer as his big brother
Don’t you just love it when you experiment so much with your villain that they go from the murderer character to the “cool guy,” and then to the philosopher, to the tragic backstory character, and then just end up as this sad but wholesome wreck that literally can’t do anything bad to the other characters because they’re just that messed up? Just me? Welp.
It’s so nice to see a positive video about OCs! It’s so refreshing and shows the true nature of making characters! It’s honestly so disheartening always hearing about how “making ocs is bad” “making ocs is cringey!” So what if we have ocs, or make them? We can always get better, but bashing people because they make them is awful! This video was so sweet, and I’m happy the algorithm randomly led me here!
...Where the heck do you go where anyone says OCs are bad? I'm 33yrs old and have made my rounds through the anime fandom, the Sonic fandom, and MLP fandom, and other more modern ones. And no-where have I seen anyone say OCs are bad. Every single fandom has OCs you'll bump into and that's part of it. It's never been discouraged or shamed. Maybe people aren't saying OCs are bad to you. Maybe they just mean your OCs specifically are bad. That makes more sense! But joking aside it sounds like you hang out with crappy people.
@@TailsClock Well I’ve never met one of these people irl or online, but I’m pretty sure the type of people who say OC making is cringe are the people who see a few cringe OC’s from fandoms they’re in and think “Hm yes, all OC’S must be cringe since these are.” (Speaking of jokes it took me like 15 seconds to realize your user was TailsClock and not TailsCock💀)
@@TailsClock Within creative minds, yeah. Very often criticism of OCs is directed if your OCs look bad. Honestly, spending years to build a character that suited me helps you realize that working towards a outstanding OC is amazing. Even the least artistically-driven individuals are going to consider that cool.
"Everyone has a story inside them. Everyone has several stories inside them." Me: . . . Me: **looks at my library of my rarely finished stories** That sounds about right.
My main oc actually started as a side character from a story I was writing, but then, I realized that he actually had much more potential than anyone else in my story. In the original story, the character I was using was just too op, and it felt redundant writing stories around them, but when I ultimately went through to rewrite the whole thing with the side character, since the power I gave him was much more fitting of a main character. For 6 years now, I've been writing stories around that character, and even once, I wrote a story where he met his original version, but it ended up as one person who hurts himself with magic trying to console a crybaby of a character... yeah... I'm glad I decided to change him from that... anyways, since it was a whole world, I have at least one oc that fits one or more of these roles. Oof. I wrote too much... I get too excited when I can talk about my ocs...
For me, whenever I make a self insert oc. I eventually draw them so much that they gain so much of their own personality that it's hard to tell they were supposed be me (other than the design). Honestly if I drew all my oc's in a row you would notice a large amount of them are drawn almost exactly how I draw myself. It's a bit of a problem I'm getting over right now XD
I thought I was the only one! My first ever oc was supposed to be me, but in minecraft, and it was a drowned. And evetually I gave her a backstory, a personality, and 5 other friends that were also supposed to be me but ending up into another charcater.
Let me be real, the only time I actually would ever use a "Chosen One" prophecy on my characters is if it were used for an evil plot device. The "Chosen One" idea of having your life predetermined for you sounds like a curse. I prefer the idea of being able to create your own story rather than depend on fate.
Yeah I have a story where all the main characters were "chosen" by some sort of crystals when they're born and they're destined to train their entire life waiting for the evil bad guy to do it's thing and defeat him like it has been each like 1000 years but the one we follow most of her story is some random villager girl who stumble upon the crystal that has been lost and she is being brought into the entire concept she only heard vaguely as a kid with bedtime stories. And we see her getting all that pressure and judgement of people (Since the crystal didn't really choose her technically, she just found it and it reacted since she was the first to touch it since the last owner) and the effect it had on the other characters who grew up with that weight on their shoulder their entire childhood and teenagehood and in the end the girl becomes the second source for the villain because it was too much for her and she wasn't trained since birth for any of this (But the others save her at the end, but she still becomes evil). So yeah it's not really "she deals with it and everyone is fine with any of this" type of story
OmGoodness. my main OC has literally been 1-6 at different points in her life, and has a backstory that is generic enough that she can be #7 in sooooooo many fandoms. I specifically built her to be able to adapt her to all of my favorite fandoms but also is part of her own world/story. This was very helpful in understanding her better and gave me some ideas for her world too. Thx for making this vid Chibitasm.
Me trying to justify why im making my high schoolers character went to trough much trauma that ends with one of them losing an eye and her self confidence while also locking her in self imposed exile over how she is the problem and then making the other character lose limb and trust over others while blaming herself for her friend dissapearance: *WELL TECHNICALLY ONE OF THEM IS A CONCEPT THAT EXIST MILLENIA BEFORE BIG BANG AND THE OTHER IS HIGHLY SKILLED HUNTER SO THEY ARE ATLEAST MUCH MORE MATURE THAN AVERAGE HIGH SCHOOLERS-*
“The philosopher character is the mom friend and is very smart” My philosopher character is an alcoholic, conspiracy theorist detective who at one point nearly beats up a teenager who has amnesia.
Mine is a depressed, anxious, sleep-deprived, everything else in the book, 12 year old who begged for her sister to mercy kill her into to defeat another one of their sisters, has one of the most dangerous powers in the universe, thinks too much about life, is used for literally everything, *etc.*
My philosopher stared a god in the face, insulted them and is the only one who stays calm in the entire situation of being thrown into magic. No but legit their just so tired having to deal with my murderer OC that nothing surprises them anymore
I felt so proud and original to have countless ocs and none of them fit these descriptions... *until the last one where I immediately had horrible flashbacks to my old cringey self-insert stories...*
everyone: has many ocs with many different personalities, looks and stories me: has 2 ocs with animal ears that just exist for being cute and work at restaurant @w@
Haha same. My first and only three OC’s I’ve ever made were just three normal friends with normal backstories that went to high school. I’ve been taking art seriously for a little over 5 years and I only really do fan art. I’ve never felt a want or need to make OC’s, does anyone else relate?
Haha... the character for myself is myself, but with a glow-up, terrible sense of fashion, and was and still is from an alternate timeline in Undertale.
Same for me! at first I just like to draw some character set in a school setting doing some goofy stuff, but I always had this idea where they live in this bizzare world, each of them having their own stories and without realizing are connected with each other. I know it's not original, but i'm having fun drawing them! ^^
That's still pretty cool imo ! Sometimes creating simple OCs who just. exist and vibe. and who don't got a special backstory or whatever is fun to do :3c
You have human characters with trauma? I mean, my monsters have a bit, but not like "I was beaten because my knees existed, so I cut them out and now i can do the devious walk, but people still bully me because i got a hairline like the little Caesars batman pizza"
[Everyone was called out] I think all of these apply to me on some level but I definitely have a lot of punching bags, innocent childs, and murderers. I think one of my favorite OC types is a punching bag/murderer hybrid! Also, punching bag philosophers. The character that deals with a lot but still pulls it together and helps other people with their issues? Love. I think another one I would've included is The Babe, aka the one who mainly exists because they're just so hot and/or cute. They probably become more complex later, but initially all your rambling about this OC just loops back to "they're adorable and I love them." Maybe you wanna smooch them, maybe you want another character to smooch them, or maybe you just wanna cuddle them for comfort. In any case you're very gay and very valid.
Oh my gosh the Babe is perfect I can't believe I didn't include them >v< I can legit think of 3 I have off the top of my head... I may need to make a part 2 at some point!
Sounds like "The Babe" is essentially the OC equivalent of fanservice, if I'm not mistaken... Interesting... Mind you, the term "fanservice" can be used in more than one context. In fact, bearing THIS in mind, I might even have one or two that would fall under this category XD
i have an oc that was my first and main oc, then i started to add more and more characters and gave other characters upgrades and new abilities. he pretty much became a side character. but i added so many characters that i started to forget about them and remember them after a certain character's plotline, but what stood out to me is how i never forgot my first oc, he was always there in the background, but i never forgot him. And now i decided to put an end to my own little series in my head, it only made sense to have my first character, the character i never forgot, the central point around the finale. so pretty much he becomes the chosen one at the end making a sacrifice where he has to never see his friends again while holding everything inside of him as he becomes everything. so yeah he was pretty much the cool one, he had murderous tendancies, and at the end he became the chosen one, but i dont have any other character who fits the other ones you listed.
I feel like there needs to be a #8, the Mary Sue that you liked so much that even though you realized how cringe they were you ended up spending time to work on them more thoroughly until they became a more well rounded being with a realistic personality and story. I mean, thats the one I spent the most time on, lol.
People who hate OP Broken OCs cannot do nothing about it anyway. Because the purpose of OCs are to be strongest aka (Broken, OP, Strong, God Powers) that's why OCs are created, , to be strongest so yeah nothing can do about it since it's the rule of OCs. My OC was made for the sake of being strong.
I feel called out- I still have some of the first oc's I ever made and this is exactly what happened, they were originally all just huge Mary Sues and only had 1 character trait, but I've spent a lot of time making them more detailed, realistic, and distinct from each other! I still have some problems with accidentally making part of their character a huge stereotype or too unrealistic sometimes, but I've already improved a lot from the original character designs, so I hope I can improve even more.
My innocent child is a prostitute... so yeah...My chosen character and cool character merged. Ironically I did think of using my philosopher like character instead but decided my cool character would work better. Most of my characters are murderers or atleast have killed. My self insert may be three gods...
Mine are kinda animal hybrids- they got turned into them by testing, then they died, from testing or the lab burning down. Glad I'm not alone doing this and I hope you keep sharing more about your characters here!
Man watching this made me realize about my own ocs. I’ve gone through HUNDREDS of ocs in the span of a couple of years. Scrapping some because I just lost interest, or others out of memory loss. Yet somehow I always manage to carry over traits from previous ocs to new ocs and nowadays my current characters are all decently fleshed out. One supposed to have a somewhat tragic story while appearing not very edgy. One who’s appearances in my stories was from the END of his story arc (like a fatherly figure). Ocs are fun to mess around with
My OCs don't exist in any physical medium, but the stories I play in my daydreams definitely hit on all of them. Huh. I never realized how common it was. Most of mine are the kind of creatures that would normally give people nightmares, big toothy monsters can be nice and want friends too!
Sorry but i remembered the meme of the guy who posted a goofy version of the hamburger helper mascot saying something like "just a glimpse into my dark reality" 💀 but i do that too. But i do it when i cant sleep and its mostly about headcannons and how i think certain characters would interact with eachother. Basically fanfic but its where it should stay: in our heads...
Reminds me of that one head can and I made with my OC's where they were put into a different realm with monsters and stuff and they thought they were going to die only to find out that the monsters could care less about them. One of my OC's even attacked a monster just for the monster to give him a side eye and then keep drinking from the watering hole.
you forgot that one furry oc you hide from literally everyone and you pretend you hate them but you secretly love them / you have a little soft spot for them
I remember when I was very young and had like *literally countless* numbers of a bunch of cat ocs inspired by the pete the cat books, lol. Those adventures they all had that I imagined, that's fun to remember.
I've got a few spins on the murderer type because it's such a fun one to play with. guy who had a great life and randomly decided it's time for mass murder just because he can. skip to the present and he terrorizes the multiverse with his insanely advanced tech and alien militia. all because one day he thought maybe it's time to try snapping a coworker's neck. he pretends to hide his backstory, which he pretends is a tragedy, when really all the bad things happening are all caused by him in the first place and he enjoyed watching the chaos unfold. it's all just a sandbox to be cruel with in whatever ways he finds the most entertaining because he was just born a sick and twisted cycle path. like the concept of an ancient evil that simply is that way, but instead of starting as an abstract concept he was just some forklift operator
Hello, I like to see people use 'lesbian' and 'bisexual' and other sexualities as personality traits for characters and I don't think I really get it, Is it okay if you explain? (hope this question isn't offensive)
@@fartfacefromspace5678I thinks it’s less so a personality trait and more of a part of the character’s identity. The actual character trait comes before. In this context; Hyperactive and tired are more so the personality traits and they just enjoy writing lesbians or bisexuals (which isn’t exclusively romance).
I can give you hyperactive "Totally a boy, stop asking, it'll only make me more confused": Leo, grandchild of a retired adventurere, who just thinks their grandpa is THE COOLEST I can give you tired bisexual, mind of? more like grumpy: Bunny Beck, but don't you dare call him Bunny, only his family can do that, he was an architect but then he kind of accidentally killed a guy and went out to seek redemption by saving other people, he's quite grumpy as well I can give you modified beyond what should be humanly possible and crafted into a weapon: Mania, which isn't because of any Magic, but close enough
I definitely have some of these characters but not others due to the fact that my characters live in the same universe. None of them are the main characters and just kinda hang out and have their own lives
Same! I think i fall in love with the ideas of interconnected slice of life story and accidentally create a universe taht accomodate all of my characters no matter how absurd their concept is while also maintaning the "they all have their own lives and is the main characters in their own right"
Most of my ocs, with the exception of a few, fall into the categories of "the punching bag," "the cool character," and "the chosen one". I have a couple ocs who are the philosophers, and, out of every single fandom I have made ocs for, I only have two child ocs. Only one of which is innocent, and she's a demon in Demon Slayer! I also have a self insert oc for *every* fandom I like.
@Poppingballoons69Many characters I've seen that go under that are usually joke characters where they may seem like some harmless little blob, but are actually a major threat to the world itself. (I also have an oc that is under the trope.)
@@cutestcreeper569 Overly sarcastic productions calls that trope the "Crouching moron, hidden badass." E.G someone like Goku or Naruto, Who's holy crap levels of Strong but uses it for good, usually hiding it behind being a doofus.
My characters backstory is literally the old god of time got lazy and gave his powers to my character Now he's an information powerhouse that doubles as a therapist
-Plot twist, my punching bag's backstory is literally "ALTERNATE UNIVERSE WHERE I DIED AT 16 AND BECAME A DEMON". So yeah, pretty much a coping mechanism. -Help. I think I just turned my philosopher into a mad scientist. -I don't know about the cool one. Maybe Marshmallow? She wasn't made to be a story character, she is just literally everyone I could think of mashed together into a cute rainbow abomination. -Innocent child? I think I have one or two of those, but si definitely know which ones I'm most bond of. -OMG YES!! The prophecy kid! That one is kind of cringey to explain, but her "rejecting destiny" story is one of my current favorites to plan. -Honestly I only have one pure murderer OC. She is basically a Bloody Painter copycat because I was into creepypasta back then and he was my favorite. Same reason for why the rainbow abomination has a murderer side. I also have a Yandere Sim copycat kind of, but that whole story is still taking it's first steps. -SELF INSERTS ARE EVERYWHERE. I was never into sonic, but I get what you mean 😂
My sister did something similar except I'm also dead. And she's a fallen angel killing people to stop her from being sent to hell. But there's the alternate her with a ferret with earthbending powers.
The main OC I work with is both a philosopher and the cool character. If he's not winning fights in unnecessarily badass manners he's giving you existential terror via info dumps.
My first OC fell into the third category and had some overlap with the first, but then I decided, "what if I flesh this guy out?" And now he has a whole world and and character development. He's still OP asf tho
I had a character when I was 7 years old who was literally just Kirby with a sword and the personality of a fully-grown man. In his first and only outing he fought an evil Kirby who was trying to gas a city. Just some interesting tidbits
if you redesigned him if you went with the fact that kirby themself is a toddler thats actually a god of destruction itd be funny if u made them pretty destructive or smt
@@donutholebandit6212 woh nice!! but... what if you stuck with the sword kirby version? would that be the route you took if you knew about kirby canonically being a god of destruction, but a toddler?
@clvde oooh, that's really interesting actually... yeah, what happens to that sort of power when it's wielder grows up? I imagine he'd become a star warrior, just because of the whole visual connection between him and meta knight, but does that same connection also imply that meta knight has world-ending capabilities? Galactic knight certainly seems to! Who knows? Sorry for the tangent lol, I'll have to keep that idea in mind!
You know us artists of any kind, writers, poets, painters. We all cope through different was but the main way is creating characters to simulate what we are going through, weather it is actually happening or just a state of mind. I’ve noticed that the artist community’ is so large and everyone is so diverse in how they show their compassion for art and it just makes me feel glad to be apart of this community, through the good and the bad parts. I’ve always been quiet and sometimes I tend to isolate myself from others even though I want to be with my friends (or just want friends), I am quite self conscious but in the end of the day I always sit down and relax with my life and the emotions I felt throughout the whole way through all portrayed as these characters that I have written down.
Funny story: I actually don't have a self insert rn, I turned my old self insert (also a punching bag) into an all new character because I couldn't give her up, but I wasn't happy with how she was before. She started as a Supernatural OC who was just a cool shapeshifter with witty one-liners and a super tragic past. She was also my favorite character's love interest. And now, she's nowhere near the character she once was, instead becoming her own character who makes choices I'd never make in my life
Thing is that I have an OC that has gone through so much character development over the years that at one point or another he has been most of these, often multiple at once. He's been an innocent child, a chosen one, the cool character, the murderer, the punching bag, the philosopher and lastly just tired. But most of all, he is me when I need him to be.
My main one is basically the same too. He started off as a semi-self insert into MHA, until I decided to make a story off of it, realized it was trash, completely scrapped it for 3 months and then just added him and a few others from that story into another, more promising one I was making. He then became the cool one, because I spent way too much energy trying to integrate him into this other world. Then his character arc led him to become a punching bag, a chosen one archetype depending on how you view his relationship to the antagonist, and after his arc was over I made him the philosopher to help other characters I made for the original world I integrated him into.
"The punching bag character receives the brunt of our emotional trauma" Me: I don't think I ever did that. No, never. My first dnd character who was bullied as a kid because she was seen as weird even though she tried her best to be nice to everyone: f*ck off
I’d like to add one- the witness. Generally a result of building the world before the plot or characters, this character exists merely as a vessel to tell the story of the world. Sort of like chosen one, but tends to be less of a hero type and more of a scholar. Usually unfamiliar with the world, and maybe they’re more of a backround character. Like when the POV character of a story is different than the protagonist? I have like, 5 of these, which may not seem like a lot, but i only have like 12 characters in total.
The punching bag: maggotpelt The philosopher: sand The cool character: shadowstar The innocent child: sky The chosen one: neon The murderer: halfblossom The self-insert: icepaw
Me. All of my OCs are forgotten by the world so they got isekai'd to a pure land of fantasy. One of my literally was forgotten, then got remembered, AND THEN FORGOTTEN AGAIN. Yeah, seems normal.
When it comes to OCs, I'll make just about any type of OC, not just the types that are discussed in this video. Though when it comes to self-inserts, I'm a bit narcissistic and will almost always write myself in as the main character. My self-inserts tend to be a mix of the chosen one, the cool character, the punching bag, and very occasionally; the philosopher. I suppose this idea just kind of stems from something that a lot of people think about; that it is fun to sometimes think of yourself as the main character of some awesome, amazing, epic story, or something along those lines and well, I'm no different. I absolutely love the idea of myself as the main character and I sometimes find it hard not to write a story where I'm either not the main character or just not in it at all. But overall, I really do love all my OCs, even if a lot of them are self-inserts, lol.
I’ve made So many OC’s in the past. Ended up using 3 of them as a base for an actual world for them to belong in, and a story is currently being set up.
My main oc is like a combination if all of them at once... She starts out as an innocent child, then becomes the punching bag, which leads to her becoming sort of a murderer, then moving on to her having a huge 'destiny' from which she evolves into the philosopher. She really was a bit of a self-insert to start off with and began as an awesome character desgin concept.
The only one that’s somewhat close to these is the innocent child, but then again I don’t give my OCs trauma, they’re all the kindest most loving people I could imagine, and they’re basically just parts of my personality reformed in different ways.
Wish this was out when I was in middle school because I was ashamed and embarrassed of my old oc/persona cuz she not only acted nothing like me, but also looked nothing like me either (as in ethnicity too) and my friend would always make fun of her name and basically everything about her, she was the “innocent child”. I ended up changing her from my main mascot on my channel and she is no longer my persona. But I was (and still am) so very attached to her so instead of scrapping her, she is the main character in my little story(s) that I have yet to make. Although I am happy with the oc/persona I have now (changed it to look like me more irl cuz of the bullying I got from my old one) your message at the end still would have meant a lot to me. Thank for making this!!😌
your ocs truly don't have to look like you. im very certain im not a cloud-white skinned 17 year old who has no hair, clothes or proper eyes because due to my laziness he has almost no design. get creative :D
Me, with the "Joker" oc, who used to have a hopeful view of the world, but with time, started getting surrounded by the negative side of the population, which made him turn against them, think they never deserved to thrive, and go into a rampage, murdering every single being he encountered: (I never read DC comics, nor watched any of the movies, including the Joker movie, to be fair. This OC just came from my deep thoughts that came to my mind at the average 1:00 AM Saturday.)
With a story I'm working on right now, all of the main characters are kind of self inserts, at least in concept. The protagonist is my anger and hatred of myself, his brother is my isolationism, his friend is the face I wear around people to try to make friends with them, and their guide is my apathy. Two characters are an exploration of my sexuality while yet another is my masochism. The parents of the protagonist are the mentors I wish I had in life, an another is my exploration of race and its significance in my life as someone from two cultures. It's a sandbox world for me mostly, but it's helpful for trying to figure myself out right now.
A lot of my old oc’s were like that but now I like making oc’s exaggerated versions of my friends or irl people. But it’s really nice having characters that are a reflection of you! It did help me with figuring some stuff out about myself too
A long time ago, when I was talking about my OCs, my sister told me that “All OC creators are cringey” and even young me viewed that statement as “Ah, so every single person on the planet is cringey. Got it.”
I love how my 'cool kid' character was just strutting around for the longest time like the chosen one but then she was like ... oh shit iM tHe ChOsEn ViLlAn aNd ShEs ThE cHoSeN hErO
My cool character is actually the choosen one and the guy who thought he was the choosen one ended up being the main villain, but was also a punching bag and thus allowed to live.
