All true. Human Resources is there to protect the company not the employee.

That's not true at all. They are hurting the company as well by hiring based on personality(tests,) coming up with useless meetings and they are usually responsible for the company field days that no one wants. By having an HR department, your workforce loses efficiency immediately 9/10 times.

100% correct. They protect management specifically. 30+ years experience working for Fortune 500 companies.

They dont protect the company at all. They protect themselves and ensure only their voice is heard by senior management. Thats why we have the issues we do. Management are tokd a HR story which is completley opposite from reality hence the disconect from reallity of many senior leaders and their staff

Great info! HR is never for the employee. Wish more people knew this.

I disagree with hr being "just like you and me". Although they usually don't make the final decision on hiring and firing, disciplinary outcomes etc. They play an integral role and dramatically influence the final decision on these kinds of things. Ive never met a Hr who had an attitude anything like a general employee. They are usually seemingly quite secretive and manipulative and never impartial. The worst ive seen of humankind has been within the Hr department.

“Here is what HR is not...” List everything HR does and thinks it does. The single greatest destroyer of employer/employee relationships is HR!

Employers should have to legally supply an unbiased person who can take a legitimate complaint from an employee who is being treated unfairly. Not right that many employers actually get away with bad treatment of others.

Keep your interactions with the HR department to a minimum and tell them nothing as they are very untrustworthy people.

As an HR, we need to show this video to employees. Even in the comments you see that people still don’t want to be realistic/unbiased about the function.

HR facilitated a boss and co workers ability to direct hostility at me and I filed a complaint. I called them out on it and want a write up vacated. I would think that it's their job to vacate it so I don't have a legal case. If they fire me for making a report in good faith they are violating their own code of conduct. If they fire me I wonder how they will like me picketing their site on the street corner handing out flyers about the whole situation.

What people fail to realize is that people are in fact a human resource, used, abused, and eventually discarded!!!

HR or the employer should rehabilitate the situation so they won't get sued so in a way they should help
@bmoshareholderappleshareho855
Human Resources is not a Police Department. HR does not play the role of judge and jury. They are just employees like everybody else. If there is a conflict between two employees, they are going to do what's right for the company, not the victim. HR usually tries to get rid of the victim, especially if he/she has low social status within the company. The only reason I went to HR is because my lawyer said I should. He said, "He should let HR know because the law is not going to do much for you." That means if you are being harassed at work, you only have two choices. You either put with it or resign.

@Pilot X Also, HR runs the greatest diet plans when they cut off your income and you can start the HR DIET PLAN. Boil up your old paycheck stubs with a little salt and pepper and make a tasty soup.

It amazes me that they often have a role in recruitment. Looking at CVs they have no clue about and judging them. Utterly hopeless.

Not sure about Gupta's view. In canada 66 percent of HR workers are female. Everything this guy is saying is actually correct. They don't have any power and just work for the company. Most human resource officers don't even follow company policy. Depending on your location, this job has good prospects.

I agree, and I am a female who works in human resources in an Oakville IT startup. I feel so immoral working at this place to be honest, but I need to make a living. :(

Is "harassment " really that bad? Diego, you're correct! Hopefully, those sinners can be replaced with robots . Regulations are for wimps. Keep up the fight, Diego, we can all sleep better now.
