You joke about Pokemon Z not being made because they couldn't think of lore, but seeing as Mega Flygon wasn't made because they couldn't think of a design, I'd believe it

The eagle who sits atop Yggdrasil is supposed to take flight only once; when Nidhogg gnaws through the roots of the world-tree, one of the signs that heralds the beginning of Ragnarok. Yveltal brings death when it flaps its wings. I think THAT has to be the connection, if we're going with the Norse inspiration.

"But the Z axis? Near or far? That doesn't make any sense." It can summon it's cells from NEAR OR FAR.

Another thing to add might be that Zygarde 50% form's ability reverses the abilities of the other 2, maintaining order

I like how these three's designs are so different to each other: Xerneas: I am a majestic dear with antlers that represent the world tree. A beautiful creature. Zygard: I represent the cells of beings and also bring order to life and death. Yvettal: I am a big Y.

Just throwing this out there: there is a Celtic god of life, fertility, animals, and wealth named Cernunnos, who is depicted with stag Horns. His name sound similar enough to to Xerneas that there might be some inspiration there too Edited for grammar

I was thinking it could be letters because of the order. Xerneas is life, Yveltal is death, the. Zygarde is rebirthgv, a cycle.

For what it's worth for Norse connections, Zygarde's cells, cores, and 50% form all only have one eye.

Perhaps Zygarde being "near or far" is in reference to how close it is to 100%

I remember in middle school I helped myself (and another student) remember the difference between the x and y axis on a plane by saying x is horizontal because xerneas is of the land, y is vertical because yveltal can fly, and origin means zero because in their dormant forms, xerneas is rooted as a tree (cant move anywhere) and yveltal is in an egg form and cant fly yet (also the egg looked kind of like a 0)

I remember when X & Y came out and Rabidluigi did his Top 5 for those games, he mentioned something about Zygarde being based on "The Watcher" (or something along those lines) a Lone Human Warrior, Hiding in a Cave, Destined to Watch as Ragnarok happened outside

Hey lockstin, I have a little theory about the dimension trio. You once made a video how giratina would represent gravity. What if the three respresent many things? Time Space Gravity Solid Liquid Gas Force Matter Antimatter Wave Particle Quantum object Solid liquid and gas are already an other theory and it matches their types. Force is always dependend on time and matter always needs space. Antimatter is confirmed by pokemon itself. The last ones are a bit lose snd also dependend on the other representations. Waves are made by an force, often accosiated with water and also depend on time (frequency). Particles are kind of equivalent to matter. Giratina has two forms, while quantum objects are a wave and a particle at the same time. Both also have kind of ghostly properties. Also notice how all the things giratina represents are potentially very destructive or seemingly defy the laws of physics. I think we can interpret many things in pokemon gamefreak didnt even intend. Please excuse my bad English.

There may be another thing these three legendaries are based off of. I forgot where I found this info, but as I loosely recall, they may also take inspiration from bodily systems. Xerneas = nerves, the central nervous system Yveltal = veins, the circulatory system Zygarde = muscles, the muscular system (I think?? I could be mistaken on that last one...)

For Zygarde and the directional axis. Maybe it's because Jormungand is going around the tree, so it's both in front and behind it ? I also like multiple origins for Pokémon

I know im late four years but in prophecy of ragnarok is a line about three roosters who will hatch from eggs in asgard jotunheim and helheim and when they will crow the ragnarok will start simirally to hatching of yveltal

Zygarde’s origins is the plot for Thor: Ragnarok

Man, I love your videos and your insight on one of my favorite series. But the costant camera motion in this vid nearly made sick. As a design choice, I applaud you for trying something different and expanding your style, but this might not have been the best choice.

My Point of View about the Trio. Xerneas: Teacher 'sPet Yveltal: Yasss Death Zygarde: Who designed this? It's so cool if it's DEAD

My logic behind spatial directions for the trio being X: left/ right horizontal, Y: up/down vertical, and Z being depth, like depth of field or depth into the screen, the word deep then can apply to underground.

Pokemon Z will be the finale game of the pokemon thats why they couldnt realease it yet.

Well, Hraesvelgr was also a giant flying superweapon, so there's that.

I'd like to see a possible connection between Zygard and Rayquaza.

I think Zygarde and Nidhogg/Jörmungandr could work as the Z axis if you think about the two snakes as being wrapped around Yggdrasil and the World. When you're wrapped around something you can be both on the near and the far side of that thing and from that you get the third dimension even in a two dimensional drawing.

Inwas thinking about creating a fourth member of the Aura Trio. This new member of the trio will be a purple and black aquatic creature that resembles the letter W and the W-axis, similar to how Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde all resemble the letters X, Y, and Z as well as their respective axes. It will represent chaos, the opposite of Zygarde representing order. This new Pokemon idea I have is called Walafgufrost, a Water/Ice type whose ability is Frigid Water Aura and learns two signature moves: Ocean Storm and Chaotic Freeze.

This explains the origin of all 3 legendaries.

I've always thought of the last composition of Disney's Fantasia 2 when thinking of Xerneas and Yveltal. The Fire Bird born from a cacoon in a volcano to cause destruction, death and take life by ravaging the lands. Afterwards, Nature or the godess of nature riding atop a stag brings life to the forest that was burned and turns the black wasteland left by the fires into a green haven once more. Don't know if maybe there was some inspiration there but it seemed to convenient.

Zygarde seems to resemble a 1 dimensional line, while Yveltal looks sort of flat and 2d, and Xerneas is the most 3d of the trio. At least to me.

something else to note. all three loki's children will "break free" of some form of restraint at the start of ragnarok. perhaps An ironic link to zygarde being restrained and controlled IN ORDER to start Lysander's apocalypse

6:40 It actually doesn't gossip with Nidhogg, it is trading insults. XD The one gossiping is their messenger, the squirrel Ratatosker who loves to pick up gossip from all the worlds on its way from top to bottom of the tree. Nidhogg actually have a relation to the four stags, as they are all slowly killing Ygdrasil, Nidhogg by chewing on its roots and the stags by eating the foliage (and being connected with the four dwarves that control the four winds, one would assume they are quite greedy). Ragenerok is said to start when they finally manage to kill the tree.

But they probably changed it to "Fire Mouse" to sound more appealing instead, due to the negative connotations associated with rats in general.
